Spookyboo Posted January 5, 2014 This year is the year I'm going to finish my three main girls but as I'm planning I realise I want them all to have the DDH-03 head. I see everyone else's collection and they have a wide variety of heads and I even have a DDH-06 head but I'm planning on selling it because no other head apeals to me like the DDH-03 head. I feel like it would be weird though (unless I make them sisters) What do you guys think? Nekopon Posted January 5, 2014 I don't think it's weird at all to be in love with a certain head mold! The 03 is actually a very versatile head and can be made to look completely different with various custom face ups! Sisters would totally be cute. Here are some examples: Sweetbeandango - DDh03 by hikaru132 (very busy!), on Flickr Relaxing Day...Yukino by OTTO BOY, on Flickr DD Yukino by Ausra's Vampires, on Flickr 白ゆきのさん02 by mujip, on Flickr 正統派微少女ゆきのさん04 by mujip, on Flickr ArcueidCannon - DDh03 by hikaru132 (very busy!), on Flickr I also have a big obsession with a particular head mold, the 06. These are my 06 girls. There's two more that are not in this photo. My 06 Girls by Miss Nekopon, on Flickr
Yukamina Posted January 5, 2014 I don't think it's weird either I've got two DDH06s, two DDH01s, and two Lucys. And I'd totally love to have more 01s in the future. My Etsy Shop ~~~ My DeviantArt
Spookyboo Posted January 5, 2014 Oh all your 06 girls are adorable! Thanks you guys for answering, I figured it was a silly question but it was kind of a road block in my dolly plans (^_^;) hopefully I can finish them soon so I can share them with everyone Wilhemina (WS 03 DDdy) Jezebelle (DD Alice Kuonji custom DDdy) Mariette (DD Mariko custom DDdy)
Crystaltiger Posted January 5, 2014 Like others have said, I don't think its strange at all! Each girl is unique and you will be able to tell them apart instantly! User Animagic4u has 2 beautiful 04 girls, Rei and Mikila, that both have awesome personalities that set them apart from each other. Here is a link to a post she has over on FFM. http://www.figure.fm/en/post/49404/Rain+Dance+Party.html So if you love 03s and feel drawn to them, go for it! ~Can't wait to see your girls~
baldylox Posted January 6, 2014 As everyone else has said, it's not a weird thing to have multiples of the same head set up as totally different girls! I myself have LOTS of 01 head girls as it's my favorite DD head. I also have multiples of the 02, 03 and 04 heads. Since you're interested in the 03, here's the two I own: This is Chizuru: DSC_1345 by balldylox, on Flickr And this is a default Yukino: DSC_6892 by balldylox, on Flickr Billy I gave up counting the girls I own, they keep multiplying and won't stop. Poofiemus Posted January 6, 2014 It's not weird at all. (Look at Billy's army of 01s! ) In fact, Volks has actually done it before! Erika, Feena, and Estelle all have the same head, though they may not be the best example; they were relatively early DDs and have pretty similar faceups. Fate and Nanoha have the same head too; the difference between them is most pronounced in their blush and their mouth paint. (If I had both girls I'd go nab a shot for you, but I only have the one, and I'm having trouble finding a good side-by-side comparison out on the interwebs.) Moe and Natsuki are also the same head. In their case it's the eyelashes that are different. And of course there's the Sabers. There's little difference between Alter 1 and 2 besides blush, but there's the skintone difference between them and Saber Classic, and Saber Extra has a drastically different faceup and feel. (Lily is an entirely different head for some reason, so she doesn't count. Oh, this one is awesome! She's probably the most Agatha-esque of any other 03 I've seen I think. Here's some shots of Agatha over the years, for comparison. Going backwards in time for fun! Her current faceup soon after I did it, sans glasses: The first real Agatha faceup she had: And the faceup she had when I first got her: And this is all just the same doll! If there's this much variety lurking in one 03, then you can definitely have a lot of fun coaxing different aspects out of multiples. Though if you're concerned about people getting confused, having other things besides faceup that are different will also go a long way: different eyes, different wigs (especially color), and different clothing styles will all help make it clear who each girl really is. In this household, sanity is considered a tresspasser.
