I tried registering on DoA aftering acquiring an invite code, but it didn't work. It took weeks before I received ANY news. My registration got rejected and when I send them an e-mail to ask why, they didn't respond. That was months ago. Idk, is DoA really that amazing of a website :/? I'm wondering because I've read stories that made me think they're just a bunch of elitists, but those were all negative experiences. And since I can't experience it for myself I really have no clue. I wanted to register because it seems like a great way to learn more about BJDs. Sometimes you feel a bit lost when you're new to a hobby.

I've heard of "some" people having bad experiences but those were from people who weren't that into bjds.

I've heard of many people say they have had good experiences.

I haven't recieved an email yet back from DoA and it has been about a week now.

I can't find anyone to send me an invite code though. I have tried a hand full of websites now to find just one person.

Lots of people don't want to send a stranger one because "if" i did anything bad they fear they could be banded but on their website it CLEARLY says I am the ONLY one responsible for my actions not my invitor.

It really sucks because I want in so bad and I am the kindest girl possible.

I can send you an invite if you like, just let me know your email.

DoA's got a lot of rule and regulations, but, I dunno, I like it. Most people there are friendly and informative.

Is there any possibility of getting an invite as well? I'd really love to join DOA, but it's invite only right now. I'm new to the communities and 'ownership' of a doll, as I've only got my pre-order put in for Miku next year. I'd really like to have Miku a sister ready before she gets home, and they have quite a few rehoming options, from what I've heard.

Sure, just let me know your email

Keep in mind DoA won't let you discuss transactions and stuff outside the Marketplace (it's quite different from this forum) Make sure you guys read the rules, I think they arne't hard to follow as long as you know what they are in the first place.

Just to add, you won't have access to the marketplace there until you have met the certain post count and been a member for a certain number of days. While it may seem very strict, its necessary for a forum as big as DOA and many of these transactions run from hundreds to thousands of dollars.

I've had nothing but good experiences with DOA. It is an excellent source of information for dolls and great for a new collector. It is such a big community and the moderators are trying their best to keep it a safe environment. Its inevitable that this will upset certain people and it's impossible to please everyone. ^^;

Thank you so much!

I just signed up!

I got a little scared though because one of the registration questions was "What is your favorite doll"

I don't know many dolls so I said mini dolls because that is what I am very interested.

I'm worried it is not a well enough answer though.

I am not in a big hurry to get into the market place since I don't have much money to spend "yet".

But I hope to get in the market place as soon as I can reasonably get in!

Question, have you seen mods editing/deleting a lot of posts? Or is it just on rare occasion that they have to do that?

I was hoping to send it straight to you, but I guess I can edit my post for privacy's sake later. My email is neko mama 2010 at g mail * com

(edited so it would post, due to account restrictions remove spaces, etc.)

The restrictions make perfect sense to me, as it sounds like a reasonable way to maintain order on a large community dealing with rather high priced collectibles.

They never edit someone's post, but will delete if it is inappropriate or in any fashion is breaking the rules.

They will however let you know if they do this too. So, just stick to the rules, remain on topic, and you should be fine. ^^

Also, if they see any kind of "fight" going on, they will delete those messages too (like, if they see an argument where people are...passionate about their opinion LOL)

I don't think people worrying about getting banned is the only reason, theres the moral aspect to it as well.

For me personally, I would not have given anyone an invite just because they asked for it. For all I know, you may be wanting to get in there so you can work up to the market place and then start scamming people. You could be a nasty little troll, or one of those people who set out purely to cause a scene and stir up drama, hoping it drags other people down with you.

Now I'm not saying that I think you will go do anything of those things, but I also have nothing to prove that you won't. Even though if I invited someone who did do the above things, it would not result in me being punished, I would still feel bad on a personal level for letting that kind of person in.

