Curly wig styling

Recommended Posts

Well, I'm not really a newbie (I think!) but I thought this would be the best place to post as I'm a newbie with regards to curly wigs. I have a Leekeworld long, curly wig on My new DD Tamaki, and it looks great. The colour is "brown carrot." It was a freebie with my order, I never would have chosen that colour myself, but it matches Tamaki perfectly. I gather it is a limited colour, so I can't order a straight wig in the same colour.

While the wig looks great, it has tonnes of fly-aways. This is getting worse the more that I handle the wig. It's not as noticeable in real life, but on pictures it looks like a hazy curly halo around the wig.

Does anyone have any curly wig styling tips? Don't worry, pics of Tamaki will be coming soon!

I have a premium account with Leeke World. I can get wigs made in limited colors.

Brown Carrot is one of the colors offered. If you want to get a different style but stick with Brown Carrot, we are doing a group order (at least it is me and Galvatim so far).

I want to try some of the new summer colors, especially Ocean Blue.

The deadline to order is August 15th Korean time, so I would probably place the order by Saturday the 13th.

It takes 30-40 days to make the wigs, but you can get exactly what you want.

Okay, I'm responding to my own thread in case this is helpful to someone. Basically, use a comb, not a brush. Metal teeth are better than plastic (due to less static). Comb each curl out in a segment, wrap around your finger or pencil or something, release. Much nicer!

I'll have to try this tomorrow. Since I have NO hair care products in my home ( gee I wonder why ) I'll pick up a metal comb tomorrow at Wally World. Then try this out on that Volks wig I have. I'd love to be able for Miyuki to use it again, she rocked in it!

Another post by myself! Re-posted from Figure.fm, but I thought it was useful (and might be to myself when I forget it again!):

With regards to curly wig care, I think I have found a method that works okay. You need to separate the curls into individual curls. Straighten the curl out with your fingers by pulling it out and comb it with a wide toothed comb. I actually used a pet comb. When the curl is straight (because you are still pulling on it to keep it straight), make sure all the hairs from the curl are together and then start twisting. The chunk of hair will form a tight twist you can twist tight or loose, I twisted until it started kinking up on itself, which I thought would be too much. Release the curl. It should form a loose spiral/spring with all the hairs from that segment more or less together.

Repeat for the next curl, and the next. If there a lot of curls, it takes a long time. With Tamaki's wig, there was 6 segments that were curled separately.

Also, never use a brush -- I learned this the hard way. With my straight wigs, I've been using a soft toothbrush, and it ruined/frizzed/fuzzed the curl on Tamaki's Leekeworld wig. However, after spending a long time on the wig, it looks better than ever.

Here's a link to the thread on DoA I used as a reference:
