= Upsizing your DD's Head Size =

Hi there, I noticed that some girls had a hard time finding suitable wigs because of their tiny head size, as there isn't many makers around which carries small 1/3 wig sizes. Well surely no one want their ladies to be limited to their default wig, so here's an easy 'fix' that

Limited girls sometimes do get strange head size to keep with the aesthetics of the character, but standard molds are well, standard size, so why not just borrow the standard's head cap for the limited girl in question. In my case, its KOS-MOS.

Here is the comparison of the upgrade!

11029093754_904e8993ea.jpg

If you squint hard enough, you can see how much volume is lacking in Kos' original head cap, and the silicon cap fits 07 perfectly while fully stretched.

11028936695_2435d67670.jpg

She looks way better without her ears submerged in the wig.

11029144343_02eef2950d.jpg

KOS-MOS' head measurement at the Rim is 21.5cm, while DDH-07 is 22.5cm

It might be a little tougher to squeeze the 07 head cap into Kos', but you can see from below that the difference in size is mostly at the rim and not the inner groove, so I'm not worried for any potential damages.

Getting a brand new standard head from volks doesn't cost much. Plus you can get it painted and your girl can have a new friend

I think I am going to do this for my KOS-MOS also, thank you for the awesome tip!

Wigs will fit so much better on her this way.

And suddenly I like her way more if she doesn't have her itty-bitty head. Wigs look so much better without her flat head. Though I wonder what are you going to do with the head who's missing its headcap now? Is the spare head now going to have the same problem as KOS-MOS before?

KosMos head cap will pretty much be kept away unused. Anyway, I always thought the 07 fitted the look for KosMos 2D game art better, so 07 could just share a body (and head cap!) with KosMos.

I don't see why you couldn't just put a wad of tissue paper or something similar under the silicon cap to have the same affect. Getting another head just for the headcap seems like a costly way to go about it, unless you want a DD without the headcap so you could have fake brains showing instead.

The other thing I've been trying to think about is sinching up the inside of the wig with stretchy jewelry 'thread' to fix the problem as well. Maybe even just sew the silicon cap inside the wig if it would need to come to that.

Yeah, I thought about that too, you'll have to try it and report back! I don't have Kosmos, but I'm curious :3

I think the success of a wad of tissue paper under the silicone cap is dependent on how tight the elastic of the wig cap is, though. Companies like Licht have very tight elastic, so I think it would just squeeze the cap and then pop off!

Another cheap alternative to buying a head just to steal its headcap is to sculpt one out of whatever lightweight, airdry clay you like to use. :> Cover the head in plastic wrap, make a ball that size of the head, cut it to make it fit the head, then hollow it out. Since the DD heads are soft, you can probably make some small tabs on the sculpted headcap and then use the soft head's lip to stretch over the tabs-- or you can figure out some other creative ways to keep it on.

I don't have a KOS-MOS but that's a really great idea. It's incredible how much of a difference there was when you put the wig on her! She really looks a lot better with the "upsized" head cap!

Why not just get her a 7-8" wig though? A stretchy one would likely fit her with no alterations.

Because many of us already own a collection of the larger wigs for our other girls.

How so? Blank heads are $40 or so and wigs can be priced around that level as well. I fail to see the savings.

Yes, wigs can be priced that high, or they can be priced at $25. It depends on where you get them.

Right, so if I already own such wigs (like oh, say from Volks), wouldn't it make more sense to reuse what you have?

If you were to do so without buying an extra head to steal its cap, then yes. That's the route I went with. But I'm just saying that you can get a really nice $25 7-8" wig to fit her exactly, and that would be cheaper. I'm not saying you should never use a wig you already have. But the OP commented that it's hard to find "smaller 1/3 size wigs", and with that I disagree.

I have tried my best to find inexpensive DD wigs that are still good quality and I have yet to find one that's $25. From Volks a single wig & shipping is $55. And Leekeworld is $49 for a single wig including shipping.

Besides, what one person thinks to be a simple and easy solution may not be right for another, hence there are a couple of much less expensive options already listed in the thread. I didn't want to mention it before, but I think stuffing a wad of toilet paper under the headcap would work just as well as tissue paper and it's pretty darn easy to find.

