macloud Posted August 3, 2013 (edited) This had been at the back of my mind for a while but until yesterday when i saw figure.fm member Ms. Geek's post of her own wheel bound daughter "sarge" that made me make this post. while there aren't any officially made wheelchairs [the one in this post was from the American doll company mytwinn.com] have any forumites here ever consider creating a daughter who was wheelchair bound? maybe a beloved DD whose back was damaged and you didn't want to part with? Indeed to expand on this have you ever considered writing in a real life defect of a dolls body into its character background? Katiazza Posted August 3, 2013 I got my Nova (DD Nia) a little while ago and she has a yellowed leg. I've been considering writing it into her background story but I haven't decided yet or came up with an idea why she would have a yellow leg So I guess I can say I've considered it but haven't decided for sure. *Yuzu* DDS Yaya *Yuuko* DDIII Aozaki Aoko *Sakura* DDII Uryuu Sakuno

Ravendruid Posted August 3, 2013 Having dealt with a severe knee injury, and with my father having major knee issues for as long as I've known him, I've been extremely tempted to incorporate a significant limp into the character of one of the girls in my head. I've also been batting around for quite a while the idea of a girl with a missing (or possibly prosthetic) arm. It would probably be some time before I'd get around to either of them, but they've been nagging at the back of my mind for a few months, now. macloud Posted August 3, 2013 If you wanted to take the drama route it could be a result of a burn injury. Or you could take the less dramatic route and say its a birthmark (try googling "port wine stain").
Katiazza Posted August 3, 2013 how about hot tea spillage I fund this very funny but I don't think I could keep it up for the long term If you wanted to take the drama route it could be a result of a burn injury.Or you could take the less dramatic route and say its a birthmark (try googling "port wine stain"). I think a burn or injury scar is a bit too dramatic for me but a birth mark is a great idea! I think she will love having her birth mark because it makes her unique from all the other girls *Yuzu* DDS Yaya *Yuuko* DDIII Aozaki Aoko *Sakura* DDII Uryuu Sakuno
aquilla429 Posted August 3, 2013 I was plotting a girl with a permanent eye patch a while ago, I made they patch and everything but then there were a few anime's with eye patch girl characters so I abandoned the idea. I wanted her to be sort of unique, I didn't just want people to think I was just doing it as a fad. puxlavoix Posted August 3, 2013 I dont see it as being -less perfect- since all DD´s are beautiful and perfect for their parents cause they were created to be like that. Instead of less perfect id call it "less DD" To me, everybody's girls are all about joy and happiness and "DD real life problems", even when they get injured from time to time, they know dad/mom will fix it eventually, so it really doesn't get to them But I couldn't bare to see any of my girls ill or injured for life by integrating it into their joyful little characters. If any of them got badly i Isnt that what DD parents are supposed to do? Kinda see it with regular bjds, but DD? Not my cup of tea

