Yukamina Posted July 17, 2013 I was wondering about what Volks uses to do DD face-ups. They look air-brushed with paint, but what are they sealed with, does anyone know? I'm starting to wonder if they are sealed at all, since it seems you can remove parts of a face-up without there being any traces of sealant layers (I can't remove part of a home done face-up without the sealant turning white, it's all or nothing) My Etsy Shop ~~~ My DeviantArt
mitsuki Posted July 17, 2013 There isn't a seal. You can remove parts of the faceup without there being a difference in seal/coating. The parts that aren't painted are just plain vinyl. Because the faceups aren't sealed and the new vinyl is so soft, you can rub the paint off from the newer limited heads. It is harder to remove faceups on the older heads. I took off some of the eyelash paint on a Nanami head by accident just by using my finger and a towel to push the animetic eye in to dislodge it from the socket. It seemed to smudge off pretty easily.

Yukamina Posted July 18, 2013 Good to know! I should have asked this before I altered my girl's face up I removed her lipstick very carefully and reblushed her lips. But I would have redid her cheek blush too if I knew there was really no sealant to worry about. My Etsy Shop ~~~ My DeviantArt
Innocentsake Posted July 18, 2013 This is new information to me I had always assumed there was some sort of sealant on the face-up. I'm already careful with my girls, but now I'll be extra careful

But only to be sure, you need to sealent her befor you reblush her, because most of the colors go in the vinyl?!? Volks dont seal the finished faceup maybe, but they seal the head befor they paint on it. (i think so?!?!) Or they use special colors, but i am not 100% sure. https://www.facebook.com/fantasydolls?ref=hl ☆〜(ゝ。∂) ♥ Dollfie Dream Faceups ~ ☆

baxterbrat Posted July 18, 2013 I had no clue they didn't seal the faceups That kind of sucks, well at least there are customizers out there (and all the more reason for me to learn myself!)

It is pretty hard to take the eyelash paint off older heads, so I wasn't expecting the new heads to be so easy to smudge. I have some of Volks' acrylic paints so I was able to paint the smudged off part back on. I think the vinyl is quite different on the new heads.

Nekopon Posted July 18, 2013 This is news to me! I should go and seal my girls up... or find a professional to do it so it's not all shiny.

gaiaswill Posted July 20, 2013 they be cutting cost recently. just look at body parts. they be alot thinner compared to early dd2/dd3 Since it keeps the dolls light and lets Volks keep charging the same price, I am okay with this.
