Do your dolls reflect your mannerisms?

Recommended Posts

Marq V

This question is based on one of my own mannerisms, which happened quite by accident:

When I feel cold in my home I will sometimes wrap a blanket around myself or put on my fuzzy, warm robe, instead of using the central heater. I then realized I started to put blankets on my gals, or put them in their robes, as well so they won’t ‘feel’ cold. Of course, I know my gals don’t feel anything. It is just a quirk that I fell into and it is all in good fun

By the way, I believe part of this mannerism is to due to the fact that I don’t display my dolls on stands or in a statue-like manner. They are all *comfortably sitting or lying on chairs or couches.

*I know, I know...if they don't feel cold than they don't feel comfortable, either

Oh BOY! Does this strike a chord in my house! I realized the other day that I had done exactly the same thing...I put on a sweater because I was cold and then noticed that my girls were sitting around in their bathing suits...so I put a nice, comfy blanket over them so they wouldn't be cold either! You also made me realize that just before that day, during a "blast of heat" day, I put on my bathing suit because I was so hot (and planning to go for a swim later in the day) and then proceeded to dress my girls in their suits, too!! Best of all, its not only me that has started doing things like this. One evening last week when my husband and I were watching T.V. he suddenly said "Hey! Charlotte can't see see the T.V. from over there. I laughed and didn't pay any attention to him but the next time I looked over, he had moved her chair and re-adjusted her head so that she had a perfectly clear view of the T.V. He has also started to bring them 'snacks' when we have our snack before bedtime! (btw...mini oreo cookies are the perfect size for them!! LOL)

Come to think of it I have my gals facing the television, too. Great minds think alike, right?

Ha ha, chalk me up for the blanket thing too! Where my girls are on my dressers there's an AC vent that blows directly on some of them. If those girls don't have on clothing that covers them much, I always put some type of blanket/cover over them so they aren't cold. It seems a lot of us do this!

I also notice that most of my girls don't wear shoes often. When I'm at home, I *always* go barefoot or if it's cold, I'll wear socks or some slippers. My girls tend to do the same thing.... either barefoot or socks.

And one other I do with them is "feed" them. I bring one girl a night into the computer room with me or to the living room to watch TV. This way, each girl gets an evening with me all by themselves. With so many girls, this makes time with me even and fair. Anyways, if I get something to snack on or eat supper with one of them, I tend to grab them something to hold while I eat.... like a mini burger, hot dog, sweets or whatever. If I'm chowing down and they aren't I feel bad about it and have to get them something too.

I’m glad I’m not the only one. Now I don’t feel so weird

Before long you’ll have enough girls to rotate 1 each for each day of the month!

Will Manami get to choose her day because she is your favorite?

Ha ha! 30 or 31 girls huh? That's still a lot of girls to house! As for Manami, she has her spot just like all the other girls do. I started with her and went in line by date of adoption so she went first, then Rei, then Yoko and so on. Now sometimes I'll get Manami and bring her into the living room during a weekend to hang out with me but I won't let any girl knock another out of their respective spot. That would just be rude.

Or is that "Fools seldom differ?"

(Scary, but I just realized that I do the 'barefeet' thing too! I am barefoot, the girls are barefoot...I have slippers/socks on, the girls have slippers/socks on! This is starting to freak me out a bit! They get up when we do, go to bed when we do, snack when we do, watch T.V. when we do...wonder what else is the same if I really think about it? (*sighs in relief*...I just remembered that we don't sleep with plushies and they do!! Thank goodness there is at least one difference!!)

The shoes thing sounds awfully similar to our house, with the exception of Yuriko, who insists on nearly constantly wearing her shoes. But most of the time Tamayuki and Yuriko share SK's and my respective bedtimes, insist on being allowed to watch whenever we are watching anything (especially if it's anime), and Yuriko demands to be allowed to watch, and preferrably get a chance to hold a controller any time I'm playing video games. I've also seen SK add clothes to the kids any time she feels particularly cold and they are dressed for warmer temperatures and dress them down when it gets hot, although each one seems to have a bit different comfort range. Naiomi seems to have the mos tolerance for heat, while Yuriko seems to be best adapted to cold.

