Secondary market price is twice the price if not more.

How would we organize this kind of concerted effort? Like a group order? Everyone enters for all 3. Each person declares there wishlist DD or DDs. Then we divide up the extras that were won and not wanted by the winners.

It would be a huge operation, amazing if it was successful

But say the chances are 1/1,000. Then even if 50 of us enter, we might not win anything at all. Still, it is like the $50 million lottery. People enter anyway knowing chances are bad.

I've opened a thread :

viewtopic.php?f=36&t=7679&p=116182#p116182

Wow, do you think chances are that bad ? :/ If it's the case, we are sure not to have doll unclaimed at all I guess...

I'm still unsure I can enter for the three dolls depending of the timing. I can sure enter for anything through Volks USA as the dolls will be sent long after the actual Dolpa but I'm not in the US before September 24th (if the sending is a little before, it would be ok as I give my husband's work address in the US, but if it's long before we arrive, I'm concerned about the parcels safety :/). If it's really 15 days after the lottery, it would be a little off, but I'm looking for a solution. So Sakuya at least (and I don't want her if I win).

I'm completely ok to help organizing the whole thing this time and the next times (and I must add that I'm especially eager to help European people when I'll be in the US as I've had the horrible custom fees and therefore, can relate , feel free to contact me ^^).

I have some questions regarding this.

How can we be sure we won't have any unwanted dolls? I am sure I would not be able to afford to keep a doll I don't want if I ever win her, so how to be sure she would be sold in any case?

As I live in Europe, there is also the customs fees problem. If I win a doll for someone else, would this person accept to pay customs fees? or would I have to pay them myself? It can be a big difference.

No offence to anybody with my questions, but it can be important to know.

Yeah, I guess entering from Europe might not be the best, customs are really bad yep.

Well, the whole operation might not be realistic at all, but at least we would have studied the question .

It would be nice (and possibly unrealistic) to have a big pool of American "customs sheltered" participants who would provide most of the lottery entries. I don't know where else is free from customs taxes.

I miss the old days when everyone just entered lotteries once for a doll they really wanted, maybe twice (USA and international) if the doll was especially desirable to them because it's a favorite character etc .

From what I can gather in the past it was much, MUCH easier, but we all know why its now next to impossible...

I agree. It was so much easier. If you entered the lottery back then, you better have your money ready. I entered for Mashiro only instead of Mashiro and Mai because I could only afford one. Now I don't mind entering for 3 DDs expecting to get none.

I remember back in the days BEFORE there was a Volks usa. I also remember when dollfie dreams used to sell for LESS than their retail value internationally, because most bjd collectors did not like dollfie dreams and there was no where else to sell them as there were no DD communities back then. I got my first dd for £200 ish XD.

I can't remember what year it was, but its only really been since Danny Choo started posting about dollfie dreams that they became popular. Before Danny had dollfie dreams, I had posted my dolls on figure fm and hardly anyone commented, the people who did mostly commented on how weird or creepy they were, but since Danny Choo got them, boom, they got popular.

Now their popularity is constantly increasing, because of the community and exposure rather than just Danny's influence, but it never used to be like that.

I miss the old days XD

I agree. DDs were considered second class citizens. I got some great priced DDs back then. I also indulged in the hobby is pretty much total isolation. I looked at a few other DDs on Flickr or other random places but I never talked to anyone. It has been a huge change to talk to people. I was very comfortable in isolation. A part of me thinks that I can reclaim the old days if I go back to my old isolated lifestyle but that won't happen. The hobby has changed. I have made some great friends though by talking to others about DDs.

Dang - I wish I had known about Dollfies way back then! Oh well. My luck with the lottery hasn't been good so far, but I plan on entering again for Sakuya. Those twin tails are just too tempting!

DDs have gotten much nicer post-Danny as well so he might have just kickstarted it. I think it would still have grown in quality and demand steadily regardless.

I think Its not so much that they were cheaper, its that the exchange rate was (unbelievably) better...

I may be wrong but they did used to go for almost the same? From what I saw years ago on certain sites?

Well, I found out about DD's in 2003 and I didn't find out about volksUSA until 2011.

I hope Chihaya and Yukiho are as easy to win as Miki and Haruka were. Haruka stayed at her default price even at the aftermarket, so I'm slightly hopeful. I don't mind paying 100-200$ more on the aftermarket, but I'd rather avoid it.

I think VolksUSA has been open since at least 2005... it's mentioned in DoA threads back then, and they still have a page up for DD Femi who was a 2005 release.

2005 sounds right. I got Cheryl (released at the same time as Femi for HTD Nagoya 2) off the Volks USA site.

2001-2 is around when I first learned about Volks and bjd. I think there was one US dealer for Volks at the time.

The DDs were much cheaper then, an SD would run you 6-700 with shipping and fees and what not where a DD was 2-300. I think it was only Candy and Mirai back then. Also as Mitsuki said they were second class citizens. I think bjd was more doll collector oriented then, so the anime aesthetic was undesirable.

I think the popularity not only came from Danny Choo, but anime as a whole started gaining popularity, and more merchandise was easily available. So more people would be interested in getting a DD I think.

Also the release of popular characters ups the exposure for someone who may be interested in those games, or anime and may have stumbled upon DD that way.

First knowing Volks when I was hooked up with Rozen Maiden years ago(around 2007 or 2008) when I was searching for it's the merchandise, I find out Volks made SD version of them.

the search engine gave me volksusa older version link like this http://www.volksusa.com/dolpa18suigintou.html seems it was around dollpa 18

For DD, not really sure I think when people start talking about them in blogs and forums and of course most of them mention and linking about Mr Dannychoo, I am not huge follower so I am not really sure but true seems outside japan he's the one who make DD very famous and For me I just start take interested when seeing DD Touhou Project

Please, could someone confirm me that Chihaya and Yukiho are not limited to Japan and will be available at the after event through a Volks International Lottery ? I have a friend asking me if he needs an address in Japan to enter the lottery and I would like to be sure what to answer .

Thanks .

We assume the iM@S girls 1) will not come to VolksUSA, and 2) will come to Volks International.

There is no way to confirm for 100% certain until the middle of August when Volks puts up the official after-event overseas lottery information. So, best guess, no address in Japan needed. Still a guess.

Volks USA has listed the dolls they will offer lotteries for. Neither Yukiho or Chihaya will be available, as expected. Dollar price for Sakuya and Sorbet haven't been listed yet.