I've even used double sided sticky tape on Rainie's wig before because heaven forbid we didn't have a silicon cap! I really don't recommend it because of the residue it leaves behind is a royal pain to remove, but it did work for a time. For the wigs that we have that don't stain but still have fit issues, I've found that using hot glue on the inside really helps. Rainie and Ringo are the same head mold, their wigs were ordered as the same size and both from Leekeworld. The problem is Rainie's is super loose, and Ringo's is so tight it doesn't like to stay on. Raven got irritated that Yuriko's wig was always popping off as well, so I got tired of it and tried the hot glue trick on her wig first. On the front and back on the inside (non stretchy parts) of the wig cap, right along the edge I built up a small 'bank' of hot glue and let it cool completely before putting it on her head. It has been enough to keep her wig on securely and Raven happy. I still need to do the same for Rainie's wig. As for Ringo's, I did almost the same, but I purposely made the hot glue very thin and I put it on top of the stretchy elastic edges to keep them as wide as possible. I may have gotten a bit burnt sticking my fingers in hot glue to make sure it was pressed down and flat as it could be, but it finally fixed her wig so it stays better on her head. It's nearly impossible to get that wig to stay on with a silicon headcap simply because there isn't the room!

I can think of many, many reasons why someone wouldn't want to simply buy a wig specifically for Kos-Mos, especially when the fix for it can be pretty darn inexpensive and easy.

Wow, it a lively conversation going on here.

Okay guys think of it this way.

The point of my original post really isn't about providing savings of any kind, but more to give people a solution of getting it fitted with a standard size head to unlock a whole new selection of suitable wigs for small heads.

It is not hard to find small wig sizes, but is hard to find small 1/3 wig that I like. Clearly this got lots to do with personal preference on the cut, colour, fibre and fit we find acceptable and that's gonna vary lots between each person.

Stretchy 1/4 wigs could work, but how sure is anyone in getting a 1/4 size wig to fit pin heads like KOS-MOS? The 1/4 wig I had on hand couldn't stretch fully over her head and even if it did, the bangs are way to short for it to look any good.

Nearly all of us don't have the luxury to try out wigs before purchasing, its purely guess work or comparison to the nearest kind we have around. Instead of betting on a number of potential misses, I personally rather get her head fixed and buy sizes i'm most familiar with. And they can share it with the rest of the girls too.

This same fix can be done with various cheaper DIY method if anyone choose to (I'm sure most will work out great! keep them coming guys), but for those who doesn't want to spend the time, I'm just suggesting an option that works out of the box with no tweaking or whatsoever.

Plus if you love changing eye colors of your girls like I do, you might appreciate having less clutter on their head cap when putting it back on.

All in all it boils down to personal preference and how you intend to handle your girl. Some plan to keep their girls with only 1 wig, and others might find that their girls are already perfect right out of the box. If you are already happy with your girl as she is right now, all the suggestions this thread won't sound as useful to you.

Wow, you guys. I don't know why everyone keeps replying to my posts as though I'm arguing the point of this thread or being mean.

Well if you're going to throw in shipping then the head goes up in price too unless you happen to have one laying around with no intention of using it. I don't.

I've even used double sided sticky tape on Rainie's wig before because heaven forbid we didn't have a silicon cap! I really don't recommend it because of the residue it leaves behind is a royal pain to remove, but it did work for a time. Yes, these are all good solutions, and ones of a type that I use as well. Don't have a silicon cap? Use a skin-colored rubber band. Etc.

I can think of many, many reasons why someone wouldn't want to simply buy a wig specifically for Kos-Mos, especially when the fix for it can be pretty darn inexpensive and easy.

I only brought up expense in the first place comparing purchasing a smaller wig to purchasing a blank head. For me, it was easier to use a wig I had and a wig cap. For the OP, it was easier to use a head they had lying around.

Maybe I'm being too sensitive and I'm not being personally attacked/ridiculed. I don't know. Tone is hard to pick up properly on the internet. But when there's an entire page in a conversation picking apart anything I say it certainly seems that way. Anyone else made a suggestion and it carried on. I did and I was argued with.

