SisterKyoya Posted January 9, 2014 Well if it is male DDs that they would release, SK and me might be in big trouble, especially if they release anyone with glasses on I, for one, would be like "Here's my money! Take it and hand that boy over!" Big trouble? Naw, it would be a huge relief! I'm tired of being so utterly wishy-washy about what body size I want for Kiyoteru, and I'd be totally in (happy) tears for Tama to be a real DD boy as I've always wanted him to be. I don't think Lucas would care either way although a DD version would have much prettier joints. Ralph I don't think would change at all, I think he prefers to be a hybrid like his big sis Rainie (Ringo is still undecided on the issue.) As it is I've already sold my soul to my DD addiction, making me start a business to support the habit... So in that respect it wouldn't change a thing other than my money going towards Volks instead of Obitsu. I am trying so hard not to think about in-depth about what a DD boy from Volks would look like, I've got too many things to do to be distracted! I'd nearly die if they made a Tiger DD male, especially because he doesn't have a bishonen body type. If they did though I'd pray that it was a pre-order, then I could get two and use his body for Kiyoteru! As for the megane... they are my kryptonite... such lovely, snarky, adorable kryptonite... I'm excited to hear what the news will finally be (when will we know???) but I'm not really expecting it to be DD boys. Partially as a self defense mechanism so if it isn't I won't be too surprised, but companies never seem to do what I hope they will. 1/6 scale stuff would be pretty awesome because I have Dolly and 4 more of his size (body replacements), but knowing my luck it will be more resin type stuff because that's what I'm least interested in from Volks. Dang, I really hate bursting my own happy balloon, but it's better than being devastated later because things didn't turn out like I expect. ~Sister Kyoya Forum Blog: Badger Pocket Tales (Family story from the beginning) | { Old Family story reboot: Start Here! } Follow me on Twitter, Flickr & Instagram

If not, then summer. Well, Volks has a history of doing what customers are seeking for. Volks started to sell male SDs after they heard many owners started to mod the female bodies into males. Many DD fans wanted a flat chested bust, which eventually came in just last year. So, I am pretty sure if they acknowledge the fact that there are requests for male DDs, then chances are likely, whether it is in the near or far in the future. Don't lose hope, just keep our damn fingers crossed like we are insane! Website | Doll blog | deviantART | pixiv

DarkAvenger696 Posted January 9, 2014 I would be in big trouble if its a male DD I sooo want one! but are you sure this isn't just related to the releases in Japan of the DD base bodies for DDS, DDDY and MDD?
baldylox Posted January 9, 2014 Even though everyone knows I'm adamant about NEVER adding a male doll of ANY kind to my DD family, I will say this.... *IF* and I mean this as a BIG *IF*... *IF* Volks were to make a male DD and they released either Gilgamesh from the "Fate" series or Sesshomaru from "Inuyasha", then and ONLY THEN would I consider getting one. And the only real reason I'd get either is for their swords and/or armor. I can just imagine one of my girls swinging around Tetsaigua or wearing Gil's armor! Soooo friggin cool! And if Gil was made, he would catch so much hell on a daily basis from my girls. Altho, his "Carnival Phantasm" self shows us that he'd actually enjoy that type of thing. That is all for now. It's either those two or no one. NO BOYS! Billy PS. I have no clue about what Volks is coming out with and unless it's DD related, I really won't care what they release as it won't affect me or my wallet. I gave up counting the girls I own, they keep multiplying and won't stop.
SisterKyoya Posted January 9, 2014 Baldylox: The man who can't resist the vinyl. IF you ever end up with an extra Volks boy body that you are trying to eliminate find a new home for, I know one little boy who would nearly trade our house to have him move in with us. Especially if he came via his Uncle BillyBear. Come to think of it though, if that ever did happen our house would be as peaceful as if Kaylus came and lived with us... (aka not at all.) Oh well, gotta have someone keep Lucas on his toes. ~Sister Kyoya Forum Blog: Badger Pocket Tales (Family story from the beginning) | { Old Family story reboot: Start Here! } Follow me on Twitter, Flickr & Instagram
katnaper Posted January 9, 2014 Gilgamesh! Gilgamesh! If Volks ever makes him, he better darn well be a pre-order, same as with any other male DD they produce Then they should make Kirito and I'll be all over that too. Poor Kaylus willnot like having all that competition though... his titleof DD Cassanova will be on the line. We have our own BLOG. Crystaltiger Posted January 10, 2014 I think a male DD line is possible, mainly because of the Snk/AoT hype and the previous requests for a male DD. Doll company Dolks released their images and preorders for their super dollfie like, resin Levi and lots of fans expressed their disappointments with his face sculpt, face-up, and mainly his price. I can see Volks "saving the day" for fan girls and fan girls of other possible male DDs by announcing this male DD project (or whatever they would chose to call the Male Vinyl line) and making Levi their first guy. Although I hope not because my Levi shrine is in the works and I can't afford a DD of him right now. lol Regardless of what they choose to make I can see it being Vinyl related since DDs and other company's vinyl dolls are so popular at this time and Volks would prefer to stay on top. lol
Shailara Posted January 11, 2014 I think the people who liked IOS 's Levi were more than the people who were disappointed. Resin seems to still be the most popular plastic so far. Well see tough :3 (\_/) ( ' .' ) ( uu)
Milkbiscuit Posted January 11, 2014 If they had announced it a bit more in advance from the actual preorder period I would definitely have tried to get the Dolks Levi. Resin dolls still seems the majority in the doll world, though. Hmm maybe they'll make a hybrid human/animal type doll? I'd be happy with a dd male line though, would definitely dedicate all my hobby energy to Volks if that were the case. misskale Posted January 12, 2014 I still think it's going to be a non-human line. Things like elves/centaurs/fawns. There are a few companies that do them that have good business.
