This question is just for fun.

 

What would you do if your dolls came alive? *wicked laughter and lighting crashes*

 

I would not be automatically be afraid if they did because despite many books, movies, and television shows with that premise, it would not be a given that my gals are evil.

 

Also, I think their new existence would have to be bound by a set of rules. Something similar to what Isaac Asimov did with his Three Laws of Robotics.

 

The more practical situations may be a big challenge. A few examples:

 

1) Do they have to eat? If so, what?

2) Would they have to use the bathroom? Would they have similar body functions to us humans?

3) Would they ever get sick?

4) What would their voices sound like? Perhaps her or his voice wouldn’t match their character or the character you made them to be? Would you be upset if your very girly-doll had a deep, husky voice?

5) What kinds of emotions would they have? For example, would doll ‘A’ get jealous of doll ‘B’ if you spent more time with ‘B’ instead of ‘A’?

6) What if they don’t like you?

 

Number 6 would be a concern of mine. I mean, what if all of my gals (currently 13) said, “Hey Marq, we really don’t like you so we are going to move out.” I would be heartbroken but could deal with it…

 

...with the exception of my favorite, Gena. If she said “goodbye” I would be devastated

 

 

Again this question is just for fun but I imagine most of us at one time or another has thought about this.

Oh god, if my girls came to life, I'd be TOTALLY SCREWED. I wouldn't have a moment's peace again!

 

Granted, Nanoha wouldn't be too bad most of the time (unless she decided that someone/thing needed a bit of discipline, in which case there would likely be a crater somewhere--luckily she's got a pretty level temper), but Agatha? That'd be really bad. A little mad scientist running around the house? My household appliances would never be the same! My toaster, my stove, my speakers, probably my camera and my phone. . . probably even my car would all be stripped down for parts and turned into bizarre steampunk machines. Also, I don't know what pitch Agatha's voice would be, but she would definitely be loud. Seems like in the Girl-Genius 'verse, all "Sparks" (mad scientists with reality-warping levels of nerdiness) are prone to yelling things, especially when they're "in the madness place" and making trans-dimensional toasters and helicopter hogs. :/

 

I like to think they'd like me, but if they didn't I'd be even worse off. Granted, Nanoha would try to talk things out first, either to smooth over whatever problem we had or to cushion the blow before leaving, but if I really put my foot in my mouth there's still the fact that as a mage she'd be perfectly capable of leveling the house. And Agatha. . . I'm pretty sure she'd yell at me if she'd *like* me; I'm not entirely sure I want to contemplate what it would be like if she didn't.

 

I love my girls, but when I think about it I'm pretty glad they're dolls!

Holy crap!! If my girls came to life that would be the BEST EVER!! I work from home and am aone until my boyfriend comes home, so they would be some ovely company to talk to and have little comversations or get-togethers with, and chat about their views on life and how they interpret our world with them being smaller beings.

Haha, it would be so cute to see them eat! It'd be nice for them to eat real people food, but probably better if it were a source that wasn't hard to find. (Or is?) I don't know what a viny girl would eat, but I remember seeing a movie where porceain dolls stuffed with sawdust would eat sawdust (they eaked it from their cracks and seams often).

 

2) Would they have to use the bathroom? Would they have similar body functions to us humans?

This made me think of Rozen Maiden XD I usually would prefer not to clean up after anything, but them being as beautiful as they are, it would be kind of odd to think of them dirty like that. Excrements... Maybe if they pooped jewels or something...

 

3) Would they ever get sick?

I'd be kinda relieved! I'm terrible at keeping up consistent voices sometimes. I think it would be a pleasant surprise to see them with their own shticks. Along with speech patterns!

They might! I think they'd all have their personalities, and this would depend on their likes of me or not, as wel as how much attention they seek from people.

I would cry. ;^; Unless they turn out to be evil. Well, I'd still probably love them. I hope they don't dislike me enough to leave! But if they didn't like me, it'd be better to get them another owner whom they could bond with.

I am perfectly happy that my dolls are not alive. If they needed real food that would blow up the grocery budget. If they could get sick they'd need medical coverage, which also isn't cheap. Plus, I'm more of a one-on-one type person and being in large crowds makes me anxious. I call myself "people claustrophobic". My birthday parties rarely had more than 5-6 people invited. Any more and I get overwhelmed. So if my dolls were alive, I'd probably only have one, maaaaaaybe two. But I don't know who! I'd also guess that they would be like a roommate or an adopted child, in that most people try to get to know them at least a little before you bring them into your home. So probably who lived here would be the one or ones I get along with. Likely it would be the lower key personalities I could stand for long periods, like my first girl Ayano. But that's unfortunate, since I love my upbeat noisier girls too. That's why I have them as dolls, so I can admire them without getting annoyed.