Shailara Posted January 6, 2014 Personally, I'm not too fond of having the same mold for more than one character (except if they are related), but with DDs, there's not THAT much differences you can get and they can look very different depending on how they're painted / modded? So it should be okay if you have the same mold for three characters xD (\_/) ( ' .' ) ( uu)

DDs are like that too! My Etsy Shop ~~~ My DeviantArt
SisterKyoya Posted January 11, 2014 I don't blame you for wanting all 03 heads... It's been my favorite sculpt from the start! If you want all the same head sculpt, it is really up to you. If someone else doesn't like it, why should it be your problem? It is a hobby so just do what makes you happy, there are no 'correct' rules. I really love the versatility of the 03 head. When I first got mine I heard tons of comments about how it was a 'sad' sculpt. My Tamayuki is very rarely sad and spends much of his time giggling. I love all my DD, but he is my little prince who still keeps me smiling after almost two years. And here he is with his brother (modded 01) Ralph who refuses to grow his hair out. This is what I really love about DD. They allow all sorts of variety and all it takes is some creativity. For quite some time many people in the hobby expressed their doubts that a boy DD could be made from the existing sculpts. To my own satisfaction I have quietly proven them wrong. I am currently trying to finish 2 more, Lucas (modded 05) Kiyoteru (07), but there are many others on my list I want to convert into boys including: Rin Tohsaka, Yui Hirasawa, Haruka Amami, 06, Saber Extra, and more 01, 03, & 07 boys. My point really is not to worry about what others might find acceptable and just enjoy your DD. We all love DD here, and they are so much fun to share! ~Sister Kyoya Forum Blog: Badger Pocket Tales (Family story from the beginning) | { Old Family story reboot: Start Here! } Follow me on Twitter, Flickr & Instagram
knc Posted April 10, 2014 A faceup can change a doll a lot. You can have many of the same head mold and have them all look very different! Not to mention, it's YOUR doll collection and you can have whatever dolls you want as long as it makes you happy!
gaiaswill Posted April 10, 2014 Volks themselves do this occasionally: Moe & Natsuki are the same mold. Feena, Estel & Erika are the same mold. Magical Ruby & Miko are the same mold. (If you permit counting Magical Ruby as a separate character.) Saber, both Saber Alters & Saber Extra are the same mold. (Though least surprising and subtle differences exist.) Sometimes they do this on the resin side as well.
Sturmhornisse Posted April 10, 2014 Miko (standart model) and Magical Ruby (limited prepainted head) are DDH-06 if I am not wrong! All standart models have standart heads... Not sure about MDD standart model Rena.
Cauldroness Posted April 10, 2014 Rena has DDH-01 Head Aoi has a DDH-02 Head Yukino has a DDH-03 Head Mayu has a DDH-04 Head Miko has a DDH-06 Head Only DDH-05 and DDH-07 haven't been released as standard models (although DDH-05 was used for Kyoko, Yumi, & Sirius). DDH-02 was also used for both Rei Ayanami releases in additional to Aoi. Other repeats? SisterKyoya Posted April 10, 2014 Not sure about MDD standart model Rena. Rena is a DDH-01. I really don't see the problem with having multiples of a single sculpt. Quite by accident almost half of our DD are 01 heads. It is Raven's favorite sculpt, and he's planning on adding Rena at some point too. Just because it is the same sculpt doesn't mean that our girls are identical. ~Sister Kyoya Forum Blog: Badger Pocket Tales (Family story from the beginning) | { Old Family story reboot: Start Here! } Follow me on Twitter, Flickr & Instagram
Sturmhornisse Posted April 10, 2014 Not sure about MDD standart model Rena. Rena is a DDH-01. ~Sister Kyoya Ahhh, thanks I knew all beside Rena and didn't want to say anything I am not sure about! (I am not that much into MDD) But yeah nothing wrong with owning the same head sculpt more as one time. I also own the limited head sculpt of Alice with the same face up twice (even if I don't need a third one XD) and I am kind of tempted for a second Mariko. As long as you enjoy I would have no worries
Kymera Posted April 12, 2014 I can only speak as a resin collector, but no i don't think it's wierd at all to love a particular head and own many of them. I have 2 full Loongsoul Emily dolls and a third floating head that I plan on turning into a guy one of these days. The two girls aren't related (they're painted very differently) and are actually lovers. Owned by: Kitsuko (Fox-face) - DDH-
