Do you keep a tally of what you have spent on this hobby?

I track all my expenses from year to year, but as far as *total* spent, I'm not sure. Because I've been in the hobby (at least the resin side) for a number of years! I could go back and figure it up, but yeah, it would be a bit depressing!

Great point!! You just made me feel way better...especially with this being Superbowl weekend...which we don't really care about or watch, but know is very, very expensive for those who do!! Thanks for the confirmation/reassurance about spending money on something we get so much joy out of doing!!

I second the motion. I actually have a list of how much each doll has cost me, sans KOS and MOMO but I don't really like dwelling on it. I haven't even factored in the wigs, clothes... props....... tools........ *thinks about what sports fans spend to perk up*

No... considering DD, BJDs, Pullips and my addiction to cute dolly clothes, as well as pickiness and constant wig/eye change, I really rather not to know about how much I spent on all of this.

But hey, money is to be spent, one way or another. Some drink/smoke/party, I roll the doll way.

Kinda yes and kinda no... I don't have the amount written down, but I am aware of how much I've spent. I'm currently at 8 girls soon to have a 9th, many of them have gone through 3 or more outfits.... Its adds up over the years...and a couple of my girls have expensive tastes....

No way, no how, no chance of us keeping track of what we spend! If I did that, I would probably freak out at the total and then our poor girls would have to go naked or something!!!

I enjoy the challenge of designing and making different outfits because it gives me a break from my job and my husband enjoys designing/making wooden furniture-type things that fit the DD size. We work together at this stuff and have a lot of fun with it -- much discussion and lots of laughing! I'm not sure that we could or would want to put a price on this hobby because that might take away some of our enjoyment of being together and of playing with the girls and stretching our creativity!

 

You sound like me and my fiance! Sharing the hobby brings us closer together and how could you put a (huge, scary, ginormous, ungodly) price on that!?

It's for insurance purposes though (and maybe to prove to hubby that I don't spend as much on my girls as he does his toys with motors haha)

I have the original costs of each items, the shipping fees I paid, Paypal fees I paid (if applicable), and current marketplace value for each item (here and on DOA).

 

It's because of the type of homeowners insurance we have, so if anything happens the items will be replaced, and at marketplace value with shipping and paypal fees included (because prices fluctuate).

 

So, let's say something happens to Miniko (DDdy Miko). Her marketplace and Volks price are the same, $484. My insurance company will pay that amount plus the $28.18 it took to ship her to me, for a total of $512.18.

 

But let's say I got a DD Rise when she first came out at (57,750 yen) $563.70 US. About $30 in shipping so $593.70. Well because you can't get her for that price anymore, they would replace her at marketplace value ($1,500 - $2,000).

 

And I have some of my Volks Limited outfits insured as well (example: original: $80, marketplace: $150)

 

I get full coverage on all my girls and all our other expensive items in our house (tv, ipad, laptop, 3ds, xbox, wii u, ect:.) I'd rather be safe than sorry, and I'd rather be able to replace any items if anything were to happen.

I think I could make a tally because I write most everything down, but I'm not really sure I want to!

Just think of this type of currency tracking: turn all of the numbers into hearts for every time you have spent "x" amount of dollars! Once you do this conversion you will feel much better knowing it was all spent for friendship and love.

I keep a vague tally in my head, mostly so I can point out that I still haven't spent as much as my significant other when they start complaining

I know about how much each item costs, but there's no way I'm going to add it up, nope, nope, nope. I'm sure I've spent a scary amount on doll stuff, especially since I don't make a lot of money (my priorities are just heavily skewed)

I keep a spreadsheet inventory of my dolls and things I consider "theirs"–fullset items and such. Since the dolls themselves are the majority share of the value of my hobby, I keep this list for my family as a self-appraisal of what I own. (If the dolls had serial numbers I'd have logged them.) I keep a similar inventory listing of my camera equipment.

 

That said, I do not have a similar inventory to measure the value of the clothes, wigs, option parts, accessories and tools I've bought, but I'd guess they would rather easily pay for another doll, possibly even two.

I know what I paid for each item, but I'd be afraid to actually start adding it up.

Just started this hobby, so yeah. Around1.4k USD

Not that bad several thousand but but have a decent job and reciprocated to reselling and other hobby,

 

I enjoy the hobby so I dont really think about it, I just think of it as one of life's luxuries to afford and I'm thankful for it.

Ahh, as much as I wanted to keep track of it, I lost it.

But I think I'm pretty much broke right now. Afraid to buy more things, yet it is so hard to do.

What I know is I spent all my money of one month job and still , the character I'm creating with my DD is not done. Which is really sad

I only have 2 DDs but I buy little things for them every so often, so its probably more then I would like to spend but there are SO many cute things out there! Must not think of how much I have spent!

I definitely wont! I'm sure I'll have a rough estimate in my head - but I'd rather not cringe at the growing number!

I am tracking mine, but that is because I will probably sell some DD I do not end up connecting with. I am going to be selling some of my figures in order to support my transition to DD for instance, so having that listing is very beneficial.

I should really start writing it down one of these days... But I do remember how much I've spent to buy each of my girls... How much I've spent on their wigs, clothes & accessories are a whole different story... Those I only have a vague estimate on how much I've spent per item >__>;

I only have one DD, so tallying that is easy... But I also have resin dolls... And I have 6... Soon to be 7 of those... if I tally... I'm pretty sure I'll cry... Not including clothing and stuff its a lot. So no. No I dont. If I tally I'll stop collecting and sell them all- so its better that I dont stop and think about it- if I do, I slap myself DX

Of course i always budget and predict to see if i can afford it over the long run, but otherwise if theres a girl i really like that i want or have an idea for, i'll get it!! ;D