Kalpn Posted January 12, 2014 Thinking that Volks didn't even have the capacity to keep their most basic items stocked in their store, creating a whole new line (male DD) that can potentially make the supplies come even slower. But it will also be safer for my wallet since I am not interested in male DD, considering that there are too many DD that I want atm.
SisterKyoya Posted January 12, 2014 I'm actually starting to wonder if keeping things slightly out of stock is part of their business model. If everything is always available then there wouldn't be the scramble to snatch it while it is there, possibly reducing their sales slightly. As far as I've seen, Volks has never made an apology for things being out of stock (even with the Saber body shortage) so it does make me wonder if they do it on purpose, and somewhat creating a market that drives up demand because of the 'scarcity'. I really do not understand why people mentioning about if Volks did male DD, it seems to be perceived that it would somehow turn into the ruin of the company. Its like assuming that Ken (and his buddies) are taking over the potential sales for Barbie. It just isn't going to happen because it is the girls that people most want. If Volks ever does vinyl guys, at most it would a sideline to make people like me happy. My own personal collection would have more guys than girls, because that's what my interest in anime is. I don't see why having males would spell doomsday for Volks, especially because their company can always expand. Who knows, maybe they are starting a new line because they think they have too much production from the existing ones, so adding a line would continue to increase their sales while dropping the supply. ~Sister Kyoya Forum Blog: Badger Pocket Tales (Family story from the beginning) | { Old Family story reboot: Start Here! } Follow me on Twitter, Flickr & Instagram
SakuraDreams Posted January 12, 2014 I'm actually starting to wonder if keeping things slightly out of stock is part of their business model. They can purposefully restrict supply to change the supply:demand ratio. That way they create an artificial scarcity. The same thing happens with diamond, gold and oil production. You think diamonds are that expensive because they're rare? No. They're that expensive because where diamonds are mined only cartels are given mining rights (such as De Beers). They then restrict how many diamonds they release on the market. They're not as scarce as people think. They just hoard them away. OPEC controls oil prices that way too. Volks' stuff already goes at 50% plus markup in the after market. Even second hand stuff usually sells above retail - not even limited ed stuff - unless it's very damaged. At home: DD Sakura Shinguji, DDS Yukiho Hagiwara, DD Asuna, DD Rina Ogata, DDS MOMO, DDS Ranko Kanzaki. Waiting for: Hatsune Miku Preordered: Ranka Lee Countdown to Hatsune Miku. I am in absolutely no way or no form that everybody who is against male DDs are those denizens at all. Everybody is entitled their opinion, this site is a democracy, so we can say whatever the hell we want as long as we don't insult or put-down others unless one is being completely unreasonable. The similar frenzy happened when Volks started selling standard male Super Dollfies, who were created a few years when the SD lines started which only had girls at first. Ah. Speaking of those 2chan denizens, I am excited to see their reactions if a DD male is ever to be made. Butthurt ahoy, so I might host a macro party about that! I love seeing these stuff. vhdangel Posted January 12, 2014 While I would truly love it if Volks decided to release a male version of the Dollfie Dream (Sousuke Sagara, here I come!), I'm just not going to hold out much hope. I don't see why having males would spell doomsday for Volks, especially because their company can always expand. Because you can't compare Barbie to DDs. The markets are apples and oranges. Barbie is marketed primarily towards little girls who live in the US, and Ken is essentially an accessory doll added in so that those girls can play house or have their princess rescued by a prince. DDs are marketed primarily towards grown men in Japan, many of whom are otaku, and are encouraged to call these dolls their waifus or girlfriends (This is what I've read. If I'm wrong, please feel free to correct me.) Producing a male doll could be seen as threatening to this market. It's a culture thing. Volks easily produces male SDs because that entire line is marketed towards women, and as someone mentioned before, a large number of women were already modding their dolls to have both genders. Volks eventually stepped up and filled that market's demand. You don't see the same in the DD market, where lots of owners are modding them to be male, at least not in Japan. Most of the female owners are outside of Japan, and we're the ones wanting the male dolls. There is a demand for it, and Volks acknowledges that they've heard our request, but it may not be enough for them to risk alienating