As Raven already stated, there is a lot of these type of things that we do. Wen we took Yuriko and Tamayuki to Raven's parent's house in February and again in July I made sure to pack them some (doll) food and drinks. As much sweets that Yuriko eats, she would throw a royal fit not having anything to eat for a whole weekend. Even on their birthdays we let them have their favorite (real) foods even though it can be stuff that Raven and I don't normally eat. Tama has been talking to me all year about the Christmas cookies we can make in December and he keeps asking me if he gets to make another pie for Thanksgiving.

Personally I find changing clothes because of weather/seasons to be a convenient way for the kids to use more of their clothes, as well as the other stated reasons.

I cannot play Pokemon without Rainie kicking up a storm if she doesn't get to play with me. She can get loud when she wants to! Similarly I have trouble getting a break from Tama-chan, he's just like a little kid. If I leave him in a room and go into another one to get quiet time away from the DD (it's not like I don't spend all day with them normally anyway) sometimes Tama is so clingy that I can hear him yelling for me from the other room. "But Mommy, I want to spend time with you!" I feel bad when I have to ignore him, but he seems to think that he's stuck to me with super glue! (I'm sure that Raven can attest that I'm really rather the same way with him. Me and Tama are like two peas in a pod. For better or worse. )

Tama has started to grow up at least a little. It used to be that every night I would take him with me when I went to bed and tuck him into his bed. For a while when I tried nicely to tell him that he needed to stay with his sisters, he would get so upset at me that I'd almost be crying, and couldn't force him to stay where he was. For me Tama is really an emotional reflection of myself, making it easier for me to see what's going on with me that I may not be able to identify until I see it projected on him. He's almost always snuggling with something, even the other day he was wrapped up in my baby blanket and didn't want to let it go. At first he seemed to be happy snuggling with my soft blanket, but by the end of the second day he seemed really upset. I realized that I was unknowingly stressing myself out, but Tama seemed to be fully well aware of it.

Billy, I still don't know how you manage the rotation thing. If I tried that, Tama would just put his foot down. If he was being 'generous' it would be his turn every other night, but most likely he would make the other DD share his Mommy with them. I'm still not sure if I should laugh or be frustrated by that fact. There is definitely going to be a bit of a roller coaster once Bree is around here full time. If I want to see how loudly he can protest, I just have to suggest that he let Bree use his body for a while and the hurricane is unleashed! With Ralph needing to use the Obitsu 45cm body for a while (with the male bust), Tama opted to go back to using the sanded S bust instead of letting Bree use his body for a while, and he totally loathes that bust.

He may be sweet as high fructose corn syrup, but gee wiz that boy can be stubborn! Even so, I think one of the reasons why I love our DD so much is because they really are various reflections of ourselves, allowing me to have the (mostly) ideal family that I can't realistically have. They can be really bossy, pushy, loud, goofy, interesting, caring, adorable, and affectionate when I need them to be, but they also can be so super quiet and patient when I need them to be too (like when I had my breakdown this spring.) Real kids would never give me that option, but the DD encourage me and allow me to be the kind of mommy I dreamed of being when I was 5.

It's quite easy actually. Even tho Manami is my number one girl and she gets preferential treatment sometimes, she does understand how to share time spent with me. She's a bit more grown up than she lets on and is more than happy to share my attention with her sisters. This isn't to say she won't be clingy sometimes or even get upset that she needs "Papa Time" when it's not her turn. But overall, all of my girls agree that having my full attention for a whole night is better than just getting *some* attention while doing a photo shoot or story.

Some girls do tend to show up in stories more often than others and I can't help that. So in order to level the field more, taking one of them a night to hang out alone is the best solution we've found to give each of my girls the attention they deserve. I sometimes feel that having this large family is making me a worse "parent" by having less time with each girl but I try and do whatever I can to make them all feel important and special.

Does it count that I like to have them in Pjs after dark?

Yup. I also have my gals in sleepwear when evening time comes

Not really. I think the only thing I do is decide on warmer outfits when there's cold days outside and I'm gonna photograph her outside. But that's probably it.

I grouched at Raven the other day because Yuriko and Sohi were lounging about in their underwear and seeing them made me cold. Tama on the other hand is wrapped up in his favorite blanket, is fully clothed with slippers over his socks, and snuggling his two best buds. Even Dolly has his knit hat on.
