First things to do after getting a new girl?

I do hope I am not the only person to do this though.

Open box and dress her up with lots of clothes with wig combination then admire her beauty.

This seems normal, but the extra step I take here is to enjoy the strong soft vinyl smell.... I really love the fresh vinyl smell though.

You know, both my current girls were secondhand, so I don't really have much experience with the fresh vinyl smell. Unless the smell is similar to say, Funko's ponies, which are solid hard vinyl. That smell I like because it means new stuff, but I'm always worried too since it means they're seriously outgassing chemicals.

I checked for stains and cracks first and then I did a little pose test with her to see if any of her joints were loose. Then I spent about 20 minutes staring at her face in awe

...and then to the barrage of wigs, clothes, the feeding of iwako erasers and a nice little photoshoot to sum up the personality and how happy you are to spoil your little madam!

Hmmm...

For me it was searching for clothes/accessories, which has been an endless cycle. Getting a stand, but i make my own now. Take lots of photos to share.

Basically doing an unboxing and taking images. See how much I could pose her after clothing her or keep things on the "professional" level but fun. I try to keep any figure & Doll nudity unsharable because that would be a bit silly to post. Trying to figure out how to take images of Dollfies after taking images of Figmas and Busou Shinkis for so long. The way you take pictures changes in scale and thought process.

Step 2 would be to obtain appropriate clothing and accessories. Well, if you haven't got it all in one go. Grabbing all the appropriate available clothing that isn't "sold out", "out of stock", or hidden at some hard to reach site.

Step three would be to take her to meet-ups and conventions for that fun without getting all angry and impatient, like I did. I wasn't used to having a doll and was very sleepy so I got angry quickly which I now highly regret. Take as many images as you can and have as much fun as you can because that time will be used up swiftly. Make the most of it.

Still in the process of clothing my Vara foxy and getting her own personal lovely sword. Done!

I take photos of the unboxing, including detailed shots of their outfits and accessories. After I get them dressed I then try and get some more creative shots. After that I put her into a pose I like, put her on a stand, and simply admire her. That's basically what I do with all my new doll arrivals.

My first DD girl should be here next week. I did buy her a plushie already. It's so cute, a little wool goat christmas ornament that I found at Whole Foods Market. I've been reading everything I can find about these dolls so I'll know how to do repairs and what kind of clothes to buy. As soon as she arrives I probably will just stare at her with an enormous smile on my face.

My new girls never have anything of their own except eyes, so I raid the doll cabinet and start shopping for clothes! They can usually find something to borrow while their stuff comes in

H-A-I-R!

I can't plan out a doll most of the times so most of my girls don't even get played with until they have their own hair and eyes combo that works for them!

After that they get paraded around and get photos, usually the first persons to ever see them generally are the besties one way or another lol.

Another little weird tradition usually is to have her pick her nose and scratch her butt for an un classy moment XD Seems to be a little tradition we have lol

First thing I do after getting a new doll: install coolcat reinforcements. Then put on her pantsu

Does anyone know how useful that is for the latest DD bodies? I have them both on Sakuya & Yaya, but I haven't heard of anyone talking about the shoulders breaking recently. The sense of security is great though

The price of the reinforcement part isn't too bad so I decided to get them after reading about it. This was after preordering my first DD Miku (Should have researched before ordering...). Miku was my most expensive purchase at the time so I didn't want anything bad to happen to it. I got the neck replacement too but you can always replace that after/if the neck breaks without any issue. I've seen people use zip ties for the shoulder and hip parts for reinforcement/repair so I don't imagine the damage being too bad even if it does break. The peace of mind is great though!

For my first doll I installed the reinforcement parts then dressed her. Should have made sure the clothing wouldn't stain first but I couldn't wait.

As far as I know, the latest DD3s joints are safe... I haven't had any trouble with mine, and I haven't heard of breakage form anyone else.

Yeah, I haven't had any issues or heard of any either. I do really like the Coolcat neck joint though, not for sturdiness but rather for extended range of movement.

Almost forgot the most important thing! I usually buy my girls blank, so when they come home its painting time! I haven't bought a pre-painted one yet...

The first DD I received was a Fullset KOS-MOS so I sat there for several hours putting her together. I love her armor and what not but it's a bit of a hassle to take her out in it. She stood there in her armor for 2 weeks until her new clothes came in. Then she went casual.

First thing I do is stare at how lovely her face is for about 5 minutes XD... Then I do the usual dressing and fixing of the wig, and then a photo shoot takes place.

1. Smile like a creeper

2. Say "omg" or something as smart as that

3. Tell her how big she is

4. "No, I'm not calling you fat! You're just taller than I expected!"

5. Dress her up and put a wig on

6. Hug time!

7. Hang out with her

Received my one and only DD back in November. So far, it sounds like I'm doing everything correctly: nonstaining white fabric on the table during unboxing; photos taken during unboxing; body stocking on; bought a thermometer and checked the usual temperature in the lighted china cabinet before putting her there; bought a rock solid stand. Stumbled on a $2 plush at Goodwill (most inexpensive DD item I have) and bought it for her yesterday.

Then ----> I read these boards.

I've never heard of CoolCat reinforcements. What are these? Why are they necessary? I have a DD2. Do the reinforcements fit this body? Would like to find out before anything gets damaged.

Thanks.

Coolcat reinforcement parts are only necessary on the DDIII body, and are not at all compatible with the DDII. The DDII body is quite sturdy and does not break in the same way, but is not as strong of a poser. They re engineered the shoulder to try to allow the DDIII to hold up heavier objects like swords, but the tension caused a bunch of the first few iterations of that body to break.

Jezrah - Thanks for the information. I'll calm down a little bit. I've heard of numerous problems with the DD3 body; but, I've never heard anyone describe any of them. The bit about stiffening up the shoulders makes sense. My DD2 can't extend a sword and hold it there. Still, I'm happy with her. (I'm also happy not to have DD3 problems.)

Introduce her to my wife & reiterate the reasons why this particular DD is needed to maintain the balance of the universe as I perceive it. Dress the doll, pose it, & then wait for my wife's exasperated sigh which precedes her inevitable adjustments. Then hand her the camera....
