leitan Posted July 24, 2013 yes, i actually purchased some first wave MH a few years ago and (foolishly?) wiped and abused them to practice for doing face ups on DD/BJD... lately i've been practicing doing MH repaint for the sake of repainting the doll itself though. no pics to share yet, but i spent the majority of my afternoon (3-4 hours?) sketching out the design, cleaning, sanding, sealing, painting, and all the other tedium... i like how it's going so far; maybe not this one but as soon as i paint one i'm "happy with" i'll definitely post it. also, FWIW, i love looking at other people's repaints. yours looks great so far Anouc! what materials are you using to repaint? for all dolls (MH/BJD/DD), i fairly recently find i prefer using watercolor pencil w/ light or small amounts of acrylic paint and pastels, to a full acrylic face-up now. i don't have a problem with drawing faces but i do have severe problem with control of shaking hands and paint-thickness, so pencils to some extent are helpful~
Calli Posted August 20, 2013 Anouc, your repaint looks awesome! I just started repainting MH dolls myself. My friend has a ton of the CAM dolls and let me practice on one. It's really fun, and a lot easier than I'd expected. I'm not great by any means, but my first MH turned out far better than my first resin face up! I agree, leitan. I also prefer using watercolor pencils. I use a lot of pastels also, but really only use acrylics for the eyes. It just seems easier, and the end result is nicer. taconacho Posted August 21, 2013 Pretty! Are you painting her to look like a fawn? She looks so beautiful! Nefera has such a nice sculpt, I always love seeing what people paint her like!
leitan Posted August 22, 2013 was just browsing Etsy because i can't sleep and i came across this MH repaint - thought it might interest Anouc or anyone else who likes this style, since it seems to have a similar theme~ it's very pretty, can only hope to be good enough at painting one day to achieve something like this! it's being sold by artist Erin Garey - http://www.etsy.com/listing/157240917/monster-high-custom-repaint-faun-ooak - more pics on her page if you guys are curious.
