dreamcore Posted August 7, 2011 Hello fellow Dollfie Dreamers! I'm a part-time college student and full-time US Navy sailor living out in beautiful Hawaii, and I recently gained an interest in Dollfie Dreams. I haven't adopted my first daughter yet, but I have a few ideas in mind. I started thinking about getting into this hobby when I noticed how much thought is put into these dolls when they are photographed; you can really tell that the photographer cares about his daughter, and wants to dress her in the cutest clothes and take pictures of her in the cutest poses. While looking at pictures of various models I fell in love with the Kousaka Tamaki character model (but not with the stock wig and outfit), and now I'd do anything to adopt one. I plan on starting with something cheaper and easier to obtain in the mean time, such as Yukino, though, but one of these days I know I'll have to find Tamaki, or I'll never be at peace! I look forward to appreciating Dollfie Dreams with all of you from here on out!
mitsuki Posted August 7, 2011 Welcome, dreamcore! You sound like you will be a wonderful parent. Good luck on your brave quest to adopt a Tamaki. She is a lovely girl! I am looking forward to hearing more about your DD plans. I hope you enjoy it here.
dreamcore Posted August 7, 2011 Thanks! When I first saw her, I couldn't figure out which character she was, and I had to do a ton of searching. Eventually, I found the full listing of limited runs and did some face matching, then did a search on the internet to see how much she would cost me...I'm sure you can imagine my surprise when I found out how expensive she was... But in the end, I can't lie to myself, I have to have her! I also want to try my hand at sewing my own clothes. I have some experience sewing cosplay, so hopefully I'll be able to transfer that experience and make something nice...
PrettyCranium Posted August 7, 2011 Welcome! I hope you find your Tamaki one day. I know exactly what you mean -- I just found Tamaki after a long, extensive search because I too could not stop thinking about her. A warning: she was very expensive. I will keep my eyes open for another Tamaki to help you out, since we have both fallen for her. I also didn't like her stock wig or know anything about her character. Here's how my Tamaki looks now: P1020774 by PrettyCranium, on Flickr Have you considered getting an SQ-Labs custom head? They have a head that is very similar to Tamaki's sculpt and a LOT more affordable. I almost bought that head myself before I stumbled on the Tamaki I bought. Here's an example of the SQ Labs head made up (MotokoYamato's DD): Ryoko's Day in. by Motoko Yamamoto, on Flickr Face-up done by Hikaru132. In any case, I'm sure you'll be happy if you start with another girl and work your way up to saving for Tamaki. You will find out quickly that it's really hard to have just one DD! baldylox Posted August 7, 2011 Welcome aboard! Glad to have someone in the military that appreciates the Dollfies! Thank you for your service, I appreciate all that you do for us here back home. You do sound like you'll make a good DD parent. You're completely right about being able to tell mood and feeling in peoples pictures of their daughters. You can see it easily in some. Feel free to ask any questions you need and have fun finding your first DD! Billy I gave up counting the girls I own, they keep multiplying and won't stop. baldylox Posted August 7, 2011 Not all of us in the hobby are "he" ^_~ there seems to be many "she" around here! Indeed. In the North American market, it seems to be almost an even split on male/female owners. Whereas overseas it's almost all males. I'm happy that more females are into DD's over here. It makes for a more interesting mix of backgrounds and characters for the girls to develop from. Billy I gave up counting the girls I own, they keep multiplying and won't stop. Wow, she's beautiful! You're very lucky! I don't think I'll be ready for a custom head for a few more years now, and I would always be disappointed that it wasn't what I really fell for in the beginning. Thanks for the suggestion, though! I do like the cat ears on the SQ Labs website, though... Welcome aboard! Glad to have someone in the military that appreciates the Dollfies! I might try to contact a few and see if I can't organize some kind of DD meetup after I've adopted and gotten to know my first girl. Not all of us in the hobby are "he" ^_~ there seems to be many "she" around here! Welcome to the forums ^_^ Heh, are you referring to how I portrayed the photographer as a he? I guess I was just following the inherent sexism in the English language and defaulting to he for someone of indeterminate gender ┐('~`;)┌ Thanks for the warm welcome, everyone! AerisAquata Posted August 7, 2011 On gender neutral pronouns, one should use Zie and hir/zir. EX. Zie is very nice/Zir coat is purple. Yay for a new member of the community! I wish you luck in your endeavors to find your unicorn!

OtakuDepot Posted August 10, 2011 Hi dreamcore!!!! Welcome to our little group. Unfortunately I can't help much with Tamaki but since you mentioned Yukino I feel I have to say she's a wonderful girl. I changed the eyes on my Yukino since they needed to be blue for when she cosplays as Alicia from Aria the Animation. I also got her a wig from Leekeworld (color = goldenrod): I really love her! I also wanted to say thank you for your service in the military. I know many people may not agree with why the government has the U.S. involved in certain areas around the world but I'm sure we all support those who are there. **James. PrettyCranium Posted August 11, 2011 Dreamcore, figure.fm user SaberJess is selling her Tamaki for $2000. Email her about her!!! Edit: she hasn't listed Tamaki on her Figure.fm post, but tweeted about her. Probably worth emailing her to let her know that you are interested.
dreamcore Posted August 11, 2011 Thanks for letting me know! I can't reply in a PM yet since I don't have 20 posts. Is $2000 a good price for a used Tamaki? How much does a new Tamaki usually go for? Thanks again for letting me know about the Tamaki!
PrettyCranium Posted August 11, 2011 $2000 is a pretty good price, but keep in mind that her Tamaki might have stains (in fact, I think it does have some stains on the head that are covered by the wig, if I remember her previous figure.fm post. My Tamaki, bought just a few weeks ago, was new in box and cost . . . Um . . . Well, more. I'll be happy to tell you her exact price by private message or email. Go get your post count up! Yukino looks really good with blue eyes and a blonde wig! I was thinking about giving her blue eyes once I got her, as well. Thanks for the warm welcome! It's nice to be in a place that appreciates military members rather than criticizes them.
dreamcore Posted August 11, 2011 Well, I noticed today that Volks USA had Yukino in stock again, so I went ahead and ordered her...then proceeded to go on a clothing shopping rampage across the internet, leaving no survivors and barely any funds left in my bank account... DD is going to be the death of me...
PrettyCranium Posted August 11, 2011 Yay, congrats (about Yukino, not the ravaged wallet)!

I always have fun doing that too but the aftermath of the "shock and awe" sometimes stings a bit. DD's won't be the death of you but they WILL cause you near death experiences quite often!