Well, pretty much in my stories, I treat them as they are alive.

They don't have to eat. They can subsist by the bond with their human but they usually do eat both out of habit from when they are not bonded and also because of liking various foods. Each one has very different tastes.

 

2) Would they have to use the bathroom?

If they are eating, yes. Especially if they are over-indulging like a few here tend to do.

 

3) Would they ever get sick?

They are some dollfie-specific illness, but they are rare. The more common cause of illness are things like over-exertion or over-eating.

 

4) What would their voices sound like?

Pretty much like I imagine them to be, I would think.

 

5) What kinds of emotions would they have?

With the crowd I have here, they would run the gamut.

 

6) What if they don't like you?

Most would and the few that might not would be bonded too closely to some of the ones that are to abandon them.

Heh, I can't say I haven't thought about this before.

 

If my girls ever did come to life, I think my life would be a total soap opera and full of non stop drama! I mean, you guys have seen the craziness that goes on around here and with 22 different personalities, I'm sure conflicts would arise on an almost daily basis.

 

I do think most of them would behave and do the right things but I have some real pistols here and if things went wrong in just the right way, all hell could break loose.

 

I don't think it would be all that bad tho especially if the girls acted and behaved like they do in my mind. The ones who could cause trouble would easily be evened out by the ones who follow the rules.

 

As for the questions about them and how they would live:

Of course they'd have to eat! Have you SEEN my stories? I would hope that since the girls sprung to life from vinyl and plastic then their food source would do the same. All I'd need to do is keep their tiny food rations in the fridge and pray they magically restore themselves every night. LOL

 

2) Would they have to use the bathroom? Would they have similar body functions to us humans?

 

Well, if they were eating and drinking I'd have to say yes they would. But toilet issues aren't my concern. My real concern is sharing my only bathroom with TWENTY TWO FEMALES! Can you imagine the insanity of me actually being able to find space for my toothpaste and razor among all those girly things like bath soaps, hair supplies and such? And how about the issues of me walking in on one or two of them while they are bathing or something? I'd be a dead man for sure!

 

3) Would they ever get sick?

 

Nah, they're way too tough for that. They'll get worn out from staying up too late playing video games or watching movies but not any actual illness. But Manami would definitely get hungover since she tends to drink a bit much.

 

4) What would their voices sound like? Perhaps her or his voice wouldn’t match their character or the character you made them to be? Would you be upset if your very girly-doll had a deep, husky voice?

 

Like Kymaera said, I think all my girls would sound like they do in my head. No worries there.

HA! The full run of female emotions are almost already rampant in my stories so I know they'd happen if they were alive too. I already have rivalries, hookups and other crazy things going on so it would only make sense for the girls to be fully open for human emotions.

 

6) What if they don’t like you?

 

While some of my girls do question me quite often, I can't say that any of them wouldn't like me overall. As most of you know, my girls all have their quirks in personality but underneath those, they do seem to love me and I always love them. So I seriously doubt any of my girls would openly say they didn't like me.

 

So in closing, I'd love to see my girls spring to life. It would be a huge change for me but I'd accept them with open arms and have as much fun as possible with them. One big plus of this is doing photo stories..... it would be SOOOOO much easier without me having to pose them anymore! All I'd have to do is use a tape recorder to type out what they've said and just be quick with the camera. Easy peasy.

This is one thing I do miss about working with live models; just giving them direction in a pose instead of me manually having doing it. Or they could hold a pose and just move their eyes.

 

However, there is one big plus to having my dolls as models. Unlike human models, the dolls are ALWAYS on time!!

This has been a fun question to think about. The concept has been kind of on my mind a bit recently, partly due to the "Smart Doll" getting me thinking more and more about robotics again. Plus, I've always, mentally, given my dolls/stuffed animals lives of their own, but some of the points brought up here have given me a slightly different way of looking at it.

Have to? No, I don't think so, but would they? YES. Especially Yuriko. I doubt there would be a pastry shop/bakery/ice cream shop left in town.

Not entirely sure. Sometimes I think that Yuriko somehow manages to metabolize 100% of what she ingests. She has to get that energy from somewhere. She would definitely bathe, though.

 

3) Would they ever get sick?

 

As others have said, only from overeating/overdrinking/lack of sleep. Injuries might be commonplace around our house.

 

4) What would their voices sound like? Perhaps her or his voice wouldn’t match their character or the character you made them to be? Would you be upset if your very girly-doll had a deep, husky voice?

