Wayfinder Posted December 28, 2015 Right now I'm trying The Abyss Beyond Dreams by Peter F. Hamilton. It's a little unfocused but the sheer audacity of the setting carries it. Same with the last thing I read, the Imperial Radch series by Ann Leckie (Ancillary Mercy, Ancillary Justice and Ancillary Sword). The second-to-last thing I finished was two of the three books of the Three Body series (The Three-Body Problem, The Dark Forest) by Chinese author Cixin Liu. That, I highly recommend. I'd never read anything by a Chinese author before and stepping into Liu's writing was a very strange experience as I could feel the slightly alien patterns of thought in it rubbing up against my own. But oh, it was good.

Abel Posted February 21, 2016 'The Man who Smiled' by Henning Mankell. It's the 4th book of the Wallander series and I love his mysteries! Have also been reading Catherine Merridale's 'Ivan's War' for learning every once in a while.
jazijaz Posted March 6, 2016 The Child Thief by Brom. Just started it yesterday and I don't recommend it for the faint of heart because it's like the Peter Pan version without the innocent themes (ie. there's a lot of violence, rape and similar situations). I liked it so far.
Gamma Ray Posted March 20, 2016 I finally finished all 12 volumes of the Mobile Suit Gundam: The Origin manga, so I'm starting up some novels again. Earlier this afternoon, I began The Dance by Suzie Carr. I'm only a couple chapters in, but I'm enjoying it so far. Suzie Carr's my favorite author
Marilyn Posted March 21, 2016 (edited) The last three books that I really enjoyed were All You Need Is Kill by Hiroshi Sakurazaka, The Martian by Andy Weir, and The Invention of Hugo Cabret by Brian Selznick. I read The Martian before the movie was released, and IMHO it's far superior. The movie was absolutely enjoyable, but the book is so much better. (Not that most people would care, but it drives me a little crazy that Amazon helpfully upgraded the cover of the ebook to the movie tie-in version.) I read All You Need Is Kill after watching Edge of Tomorrow and I'd say that I enjoyed both, and they're different enough to each be enjoyed on their own merits. I have not yet seen Hugo, but the graphic novel by Brian Selznick is very well done. Poofiemus Posted March 21, 2016 I just read Soulminder by Timothy Zahn. SO good. It doesn't go too much into the technology aspect, but it's way into the fictional repercussions, which are very believable. There may be a sliiight bias, since I'm kind of becoming a Timothy Zahn fangirl, but still, good book! (I haven't read his Star Wars stuff at all, but why would I when his original ideas are so damn good?) In this household, sanity is considered a tresspasser. Talolili Posted April 18, 2016 I'm reading Miss Peregrine's Home For Peculiar Children and will start the manga Prison School after that. So far I'm on track for my Goodreads reading list of 2016 which I failed last year. It still bothers me I couldn't make my goal.
iPOUT Posted April 24, 2016 I don't know if this counts but lately I've been aimlessly reading webcomics. Currently, I've been reading Sunstone, Octopus Pie, Blindsprings, and Devil's Candy. . . And all of these webcomics are extremely different from each other. XD I've also been reading The great Beanie Baby Bubble. It's an book about the start and downfall of beanie babies, which is crazier than you think it is.

Anna-neko Posted May 7, 2016 ok so... for reasons (google Chinatsu Kurahana cover .. trust me) ... i just read the Captive Prince trilogy, and its like you're going into it with this idea of "oh .. yaoi slash-fic that started on LJ? .. oh geez" and if make it past the kink-filler meme it suddenly becomes REALLY GOOD?? It's like HBO's Game of Thrones in reverse: terrible sex violence pr0n goes away for intrigue & adventure & character development! The toxic tropes are actually done in "heeeeeeeeeellz no!" bait-and-switch, and the story gets freakin amazing in vol 2 *cough* if anyone got some AUs or they wanna share on the topic, or just spazz in key of headcanons plz hit me up! Wonderful headcanons such as such as: Counselor Vannes is on the FIRST trainSHIP to Akeilos whenever The Games are supposed to happen. Every Year. First Ticket, VIP seats OR Jord & Nikandros start a weekly drinking vent club, "k, what reckless thing your idiot King do this week". Nik is in serious danger of alcohol poisoning week of central Delpha renegotiation... OR New statue added to the pantheon at Kingsmeet: "and here is the Exalted... who committed literal murder within these sacred walls...for love!"
Neuroman Posted May 19, 2016 I have been having trouble sleeping so I've been trying to spend time with my personal library. I've been going back and reading Oishinbo, the gourmet manga that Viz released a while back. I haven't been waking up in the middle of the night! I really hope this trend continues. --F

Neuroman Posted May 20, 2016 Heh, not so much as putting me to sleep as Oishinbo gets me ready to go to sleep. It puts me into that tranquil state of mind. I'm trying to get off the computer/Internet a bit before I go to bed so I won't be in squirrel hunting for information nuts mode. I suspect this is what is contributing to me waking up at night or having weird anxiety dreams and then I wake up in the middle of the night with a start. So wait… are you saying Oishinbo put you to sleep?
Gamma Ray Posted May 21, 2016 I finished Annie On My Mind last night. I finished it within a few days, actually. It was really, really nice to see how the two girls learned about themselves and learned how they felt about each other.

etoile Posted October 8, 2016 Going to have to revive this thread back! Currently, I am reading The Woman in Cabin 10. It's fairly good and is a mystery book that I would recommend for people who usually don't read mysteries and are looking for a change of pace, as well as people who only read mystery. From the very first page, you are off and trying to figure out what is going to happen next... But I don't want to give away too much. If you likes In a Dark, Dark Wood, Gone Girl or Girl on the Train, you need to check this one out. I am also working on Simon Sebag Montefiore's The Romanovs 1613-1918, for a bit of light reading. It's fairly thorough and in depth history book about, you guessed it, the Romanov family. The whole book talks about not just interesting tidbits about the Romanovs but the forming geopolitical world and the economic consequences. Looking forward to hearing what everyone else is reading! katnaper Posted October 8, 2016 Wow etoile, Woman in Cabin 10 seems interesting. I love mystery books and my ongoing lunch read is an old book on Craig Kennedy Scientific Detective by Arthur B. Reeve. Its been slow going but interesting. Also just started The Aeronaut's Windlass by Jim Butcher. Then I have a ton of Victorian Detective series books to go through. Also if I get bored I listen to audiobooks with my current go to being Storm Siren. I like audiobooks because I can do chores while listening. Lol. We have our own BLOG. etoile Posted October 9, 2016 Oh yes, you definitely need to read Woman in Cabin 10. Just finished it and it remained just as good through out the whole thing. How is Storm Siren? I've had that on my reading list for a while but I haven't gotten around to her, yet.

kinkachou Posted November 29, 2016 Ready Player One by Ernest Kline. I started it last month (I'm a slow reader-- I forgot how to leisure read after 4 years of medical textbooks :p ) and I keep bringing it to work hoping for a quiet night where I finish early... Unfortunately that hasn't happened yet. I also need to finish House of Leaves but like 5 people have told me it gets really intense and kind of scary so I'm a little hesitant to continue it. Black lives matter.
