waha Posted January 3, 2014 I made an interesting discovery today, one of my DDS girls had a foot snap, and while I wait for a replacement from Volks I decided to "borrow" a foot from my mom's DD3 as it's only really used to test out clothes on... and that is when I made the discovery: The DD3 foot doesn't match the DDS one, it's larger and has less movement. I took two photos to illustrate the difference, the left foot is a DD3 foot from an Aoko body, and the right one is a DDS foot from a Nanami body: As you can see the DD3 foot has more vinyl covering the joint, and it can't do the extra movement below the joint that the DDS foot can (For better probably, seeing as that's where the other foot snapped). After some research it turns out some really old DDS bodies have similar feet to the DD3 one (my Milhi body does for example), but none of my more recent ones do. Looking at the product photos on Volks International the DDS feet are identical to my DDS foot. And all three colors of the DD3 feet look the same as my DD3 foot. Makes me wonder when they made the change, and why? I can understand it being a bit more slimmer seeing as the DDS has the slimmer legs already, but the extra movement puzzles me as the old foot can do that movement but above the joint instead of below... Another difference I noticed is that it seems the peg from the leg can go further into the DDS foot, thus making the DDS shorter.
Yukamina Posted January 3, 2014 I noticed this on my DDS the other day as well... I was playing with her feet and was like, "wait I thought DD couldn't do this?" I think DDS foot has more mobility, but that makes me wonder why DD3 feet aren't also like that. The DDS foot can twist at different angles that are a bit more natural in my opinion. The DDS foot can twist at different angles that are a bit more natural in my opinion. Agreed. But keep in mind it's also another source of something that can break. The part that snapped off looked very thin to me so as usual I think Volks has under-dimensioned it. But I guess it's fine as long as you're super careful when removing very tight socks (that's my problem, I wasn't...)
Galvatim Posted January 4, 2014 The DDII foot has that articulation point, too. There's a thread about hidden joints hidden somewhere on this board where I have some photos of it. The best way to pose it is to actually remove the foot, and rotate it with the hinge joint at a bit of an angle. Since the DDS foot looks a little easier to pose, it should be a little more useful. It's troubling to hear that the joint snapped, though.
galatia9 Posted January 4, 2014 Here's a hidden joints thread -- Galvatim, you started it!! viewtopic.php?f=8&t=111 I've used the elbows on my girls, but not the ankle. I was JUST wondering yesterday about their ankle mobility!! Going to look... EDIT: The ball in the DDII feet rotates in the socket, allowing you to switch from front to back rotation to side to side rotation. It seems you can only have one or the other, not both simultaneously. If you wiggle the ball around in the socket, it becomes freer and is easy to reposition. And as Galvatim said, it's easiest to do when the foot is detached from the leg. waha Posted January 4, 2014 Interesting. I've never really looked much at the hidden DD2 joint stuff as I've never really had any girls on DD2 bodies for long periods of time. It does make me wonder why Volks decided to change the DDS feet though.
galatia9 Posted January 5, 2014 Maybe the vinyl from the DDS calf comes down further, to cover the ankle ball?