Roxy, one of my non-DDs, wears an eye patch a lot of the time to cover up a mechanical eye that she received after an event in her past caused her to lose an eye. http://i4.photobucket.com/albums/y128/kymaera/roxy_dual_zps3f006fea.jpg
katnaper Posted August 4, 2013 Hmmm, aside from a custom Claire from Claymore with the arm she received from Irene, I never really thought about making a DD character with a background like you mentioned. Her and this might be somewhat OT but I once thought Ed from Full Metal Alchemist would be awesome to make with his arm and leg and all. We have our own BLOG. SisterKyoya Posted August 4, 2013 For quite a long time I have been thinking about an MDD girl with a prosthetic leg. She is based on one of my Steampunk/Victorian characters who just happened to have a missing limb and replaced it with a very ornate lace-like metal sculpted leg. If I ever get around to doing her (I really hope so) her leg will have to be 3D modeled and printed and I'm super excited about that. If I can get it worked out it will be pretty amazing. Just for who she is, her clothes are styled to show off her leg rather than hide it. The other reason for doing this is to have a way to finally repair Tamayuki's current body. Because of the design issues his ankles have been busted for about a year now and can't stand on his own. I really see no need in wasting the rest of the body by merely throwing it out (in fact once he gets an MDD III Bree will get the body before it's passed on to my handicapped girl.) This way I can repair the body and have it be a solid body again, and end up with a very one of a kind girl in the process. Personally I really like my DD kids to have flaws. I would rather love them then have them be like a pristine articulated figurine in a cabinet. I purposely add things into their personality so they aren't perfect. My Ringo hasn't been on the forums hardly at all, but I decided to 'give' her my sun allergy and heat intolerance as part of who she is because it also helps me learn to deal with it. I know that these kind of flaws are different from physical ones, but for me the same thinking is why I often have bought 2nd hand girls. Sure they can have minor stains (a fact of DD life) and imperfect joints sometimes, but it just adds to who they are. Two black marks ended up on my husband's Yuriko, but we just joke that she decided that she wanted a tattoo. That doesn't stop me from trying to remove it, but it's also not the end of the world either. ~Sister Kyoya Forum Blog: Badger Pocket Tales (Family story from the beginning) | { Old Family story reboot: Start Here! } Follow me on Twitter, Flickr & Instagram
Misheru Posted August 4, 2013 One of my first DDs spine broke and despite most of the conventional fixes, it never held. My husband took it apart and used a screw and some other bits to put it back together. Now she doesn't stand as well and has to be handled more carefully, but since I also have screws in my spine and I have to be careful...it worked out just fine. It makes her the most special. Certainly not less perfect. I have a couple of girls with badly stained bodies (I bought them this way). They either get the gothy fashions that no one else will dare to wear or they get the cool lace bodysuits. I have girls with special repairs here and there and we make it work. Some wear boots because their ankles aren't stable. Some always sit pretty because they don't stand well. Some have beautymarks and birthmarks. A friend once said that a dolly is never truly yours until she gets her first stain. Perfection, like beauty, is in the eye of the beholder. ~ ❥ Misheru...the *M* in H&M House of Vinyl ❥ ~ ℒℴѵℯ❤ ( ͒ ु•·̫• ू ͒) ˚₊✩‧ All your dolliehs are belong to us! ✩‧₊˚ ( ͒ ु•·̫• ू ͒)
Jezrah Posted August 4, 2013 Ah, Sister Kyoya reminded me that I do have a girl with a sun problem like her Ringo. One of my psychic twins, Selena, represents the moon to her sister's sun. So she doesn't tolerate direct sun well, although she can go out under a parasol if she's careful. I want to do more stories with the twins, but although they've been here since last fall I've still been working out their appearance and character detail. Also, you can really only take two or more dolls for a shoot and then straight home. Thus they don't get to go on trips with me as much as some of the others who don't refuse to never be alone. I follow a dolly blog of a DoA user that has a blind character. She does awesome pics of him exploring using touch, and he even has a little white cane. Her blog is from his point of view, as he lives life blind and has a "normal" family (normal in quotes since his wife is a blue alien ). I really like it. They either get the gothy fashions that no one else will dare to wear or they get the cool lace bodysuits. Ooh, lace bodysuits would be awesome! I find the regular bodysuits to be bulky and unattractive, and the lace ones can cover up existing stains stylishly while not being bulky under other clothes. And if the body is stained already, the suits can be any color! I imagine that commercial synthetic stretch lace won't stain anyway, if it's well prewashed. Brilliant idea! Yuan Posted August 7, 2013 I have less-than-perfect characters but none of them are on my list to be made into dolls yet. Mostly because they wouldn't work in the medium as well as the other girl I'm planning currently (although her design was made with possible Dollfie-ization in mind)
Sekitan no Hashira Posted August 7, 2013 (edited) One of my characters doesn't have the use of her right leg due to an unhurt accident (what were you thinking, autocorrect?) that happened when she was younger, so she uses crutches. I've never considered making her into a doll, but I'm starting to think about it now… Edited August 11, 2013 by Guest Specializing in the art of being different, which is a polite way of saying "weird." I wanted her to be sort of unique, I didn't just want people to think I was just doing it as a fad. I don't think that's a very good reason to not to do it. Just pointing out, but eye patches are pretty damn popular. I get it we had Another and Chuunibyou within a rather short period of time. (Maybe a couple seasons difference?) But honestly they are ALWAYS around. I say screw it and what people think. I've got two characters who can wear eye patches (one permanently, the other on occasion). No shame in my love for the eye patch. It's a great accessory whether you need it or not. Just a shame to deny yourself the eye patch. >:

Linda S. galatia9 Thanks, Linda. I have a couple of bodies that I bought secondhand that were badly stained (one Obitsu and one DD) and I got a couple of fine mesh lace body suits from CoolCat - one is black (for the body that was most stained) and one is white. Now the girls can wear anything and look like they have on cute lace tees and tights on under their fashions. I have another girl that had badly stained legs and she wears black mesh pointe tights all the time. She can then wear anything and the stains never show through. It just makes it work. ^^ ~ ❥ Misheru...the *M* in H&M House of Vinyl ❥ ~ ℒℴѵℯ❤ ( ͒ ु•·̫• ू ͒) ˚₊✩‧ All your dolliehs are belong to us! ✩‧₊˚ ( ͒ ु•·̫• ू ͒)
NekoSan22 Posted August 8, 2013 When I get my mdd, I'm considering having her have a temporary bandage to cover up both eyes, due to the fact that she'll be useless for a while. WoundedNight64 Posted August 9, 2013 I've been thinking about making a blind girl for some time, though her back story won't include a traumatic accident. SisterKyoya Posted August 11, 2013 I love Katawa Shojuo! I think that an 06 would be perfect for Lilly (the 4th pic looks almost exactly like your reference pic with just a hair and eye change.) An 03 really would not suit Lilly at all. In fact the 03 is totally ideal for Rin! She is my favorite out of the game by a long shot because I can really identify with her. It would really be great fun to make an MDD with very little arms, plus I think she's totally adorable. I could totally see her hanging out with Tamayuki and he's not phased by her (or her weirdness) at all. I seriously think I'm addicted to 03 heads... Another one who would be loads of fun to do (although she isn't handicapped) is Misha when she still had her pink cotton candy colored drills. She is almost just made for the 04 head. And then there is Hanako who is really adorably shy. Honestly any of the girls from Katawa Shojuo would make wonderful DD, although Yuriko would have to keep Emi from driving me crazy. And for me I'd also have to toss in Kenji. What is there not to love about a non-magical, insane, Harry Potter conspiracy theorist who is convinced that feminists are talking over the world? I could so totally see him making a bomb shelter in the bottom of our closet after following one of my boys home. He and Eddie would be hilarious because Kenji would rant on and Eddie is just clueless. Dang it, I can't stop laughing. Plus Kenji and Rin would be fun too since she is so apathetic a lot of the time and he thinks she's a boy because she wears a boy's uniform. I'd definitely say that being legally blind as badly as Kenji could be considered an imperfection because for me that doesn't only apply to the physical appearance. Now I have to go add more entries to my DD wishlist... ~Sister Kyoya Forum Blog: Badger Pocket Tales (Family story from the beginning) | { Old Family story reboot: Start Here! } Follow me on Twitter, Flickr & Instagram
