crappyshappyshaw Posted August 17, 2013 Hi! I'm super duper new to making faceups on vinyl dolls, and my DD will be my first! I finished blushing her, sealing her, and am now starting a sketch of where I want things to go with my watercolor pencils, but I my Faber-Castell pencils are coming out so...dull?? It feels like I'm scraping right into the vinyl, even though I sprayed it a ton of times with MSC. Does it aways feel like that? Am I doing something wrong? I'm practicing some on the headcap (sprayed as well), and it's just so...weak. Should I be pressing harder, or...what? I apologize if there's a similar thread. ^^; I didn't see any like this, but if there is, just delete/merge.
Yukamina Posted August 17, 2013 Did you spray too much maybe? Too much spray at once will make a slick surface that pastels and pencils won't cling to. A light, even coat of sealant will have some 'tooth' for the pigment to hold onto. My Etsy Shop ~~~ My DeviantArt
jadepixel Posted August 17, 2013 I found some brands of watercolor pencil just don't draw well on DD heads. Prismacolor are pretty reliable, though. jadepixel doll lab jadepixel eye shop
aquilla429 Posted August 17, 2013 I use Faver Castell watercolour pencils to draw onto my DD heads and have never had any issue, but I'm usually doing after a light coat of sealant. Since you say you sprayed MSC several times, maybe that is where your issue lies? crappyshappyshaw Posted August 18, 2013 Thanks for your replies! I think I may have found out my problem. XD While I did spray many times, I sprayed lightly between intervals to build some tooth, but I suppose I missed some spots (such as the inner eye...well...things???). I was able to do the light sketching on the parts I could. I'll seal that later and get back to you guys on it!
