What can I use to smooth out vinyl?

Recommended Posts

Hi! I have a DDH 06 and she has a scruff on her face. I was trying to figure out what to use to smooth out the vinyl so that it won't look visible and feel so scruffy? Any suggestions would be appreciated!

If its visible and you can feel the scuff, I don't think coating the head would help much, I would think the only thing for it would be to sand the area smooth.

You would need an ultra fine sand paper to do this, I like both Tamiya papers and the 3m sponges for working on dd'd. You can buy good sand paper for dolls from Volks or cool cat, I would buy the lowest 3 grades of paper possible personally (the bigger the number, the better)

I have made 2 custom doh01 heads which I sanded to completly change the head shape so I know how sanding vinyl works. You want to work on the area affected with a circular motion, use a firm pressure but dont push too hard. To preserve the rest of the head/face up, work on the smallest possible area.

The only issue with this is that it may damage the face up if she has one. Is it a volks face up or a custom job? Where abouts is the mark?

If you could show a picture of the damaged head, I'm sure more people can help you, we have quite a few experienced dd artists here.

I have not personally done this but some people have reported that placing the vinyl part in the freezer firms up the vinyl and while its cold sanding is easier.
