dragonbot3 Posted August 21, 2013 Hi, i am pretty new to the world of DD, just got my first DD a month ago. In the past week, i was trying to remove the stain by using the Oxy & heat lamp method. The treatment went pretty well, however, i forgot to turn off the lamp today. I think the heat lamp was remained on for like more than 8 hours, and later i found out the vinyl on that area becomes a little bit wrinkled and feels rough. I tried to take a picture of the area, but can't really tell any difference on the picture. The area looks pretty much exactly same as the other area but i can see the lines more clearly and actually feel the lines. I feel really depressed right now , but i want to have a idea what is going on, is it cause of the heat? is it repairable? and does anyone experienced similar case before? Really appreciate the helps, thanks in advance ~
Marq V Posted August 21, 2013 I'm really sorry to hear about your problem. I can understand how you feel depressed when you just got your *first DD I have not come across this particular problem yet, but I know that with enough heat and/or time under heat vinyl can warp. I'm old enough to remember when we were told not to keep our LP's near a furnace or in a car for too long). As to it being repairable I can't say for sure but, I don't think it come be un-warped. However, I have to say I don't know for sure. Is the problem on the head or body? If on the body then it is possible to replace the body part. Still, if it's not that visible you may just want to leave it alone, although, again, I can understand your frustration. A few months ago I purchased (2) used Dollfies' from someone on eBay. They didn't say it in the listing, but both dolls have rough areas around their knees. It appears they were stained there and the previous owner used a Magic Eraser to clean the areas and scrubbed a bit too hard. It really isn't that noticeable even when they wear clothes with the knees exposed and it's not worth it for me to replace those parts (again, that's just me). I hope I have been of some help to you. *As a quick side note: I truly can relate because when I got my first, brand new Dollfie (Yoko) I put a black wig on her for maybe (2) days. This is a wig I have had on other resin dolls for days on end. Even though it never stained the resin it stained on Yoko. I haven't cleaned her head yet and with her original wig on, of course you can't see it. Needless to say I was not happy with myself Galfriends at home: DD: Yoko, Yui, & Briana Rei Resin: Tatiana, Leda, Miyoi, Tana,... & Gena<
Amber Posted August 21, 2013 Like Marq V said, depending on what part it is on, you should probably be able to replace the specific part. It would mainly depend on how much it bothers you and if you think it'd be worth a replacement. Personally, if it is not extremely visible and if the appearance doesn't bother you (besides the fact you did it on accident) I would say just leave it alone. Over time I noticed that my Ms. Mariko (she is white skin) has a few random marks on her... I have no clue how they got there because I always keep her in light colored clothing, and she is locked in a cabinet where no one handles her except me. At first I was devastated and thought it was my fault, but the marks are all in places where you can't really see it. I think something that just has to be accepted with DD is that if you are going to handle them or put them in outfits with color, or use dark wigs, that they might stain or have weird incidents like what happened to you. It's just part of having them, and yeah it really sucks, but a lot of the time it can be fixed or reduced or replaced. I would say don't beat yourself up too much about it, it's alright and don't blame yourself. Accidents happen and it's okay. I'm sure it's not that bad since you can't capture it in a photograph. It might just feel worse because it was your first DD. Maybe someone else might have a fix for you on the forums and then she will be alright!

Aronzo96 Posted September 22, 2013 I'm very much a noob with DDs, but don't people use sandpaper when they modify their girls' heads? Is it possible to sand the vinyl without completely wrecking the surface?
shinegamix Posted September 22, 2013 if you use sandpaper you will mess up the face/finish making my triumphant return
jadepixel Posted September 23, 2013 I saw something similar on one of my dolls feet- not sure why it only happened to her, but she was an older DD and vinyl degrades over time. I think you could try sandpaper on the rough areas if they aren't on the face. Keep in mind, it won't be perfectly smooth unless you sand down to the level of the lowest cracks/pits, but you could even it out without removing too much material. You'd start with low number paper (like 200) and work up to high numbers (600). Hobby shops sell variety packs of wet/dry sandpaper perfect for this. If the head is damaged, and the face-up was sealed, then sanding isn't recommended unless you want to redo the face-up. jadepixel doll lab jadepixel eye shop