I personally love DOA. I have never been involved in drama, hating or trolling there. I have never been scammed or cheated and the mods have ALWAYS been polite and helpful when I've needed them, even when I've accidentally broken the rules without realising. I think DOA is a good place and I want to help keep it that way. For me, that is why I don't hand out invites to anyone who asks for one.

I've recently joined DoA and honestly from what I've seen of the members so far they all seem like really friendly people. I'm obviously a newbie there but people still respond to my posts with the same shared excitement that they would with more senior members. So I wouldn't call the community elitist as a whole (not to say there aren't any, but I have yet to see evidence of this). I better warn you though, interacting with the DoA forums will double, no, triple your doll wishlist, and you will find yourself wanting all the dolls from all the companies omg

I had just signed up though and am waiting to hopefully be accepted.

There was a question though during registration asking "What is your favorite type of doll"

Is it possible to answer wrong?

I am worried cause I didn't say a specific model or company, just "mini dolls" because I don't know any brands yet, all I know is I really love the mini dolls in a whole.

Is it possible to answer it wrong and not get accepted?

I don't know if I am over reacting or not haha. I am so nervous!!

I understand exactly what you're saying and it is completely rational!

I understand how you feel because I would feel EXACTLY the same.

The only hard part is that we are on opposite sides.

Even though I understand where you are coming from I am on the other side so I know I am a good person so I am just sitting begging at the door waiting for someone to leave it open for me haha.

For the most part I will be lurking for a year or two until I can kick start my own small "store".

Oh thank goodness. I was afraid they might be over baring and editing every little thing.

I think I might have trouble staying "on topic" though because it seems to be like a very specific thing.

I am afraid I might break that rule because it sounds so vague but I don't know if I am over analyzing it.

Well, I've been wanting to own a bjd for a couple of years, so I knew about a few companies already. So I listed a couple of dolls on my wishlist, and they accepted my application the very next day. I don't know what their criteria is though? Maybe it's just a way to see if you're a spambot or something lol

It can be hard to tell if someone is trustworthy or not... I even met someone in person who seemed very nice, but I later found out they were a bad flake and a liar :/

Personally, I think if someone wants to join a forum, why shouldn't they? When I joined DoA registration was open, all I had to do was sign up. It's not some special club that needs to be hyper vigilant about who gets in and who doesn't, it's just a forum for bjd lovers. The rules are just to keep things in order since there are so many people and money is being exchanged.

As others have already answered, no, I don't see them editing posts. But yes, if there are very rude or mean comments made, they will delete them. But never without letting the poster know why it was deleted.

In certain forums, really old threads with no new comments will be deleted simply to save on space (e.g., finished sales threads which will only be kept for a certain length of time for reference before being purged from the system). The OP of these threads will also be notified upon deletion.

I think partially, the elitist feel that some people claim to get comes from people feeling butthurt when their thread gets very little comments, and more well-known members get tons of comments. But I mean, that happens in every online community and its a natural inclination for people to talk more with people that are more active and they are "friends" with online.

It is mostly that, and because they want to see that you understand what sort of forum you are signing up for. You'd be surprised how many people put pullips on their list, end up denied, and act like it is a big surprise. Those aren't ABJD. ^^;;; It is seen as a waste of space to let in a member that isn't even listed in the dolls the forum promotes, right?

(That was a fun story I got directly from a mod a while back--the fun part of living in an area with two mods, and a virtue. XD)

Gunter oh lol that sounds hilarious and also so sad at the same time. I'm glad my answers were approved. Pullips... I honestly don't know what kind of doll those are, I've only glimpsed store stock images.

@Milk (I like shortening usernames, but the temptation to add "chan" at the end of that...)

Pullips are Fashion Dolls. They are like Barbie and Monster High (I am gonna disregard there are like a billion and one fashion doll companies).

Though you can change out their eyes...or something like that.

Pullips are pretty interesting actually xD They all come out with their own " chara full set" and have different faces and make up. You can indeed change the eyes and wig too, I believe (I don't think they were rooted but I might be wrong). I want a couple myself xD
