National Novel Writing Month

Also known as NaNoWriMo, the innacurately-named National Novel Writing Month is an international event that takes place every November. Each crazed participant tries to write fifty thousand words worth of a novel (words, not pages, calm down!) in 30 days. More info on the official website. The idea is to crank out a first draft.

 

So, anyone else here doing it this year? Shall we share bits o novelling info?

Plots completed: None. ^^;; Always have either reached the halfway point and gotten stuck, or just petered out after the 30 day marathon. Hope to fix that this year though!

 

Novel info:

Title: "Timey Wimey Magical Chronicle"

Genre: Fanfiction technically, though ignoring that it's adventure with a sci-fi approach.

(It's a Doctor Who x Magical Girl Lyrical Nanoha crossover. When done, it'll have spoilers for DW through "Journey's End" and Nanoha through the end of StrikerS.)

 

Always in the past I've started new novels every November, but this year I'm actually going to try to finish my project from last year.

Last year was the first time I tried officially, and I didn't win. This year I'll be trying again. I've been thinking of what to write this year for the past few weeks and I've still got crippling writer's block lol.

 

All I know is that it'll probably wind up being a Dark fantasy or something.

I'm going to try writing something that I've been tossing around in my head for a while to see if I can get it down on paper and actually move the story somewheres :3

I was thinking of trying this... I've been a member for several years, but never tried... although my goal was to write 2,000 words a day, but each day is a new story idea.... just to generate some ideas.

It's November again, you guys! I'm novelling again (appropriately, resurrecting and heavily revamping the plot from my first NaNo ever). Are any of you?

I've done Nano for a few years now, and always managed to make the target... but this year, I'm not sure I will. I just have no solid ideas, no inspiration or motivation to write. Really not feeling it. ;.; November really crept up on me, too. So not ready.

 

Four of my DD girls are characters from a story I did for "Camp Nanowrimo" earlier this year (though they date back almost ten years now when I first designed the chars). I was considering continuing that story, though I know Nanowrimo's goals are for new projects. I never end up finishing any story I start, though. Really terrible about it. So if I do another 50k on their story, maybe it will go somewhere. ^^;

I did continuations of my 2012 project in 2013 and 14--so long as you don't count your previously written words, it's kosher.

 

That's cool that you were able to DD-ize some of your characters! I've never been able to shell any of my OCs because I'm far too picky about getting them to look just like they do in my head. ^^;

Dammit.... I completely forgot about it! Nooooooo... gonna do it again this year for my 4th year but omg November snuck up on me!

 

 

I do have a premise that I want to use though thankfully xD

 

I failed hard last year, because the story I had planned decided to break itself into two separate tales and I couldn't keep up lol. This year, I am going to work on a fantasy genre story. I don't know if I can call it dark fantasy yet but hopefully it will turn that way. I've pretty much been world building since last November.

 

Doubt I'll win this year either but I hope I really make some headway x3

Yeah, I flopped hard last year too, because I didn't outline at all--turns out that I do better as a planner than a pantser. (When I pants it, my characters tend to blow me off and go to Ihop instead of saving the universe, the cheeky little bastards.)

 

Still, it's 30K more words than I had at the start, and I learn just as much from the years that go badly as the ones that go well, so, yeah.

Well, unless you're super quick, you might not hit 50K, but this is exactly halfway through the month, so 25K words should TOTALLY be doable--and that'll be 25K more words than you had when you started.

I passed 25k last night. \o/ Was quite worried early on since I had no motivation, but the story has ended up more or less writing itself. Still a lot to do, of course, but fortunately I am back on track.

True. I'm kinda lost on exactly how to begin my main story but maybe I could do the side works for it? That might help me get better ideas as a lot of the side works take place before the main story and shed a lot of light on Celia's past and other characters from it that otherwise would be less than remarkable and even too easy to hate.

I've had like three zero word days in a row because I've been stupid busy. ^^;

 

But yeah, jumping around and stuff like that is totally kosher. I spent like, the past 7 NaNos sticking to writing linearly, for. . . no real reason. :/ Started skipping around in the story's timeline this year for the first time, and finding it a lot more productive. (Of course, this is one of the years I planned, I don't think I could put it off if I pantsed it.)

I've been busy too. Also I've just been wondering what to do next. There's just so many different things I could begin on at this point.
