It's weird that they won't release them to the US considering I got Cirno no problem through the international site.

Yeah, that confuses me. If you can still get them from Volks Japan while being an international customer, then why should it matter?

Rise - Rise // Rise #2 - Rise // Ritsuko - 2B // Momo - M.O.M.O. // Nayuki -Mikuru // Romi - 09 // Makoto - Sailor Jupiter // Mikasa - DD07 (WIP)

It might be that another company has an exclusive US license or Touhou did not grant Volks a US license. When you buy directly from Volks Japan, you are importing the item for personal use and neither you nor Volks needs a license to complete the sale. But selling directly from a store in the US is very different.

The creator of Touhou Project, Zun, is a bit odd. He will not give licensing out for any countries other than Japan. From what I've gathered, he does NOT want people who do not know his characters from the games to buy products of these characters. Even with other merchandise (figures, art books, dakamakura, etc...) most stores can't even manage to get stock to sell because he doesn't want to risk it getting sold to people who are not fans of the games.

And because there has never been an English release of his games (and chances are he doesn't even want them to have one) the US can not get licensing for any Touhou Project merchandise.

Believe me I agree ><

I'm the same way, I buy what I do because I like the looks of it. I sometimes check out the source material at some point (if I like it great, if not I just ignore it) but if I like the looks of the character that's what matters most.

As for Zun, I don't think he really cares about anyone outside of Japan. I'm not totally versed in the subject (I've never really been interested in Touhou Project, I just picked some info up from figure collecting) but as far as I can tell he is completely content to only have his games reach Japanese gamers for the most part. And in turn, his character merchandise as well.

At least he hasn't forbidden Volks from offering the dolls on the international site. I'm pretty sure that's what happened with Marisa and Reimu (but not with Cirno) and would definitely be something he would do. Maybe Volks negotiated with him to allow Cirno on the international site, I don't know. But I'm glad that Youmu will (most likely) be available.

ZUN actually made his first appearance at an anime con in the US not too long ago. He seemed rather surprised that Touhou has such a huge following here. Maybe he honestly just had no idea.

Anyway, it's good to hear that Youmu might be available to everyone. I'll have to keep a closer eye on the international site now. ^^

*edit*

Looks like she's in the international lottery, so I'll be entering for her when it opens. Good luck to anyone else trying for her! ^^

A friend of mine in KL Malaysia and another in Singapore both won a Konpaku Youmu, for anyone that wants to know. If you're wondering if confirmation emails have started arriving, that is.

I hate to dig this up, but I was just looking at the Volks website store and it looks like Youmu is back in stock. There's only one left (again). She's been popping in and out of stock for me in the past hour or so.

If you want her, this could be a last chance! (1:07am Eastern Time)