 

To be honest, I really don't have any of their voices totally pinned down. That's not terribly surprising to me, though, since I often have trouble recalling even voices that I hear frequently in RL, kind of like faces. They just don't seem to stick in my mind at all. I would probably be delighted with whatever voices they ended up with.

They would certainly have the full range of emotions, though some would be much more expressive than others. I'm sure there would be a bit of jealousy around our house. Poor Tama definitely gets jealous of anybody spending much time with his mommy. He also seems to get a bit threatened by anyone who he thinks might take his place as the cutest in the household. Yuriko tends to be content as long as there is somebody who is willing to pay attention to her and her daddy spends at least a little time with her every day.

 

6) What if they don’t like you?

 

I mostly can't imagine this happening, although a couple dolls in this household certainly aren't as close to me as others. I think Tamayuki was a bit afraid of me at first, but he slowly came around. Bree notices me as much as she notices anybody. I think Naiomi and I are still very much in the getting to know eachother stage. Yuriko adores me and seems to look up to me a bit. I'm not sure if Dolly thinks I'm quite manly enough for him. I'm really not sure about any of the others in the house, ut I'm pretty sure that at least none of them would actively dislike me.

 

I do think things would be a bit more dramatic. There are certainly some personalities that clash a bit around here, but I think that at least everyone would be able to live with eachother. I imagine that the cats would have a hard time knowing what to make of the situation. Overall, I think it would be pretty great, though.

Rozen Maiden style? I'd welcome it and do wish Busou Shinkis would get the same "experience" because of how how they are. Both them and Varakitsu of mine. If Vara and Shinkis were to act alive all hell would break loose. I'd have to cage them at points or purposely have the Shinkis drain and the fox tied up

Haven't really thought about that and highly unsure. Just as long as my Foxy doesn't have that Texas or "girls pretending to sound cute with a faint high-pitched tone", I'd then welcome her voice. Something on a European level or shrugglingly Koko Hekmatyr sounding. I'm at a loss here.

Emotions? Curiosity, happiness, anger,....the typical but in a more controlled manner similar to Koko Hekmatyr or another "well behaved" yet "sly" anime character. I'd imagine Vara pouncing respectfully on opportunities and possessions she would want, even with words.

All I know is I would have to treat Varakitsu (and vice-versa) with the utmost respect or else we'd both find one another waging a very serious and possibly deadly war needing the local authorities to intervene. I'd need a medic and she would need to be uh.....caged. Ya, nothing other than being caged because she needs her respect.

Raven and I have talked about this before and I personally think it would be really neat as long as I didn't get too emotionally overloaded by a suddenly active household. Raven and I agree that they would maintain their current sizes and not be sized appropriate to their ages.

Yuriko: LOTS of sweets and anything with sugar in it & alcohol

Tamayuki: his size in vegetarian onigiri as long as it didn't give him a tummy ache

Naiomi: Chocolate

Rainie: Pizza with dill pickle slices

Ringo: vegan food

Ralph: I dunno yet but I doubt it would be normal

Bree: anything that does not require the use of utensils that aren't her hands

Dakota: Beer. Lots, and lots of beer

I'd hope that their systems would be sophisticated enough to absorb 100% of what they eat. Just trying to imagine MDD sized Tama trying to climb up the side of the toilet to use it and not fall in just seems so sad. On the other hand I'm sure the DD would love to go swimming in their own personal pool (bathtub), or use the bathroom sink for a bathtub.

I assume that they would be like cats and couldn't catch human germs. Now if they would pretend they were sick to get attention or something they wanted, that's another story entirely. Tama would so totally do it in a heartbeat if he thought it would make him look cute and have stories read to him. Yuriko would quickly jump on the bandwagon once she realized that it's an excuse to stay in bed, have people do things for you, play video games all day, and get all the candy you want (cough drops). Naiomi would be too busy to care, Rainie would think it was a bad example to her troops, Ringo might join in just to get some quiet time to herself, Ralph would blame the aliens for the germs, Bree would make fake coughing and sneezing and demand candy and not attempting to look sick at all, and I don't think Dakota would really care.

All of their voices are so well defined to me that I really can't imagine them to sound differently. Their voices and speech patterns are as distinct to me as their faceups.

Its like this already, I don't need them to be real for them to express themselves. That's one reason I love the DD because they are the most expressive dolls I've ever had.

I really think of this as a non-issue. From my viewpoint they have already chosen to be here and be themselves. If they didn't like us, they wouldn't be here.

Since my girl is based off a existing character, think of seiyuu Minako Kotobuki's kuudere voice.

I think Hizuru would more be like a loner one day and stalker one day. She might get jealous if I took care of Charles (My SDGr boy) too much.
