LucyInTheMud Posted December 27, 2013 I've retired from dressmaking and wanted to continue my art by designing and sewing clothes for dolls. When I first saw a Dollfie, I, like many of you, was enchanted by how lovely they are and knew that's who I wanted to make dresses for. I've read the forum on how to acquire a Dollfie, but I'm confused about the differences between types and the sizes. Is there a type that most people buy? Are they comparable in size to another sort of doll (I'm asking because I'd like to start buying materials and I'd like to get the correct scale of things.) Also, if I buy a Dollfie from a private seller, are there 'fake' Dollfies that I should beware of? I'm sorry to ask such basic questions, but I'm new to this. Thank you! Minuette Posted December 28, 2013 No need to apologize for asking! If you don't know anything about dolls at all it can be very confusing! A good place to start on finding out the differences between Dollfie Dream bodies is this topic by our very own baldylox! There's more information than is just on the first post, too, so make sure to read the whole thing! The regular Dollfie Dream and the Dynamite bodies are both 58cm tall. That's about 22 inches. I believe the Mini Dollfie Dream is 40cm (~18 inches), and the Sister body is 50cm (~20 inches), but I do not remember off the top of my head. Most people seem to go for the plain ol' Dollfie Dream, but it is entirely up to you which you want! All the basic heads fit all the bodies, so just have fun with your first girl :3! Unfortunately I can't think of any dolls you could get in a store that are comparable. Most dolls I know of are 18 inches, but here's the interesting thing: because of the way the dolls are designed (American Girl, for example), they require larger props to look in scale, ergo many props created for these lines of dolls work for Dollfie Dreams as well. As far as fake DDs, they aren't "recast", so you don't have to worry about knockoffs, so to speak, but there are plenty of off-brands that make their own heads and aftermarket pieces. Though, if you are looking at the SQLabs brand, do be careful because those are recasted, I know for sure. Is there anythind else you want to know? I hope I did a good job answering your questions! sleepywolf Posted December 28, 2013 To help avoid any confusion I guess it's also worth mentioning that while alot of people refere to Dollfie Dream dolls as Dollfies, the true meaning of the 'Dollfie' term referes to another series of dolls, also made by Volks. The (true) Dollfies are 1/6 scale (Dollfie Dreams are 1/3 scale). foo Posted December 28, 2013 I remember looking at the Volks USA site and seeing all the types that show up when you click Dollfie Dream and wondered... why??? what's the difference??? baldylox's post will help, but to summarize what the dolls are, the 'normal' doll is the Dollfie Dream, which is at its third version. So Dollfie Dream I (these are ancient), Dollfie Dream II (recently retired), and Dollfie Dream III. Then there's the Dollfie Dream Dynamite (DDdy), which is a more curvaceous body, and Dollfie Dream Sister (DDS), which is just an alternative to the normal Dollfie Dream body that's slightly smaller and younger looking. There's also Mini Dollfie Dream (MDD), which is like a child's body, but still 1/3 scale to match the others. Each of the bodies support different bust sizes, but M and L are the oldest and probably most popular. If you're starting out to make clothing, you'd probably want to start with something that fits DD 2 & 3 bodies (which are mostly the same unless you're making tight-fitting clothing), with M or L busts. That said, enthusiasts would be really really happy if you made clothes for sizes other than that, like S busts and DDdy, because there's not as much selection for that.
