Top Tier Limited Dollfies, do you want to see 2nd versions?

I'm talking about the the most sought after. and price point. meaning its priced at hellbent aftermarket prices while everyone wants them, then Volks decided to release a 2nd version what sculpts could you picture with that possibility?

 

I could see a Sasara and a Tamaki since I always see a different version on them on figmas, this is the only reason stopping me purchasing a Sasara, though it would be crazy and feel sorry for the people who bought them for the aftermarket price if it does get a release.

 

While Yuki Morikawa is very unlikely, and I hope she stays like that, she's the only doll that still has the sculpt to put any wig on like its nothing that it will look "good" regrdless. as well as backed by Danny. I think she's in for the long run as well with her counterpart. Same goes for Rin and Lily, hopefully not another Lily Ver.2 for me but who knows were talking about sabers

 

What do you guys think, would you guys be comfortable having a version 2 of your priced doll?

I think Sasara and Tamaki are both a possibility, as they re-released Lucy so soon afterward. Toheart is still very prevalent, where as you pointed out the White Album girls are not. It's more the sculpt of Yuki itself. I think any Type Moon re-releases ,and Akihabara girls also seem possible too.

 

I would VERY much like to see Beatrice re-released but I do not see that happening... -_-

 

I think the only real downside to re-releasing girls is if you paid a steep aftermarket price for yours, and then the doll became available soon after.

I wouldn't mind seeing some re-released. Yuki seems unlikely but there could be new Rin or Illya, especially with the recent magical girl spinoff of that series. I'd love to get a valkyrie Sasara, I have the nendoroid and she's super cute :3

The two main reasons why people would be upset about a re-release are value and rarity. Some people may have searched and spent a lot of money on those rare/high-value girls. While I feel it's unfair for those that spent a good amount of time and money, I honestly wouldn't mind re-releases of my high-valued girls.

 

In fact, I'd love twin Kudos and Yukis but I can't afford it! If they had a re-release of these girls, I think it'd be very fun. Having fun is the point of having a hobby anyways. I may have already spent over $1,000 on each of them but what's the harm in getting twins for a decent price? I don't buy dolls to resell them so I don't mind at all.

 

I can't deny it'd be a good chance to grab older DD models too if they were to re-release them. It'd be nice to get a decently priced Rin!

As long as it's a "redo" with new costumes and such, I don't think it will impact the prices of the existing models that badly. Buyers will be mad at secondhand prices no matter what Volks does. Buying secondhand is always a risk, which is why it is not an "investment".

 

Buy art because you love it. If it happens to make money it's a nice bonus, but that shouldn't be the expectation.

I would like for Volks to re release dolls.

 

I know some people covet the value and rarity of their dolls and shun the idea of re releasing because it makes their delicate rare snowflake less unique but me, I'm the type of person who would like for everyone to have a chance at getting what makes them happy.

 

Due to the Saber Alter re release, I was finally able to obtain my grail doll and I can't tell you how glad I was of that fact. It's also a great opportunity to bring older dolls to a newer audience with improved features (different bodies, soft headcaps and the like)

 

As others have said, as long as their is some distinguishing differences between releases, it's totally fine by me and shouldn't hurt the first release too much. I think based on Volks recent re releases (Saber Alter, Moe, Natsuki, Lucy, Mariko and now Sakuya, any popular character DD with a different outfit, wig or faceup option now has a good potential to be re released down the line.

 

If they do a Melty re release I'm in so much trouble though as I'd love Melty twins :3

My most expensive girl (original Saber) has been rereleased in a second version already (Extra). I didn't have an issue with it and wouldn't have an issue with any other re-releases.

 

As for who I would want:

- Ilya would be tempting. And I would think that she's a possibility for a re-release candidate with Fate's continuing presence and the Ilya spin-off anime.

- Kanu would also be tempting. I don't think she'll get a re-release, though.

Seconded. Kaleido Ruby re-release in all her glory!!!! Also, I have dreams of a tan skin Akira.

I can see the fate/to heart series being re-release franchises in the future. Lets start cloning those snowflakes

 

I am absolutely for more re-releases.

This stuff about owners who spent more. I don't understand feeling sorry for them if a re-release hits. That person chose the worth of that model and decided they wanted her in their home. They chose to pay that price to have her. In their eyes that was worth the money. Even if a re-release hits, those owners still got to enjoy that particular model for quite awhile before everyone else. Nobody twisted their arm to buy at that price. If it was chosen as monetary investment, well theres the problem.

 

I would love to own Rin one day like many others, but that is only happening if there is a re-release and I win at retail. Otherwise I will wait till another sculpt catches my fancy.

I think it would be good if they re-made the sculpt and face up so that its different or even slightly different with new clothes so that the old ones can remain still valuable n people can still get the new girl xD but my opinions dont matter

This I agree too. A Valkyrie Sasara would be a must get for me. Rin would be too as well as a Yuki. I would so got for those girls.