their immediate primary market. So, though I would dearly love for them to release Kamina, Kirito, Sesshomaru, Kenshin, Makoto, Haruka, and a dozen others, I can understand why it might not happen. Yes you are correct on most part but one thing: Volks acknowledged the demand for male DDs, from the DD fans IN Japan, not only the overseas customers (That is what I asked, and they did say it. But they didn't know from the overseas fans like us.). One staff said, everyday in their (Japanese) showroom, there is always alot of customers, male or female, asking for a male DD Yes. You heard it right. It is from the DD owners from Japan, including some males too. So, there are Japanese DD fans, both men and women, who are gonna threaten the waifu/girlfriend culture. So who knows? Its getting cloudy there. Website | Doll blog | deviantART | pixiv
SakuraDreams Posted January 12, 2014 Ah. Speaking of those 2chan denizens, I am excited to see their reactions if a DD male is ever to be made. Butthurt ahoy, so I might host a macro party about that! I love seeing these stuff. I'm not sure how it would affect Volks negatively though. Male PVC figures do exist. And not all Volks makes in the DD line is moe. In fact they release relatively little Mini DD stuff. They only released a flat chested DDS sized girl now. So it's not as if they're catering too much to that market anyway. It's probably a financial decision. The demand is probably not as high. Even in the SD channel, I get the idea that female SDs sell out faster. Definitely male outfits take longer to sell out. At home: DD Sakura Shinguji, DDS Yukiho Hagiwara, DD Asuna, DD Rina Ogata, DDS MOMO, DDS Ranko Kanzaki. Waiting for: Hatsune Miku Preordered: Ranka Lee Countdown to Hatsune Miku. Even in the SD channel, I get the idea that female SDs sell out faster. Definitely male outfits take longer to sell out. Excellent point! Look, Volks also started to sell resin kits of male characters, like Gourry Gabriev from Slayers. Oh and not only that, they even are planning to release some of the male characters from Puyo Puyo who seem to be quite well received by the females. And you are also correct on how female SDs, and their clothes sell much faster. I also notice it is quite easy to get a hold on male outfits and dolls too. Also, I notice that on most Dolls Party dealer booths, they mainly sell female clothing. So, even if SD is a female oriented brand, the girls will always sell out first. So if Volks ever sell male DDs, it will probably end up the same with male SDs. I will add more points, and I will use non-Volks examples. Kotobukiya, since a while ago, they started a new PVC statue brand known as es, where they make very high quality Bishonen figures. They have made statues of characters from Hakuouki, Togainu no Chi, Harukanaru Toki no Naka de as wlel as popular males from Evangelion. Also, Kotobukiya has created dakimakuras of those popular bishonen characters, including Lelouch and Suzaku from Code Geass. An unknown brand started to sell 1/8 scale statues of Otoya Ittoki and Tokiya Ichinose from Uta no Prince Sama. The quality is comparable to those bishojo figures. They are planning to release the other boys from Uta no Prince Sama as well in the near future. At last, but not least, Ameba, a blogging and mobile game company, created a card game sns called Girlfriend Beta. It was very well received that they ended up making a male version of the game called Boyfriend Beta which is becoming just as well received as its sister series. Well, look, alot of those otaku stuff are focusing more and more on the females these days. I am pretty sure Volks will start contributing to that trend too. Milkbiscuit Posted January 13, 2014 I'm just scrolling through the comments, and I don't really want to input anything extra to this debate except just this comment. An unknown brand started to sell 1/8 scale statues of Otoya Ittoki and Tokiya Ichinose from Uta no Prince Sama. The quality is comparable to those bishojo figures. They are planning to release the other boys from Uta no Prince Sama as well in the near future. The company is Alter, considered one of the top figure making companies in Japan, and the Uta no Prince figures are part of the Altair figure line, which is targetted towards females. Kotobukiya has the eS line and Megahouse has their G.E.M line. Until recent years it was hard to find decent male scale figures. Because all the figs were of women. Even if the series were based around 90% male characters, you could only find figs of the one lone female. Now the trends are pointing to companies catering more and more to female collectors beyond small merchandise (like keychains and plushies). That's about it. I didn't have anything deep or well informed to add. I know that this is a doll forum and not everyone would know about the figure collecting world but I mostly just wanted Alter to be acknowledged lol Home: Melty, Aoko, Saber A2, MOMO, KOS-MOS, Nanami, Yaya, Yuu-Nii, Kei & Kuu (3x DDH07), Asuna, Rise, Miki, Sakura S, Youmu, Miku
