I'm not saying it's right or wrong, good or bad but the DoA "invite" system is a very low maintenance way to prevent spambots from registering. Some admin just has to go through invites every once in a while (when they feel like it) rather than culling through hundreds of daily registrations looking for real members.

The Parabox forum has an open (automated) registration system and was small and quiet with under 25,000 members. Then back in September 2013 some bots got a hold of the forum's address and now the membership has ballooned up to over 220,000. Legitimate traffic hasn't increased, just spam posts.

Mods will only clean up what they genuinely believe is off topic or needs ro be cleaned up. I have been a mwmber of DoA since 2005 ish. I have also been an avid user of the marketplace, it is definitely a nice place to have access to because it is a HUB for all forms of bjd products.

I was sent an invite to DoA and so far I've been stuck in "Moderation Queue" for a week. I suppose that's not a long time to wait compared with others who have posted their troubles on here. I hope I'm not rejected as I really want to shop their marketplace.

Aubzy, did you activate your mail already? A friend of mine had waited for a while till she logged into DoA and saw the banner on top telling her to please check her mails.

Sometimes you need to re-send it, had that with another friend who never got the activation mail.

Dangit! I trashed the DoA emails and now they've been deleted completely out of my trash box. How can I resend the request?

When I login into DoA it says:

"Thank you for registering! Your account is currently in the Moderation Queue, waiting to be checked and approved by a Moderator. This may take some time, so please be patient."

 

It's had that same message ever since I sent the invite request I received from a friend.

Ok I've logged in again and it still shows the same message.

Good news for me today! I've finally been accepted into DoA.

Unfortunately for anyone trying to invite your friends or people looking for someone to invite them I have a bit a unlucky news for you. Here's the moderator's message:

 

While we're working on the software migration, the registration module has had to be closed for about a month. The closure took place the evening of 8/14.

 

The Invitation tab has been removed from the top of the page now, but a number of you sent out invitations between 8/14 and yesterday. The recipients would have received the invite but won't be able to use it at this time.

 

The best thing to do for right now is tell anyone you want to join the forum that they should send an email to our forum mailbox at denofangels@gmail.com, and we will keep their emails as a waiting list for when registration opens again.

Haha, I realised I have been a DoA member for 11 years now. And I still actually check it regularly.

 

Things have completely changed recently with the whole hobby, and it was bound to affect the forum too.. the forum is so big it offers a degree of anonymity to be a jerk. You don't have to worry about pleasing people if you're not going to bump into them regularly. So now I mostly use smaller forums just for the basic manners.

 

For example, this forum, where in general everyone is really polite and good spirited. It's nice ;_;

I'd like to join at least to be able to lurk...it bugs me that you can't see the forum at ALL without an an account It's just one reason why I like this forum here so much - I joined because I really liked what I saw from the community.

The mystery of what lies within DoA does add to the appeal in a way though.

I know the feeling. I'm kinda curious about whats on there. At the same time the limited membership thing kinda gives it a vibe of exclusion. I get why they do it but all the same. The occasional drama stories don't help it feel welcoming. One thing I like about this forum is how friendly everyone is!

I've just answered my own question. I dug a little deeper into the FAQ on DoA and here's what it says:

Registration is closed until the transition to the new server/platform is completed and fully functional. We hope to have registration reopening some time in December.

Well, that's too bad! I really hope they do away with the invite system in the future. I know they set it up to avoid spammers, but it'd be nice if it didn't have to be that way. That said, if they still require invites once they reopen reg, I will gladly send them to anyone who wants one!

I'm on Den of Angels, is there a sizable Dollfie Dreams presence on there? I am not too into Super Dollfie or other BJD houses, but I respect them.

I've only been a member of DoA for less than a year, and there are so few Dollfie Dream posts that I feel out of place talking about them. I know they're technically allowed, but it just seems all about the resin over there.