This already exists, thanks to Cherry Milk, based on the one in the Hollow Ataraxia VN. I have the Kaleido Ruby outfit as well as a separate dealer-made Kaleidostick. Ginger Tea already made a Prisma Illya outfit also, but the goofuses made it for DDS not MDD, so..... never bought an Illya to wear it. Maybe Illya is older in the new anime? (I haven't seen it yet). But in any case, an official Volks catgirl Rin can never be a bad thing. I'd love to see that, and since Fate is still relevant even today it has the chance of happening.

 

Regarding v2s, well, with the exception of Sakuya:Crimson which we don't know for sure, every one of the other re-releases had a different skin-tone and/or a different face-up and/or a different head size from the first version. So they haven't been re-releases at all, but rather different dolls. Thus, you don't see the market value of the old dolls dropping much, since there's not actually new stock on the market.

 

I don't particularly "want" re-releases of old girls necessarily in order to buy them myself.. but I sure wouldn't mind if Volks decided to make them anyway!

I thought Saber Alter & Saber Alter 2nd had the same face-up (or, at least, Volks attempted to give them the same face-up), just an outfit change? Is there a head size difference between the two? I thought only older, original Saber had the smaller head.

Alter II has noticeably-heavier blushing than Alter I does, and also has a larger head. The eye makeup and eyebrows were kept the same so at first glance the two heads look very similar, but if you compare photos side by side you should see the difference.

 

Head size is one of the unannounced mods that Volks has done to the Dollfie Dream line over time I think, and it isn't specific to the Sabers. Original Saber, Alter I, Rin, and other dolls originally released on DDII bodies all have smaller heads than the DDIII-based dolls of today. It didn't start with DDIII's first dolls (Izayoi Sakuya is still small-size), but somewhere along the way Volks decided to make a change.

 

The change is most noticeable on the Sabers since you have the exact same mold (#25) to compare old versions and new ones directly. So why'd Volks do that? I think it's to give more differentiation between DD and DD Sister dolls. Today DDIII-based dolls have bigger heads and DDS-based dolls have smaller heads (that are the same size as the old DDII dolls mentioned earlier). If you look at Aoko Aozaki and Alice Kuonji side by side, it will be apparent what I mean. Oh, and I use those two as an easy example, but it seems to be true pretty consistently throughout the line.

 

If a new version of Rin Tohsaka were to come out, I'd fully expect her to have a bigger head than the 2009 version of Rin for instance.

So far I've been lucky in that the girls in my wishlist are for the most part not true "top tier", so rereleases of characters like Sasara or Yuki M. would barely even peg my radar. A couple years ago I would have said Saber Alter would potentially belong on that list, but she's already been rereleased, and I actually like her second version outfit better.

 

I guess a potential exception would be Fate T. Harlaown, though she's not quite in the price range Sasara and co. command, especially when you consider the original retail for her elaborate fullset. Still, her I'd have to snap up if they re-released her--Nanoha demands it, lol! Still, if they did that, she'd probably be in her Sonic Form barrier jacket, which I've never been too wild about, so would have to track down her original release's gear since that's my favorite version of her outfit. That would likely be quite a quest.

I would like to see young Nanoha, the movie 2nd version. More Sabers would be fine too. You know Saber Lily, in a different outfit? Still I suppose there are too many Sabers....

With how popular Saber is, maybe they should just make her available blank on a regular basis and be done with it! Actually, if they did that, I'd probably be more than a little tempted to re-shell Agatha using that head, if it wasn't too competitive to get it retail.

As unlikely as it is, I would love to see a re release of Noumi Kudryavka or just any MDD in particular. I would also like a re release of any Saber. I joined the hobby too late so I never got the chance to buy them for their retail price.

I second that! Sasara has always been my unicorn, but I would be a little sad about any changes to wig/faceup/outfit, as I love love love her combo. If they had better faceups though? Awesome.

 

A change in hard head caps would be nice, too!

As for the rerelease issue, I don't think it would devalue the originals very much because there is always something different between issues. If something was rereleased now, I imagine it would have the DDIII body. And I always thought the second Saber Alter release was done because of unexpected demand, and the releases were so close together I didn't think there was a devaluing issue.

 

As several people have mentioned, don't be in the hobby solely for the investment. If you really want it, you spend what you have to when you can, to be able to get a rare DD. I don't think of any doll as unattainable and never to be made again, unless the manufacturing company actually closes. And sometimes not even then!

The yellowing that she goes through must be a bit of a disappointment for Nia lovers so a rerelease would give them a chance to get a girl that they love that doesn't yellow!

 

I'd like Yoko's fullset for a decent price. I like everything about her, her sculpt, eyes, wig, nipple-less body (I actually wish this was a standard option. Busts without nipples), etc. When I first got into the hobby she popped up everywhere, now I can hardly find her.

 

I'd like for Tamaki, Rin and Airi to be rereleased too. Volks has come so far with faceups I think that an Airi with a new default faceup would look beautiful. Since Queen's Blade often does P2 color versions of their characters they could easily do the Blonde Airi with an outfit that isn't a stain monster. haha.

I second a Nia and Yoko rerelease! I got in to DDs riiight after the whole thing for them was over, around the same time I was watching the anime. :C Nia is one of my top 3 grails, but Yoko would be great, too.