The point of my original post really isn't about providing savings of any kind, but more to give people a solution of getting it fitted with a standard size head to unlock a whole new selection of suitable wigs for small heads.

Yes, I agree, and I'm sorry the thread got derailed this far. As I said, I just wanted to make a suggestion. Your way was fine for you.

Stretchy 1/4 wigs could work, but how sure is anyone in getting a 1/4 size wig to fit pin heads like KOS-MOS? The 1/4 wig I had on hand couldn't stretch fully over her head and even if it did, the bangs are way to short for it to look any good.

I'm not trying to pick on you here. I have to ask, though, where do you buy wigs that list as 1/3 or 1/4? MSDs in particular have a wide range of head sizes depending on the company. Most sites I've seen list wigs in inches, and most have the same or similar stock for 8-9" as they do for 7-8". Maybe the smaller wig you had was only a 6-7"? Or it could have been made by a company where the dolls have smaller heads, and so even though the cirbleepference is the same the depth of the cap could be smaller. It's hard to tell.

I was never trying to imply that buying a smaller wig was the only way. I did in fact mention that that is not what I did either. It was only a suggestion. And from here I give up on replying to this thread, since apparently I'm taking it off topic.

Hey Jezrah, we don't mean to discredit your idea, your comments were helpful for those who were thinking in the same line as you.

You did raise a good debatable point, and we just stated our own reasons for sticking with our methods. There is no 'right', 'wrong' or even 'best' method to go about this really. We are all for a good lively discussion here!

Ah yes, you are right. I should have made it clear, was still stuck in Taobao wig shopping mode

By 'small 1/3' I meant 8-9", and '1/4 size' is 7-8". I'm very familiar with the 6-7" sizing(I keep Yo-SDs too), so for my case, I'm sure the one tried on Kos was a 7-8"(from Dollmore) and not a 6-7"

Wigs sizes are a pickle really, especially in the 8-9" tier because each maker has their create their own standard of sizing.

Such as Korean M size(8-8.5"), and Chinese '1/3 Small head size' 20cm-22cm, while the English world simply know them as 8-9" size. Even then, makers like LeekeWorld make their 8-9" wigs closer to 9"size than 8" so you can imagine the difference of size when you compare it to a Chinese 20-22cm wig

Someone should really create a guide to explain wig sizing.

I think this is a good idea, but maybe the 03 head (Yukino) would work better since she's smallest of the standard heads?

I already bought an extra normal skin Yukino to steal her headcap for one of my other "hard vinyl" girls. I found that I was taking her head cap off a lot to fidget with her eyes and it was an absolute pain!! >__<" I gave the head to my sister to practice faceups

It may not be a bad idea to get a spare headcap for one of my KOS-MOS heads since I won't have to trim wigs to fit her "shallow" head.

I have tried my best to find inexpensive DD wigs that are still good quality and I have yet to find one that's $25. From Volks a single wig & shipping is $55. And Leekeworld is $49 for a single wig including shipping.

All LUTS wigs are $25 and they are good quality. Some people have complained that their wefts aren't layered as densely and you can see the wig cap through light fiber wigs, but this is a problem I've encountered with Leeke too. I've bought many of their wigs before and haven't experienced this problem.

They have a sale twice a year (summer and winter events) where all wig, shoe and accessories are 30% off. That's less than $18 a wig (and their plain shoes are fabulous too!). They usually announce their sales 1-2 weeks before they happen, so if you make a list of what you want, you could do a speedy group order the moment the event starts (so that things are in stock!).

Still not sure why the shipping doesn't seem to be considered part of the total cost of a wig (since you can't really get one without paying shipping...) but whatever.

Anyway, I was curious what size of the Luts shoes are right for DD & MDD size?

When it comes to buying wigs, if I buy them from a company, I either buy a lot of stuff or join a group order to save on shipping. There's no way I'd buy just one wig and pay so much shipping for it :o

Another way is to buy them secondhand, shipping costs are a lot lower that way, and usually the wig price is lower too.

Since I always did EMS as part of a group order, shipping was never more than $5-6 a person.

Kid Delf size (KDF) shoes and clothes fit MDD very well.

Senior Delf Girl size shoes and clothes fit DD's

These are LUTS shoes, and I have them in almost every color they are offered in.
