DoomKitty Posted January 8, 2014 As a kid, I grew up more on Studio Ghibli films than I did on Disney. Spirited Away, My Neighbor Totoro, Kiki's Delivery Service, the classics. My sister even cosplayed Kiki for Halloween in first grade! I still watched Disney of course, but none of those films stayed with me like Ghibli has. Anyway, to the point of this thread! Do you think Volks will ever make any of the Ghibli girls? If so, would you buy one (or multiple)? Who would you like to see? I'm more into resins honestly, but I can't shake the idea of doing either Chihiro (Sen) or Sheeta as a vinyl. Which would you vote on? Which size for those girls? Which head and bust? How would I go about obtaining their very specific outfits, seeing as I can't sew? Share this post Link to post Share on other sites
Katiazza Posted January 8, 2014 I'm probably not the best to answer your questions seeing as I've never seen anything from Ghibli before (it's on my list but it keeps getting pushed further down) but I'll try. I think for Chihiro (going from my quick google images search) you would be best off with either an MDD or even possibly a 48cm/50cm Obitsu body as a hybrid. I think the DDH-04 http://www.volksusa.com/hdd04eo.html would be a good choice since she looks so cheerful and pudgy cheeked. There are probably other heads a little more suited but this would be a reasonably priced option. Sheeta would be a DDS in my opinion. She doesn't look like an adult but she strikes me as older than Chihiro would be. Maybe a modified DDH-02 http://www.volksusa.com/hdd02eo.html would be a good option for her. As far as clothing goes, you could check Etsy and see what's available but I think the best option would be to commission the outfits. Neither of them seem too complicated and would probably be pretty easy for a seasoned doll clothing seamstress. I love everything about that movie and I really want to watch it now I think they would look beautiful as resin dolls. I'm thinking it might be because the style of the characters aren't overly stylized in body type and facial features. pharaviel Posted January 9, 2014 A Kiki MDD (i believe it's one of the most popular Ghibli characters) with broom, bag and cat maybe a nice alternate costume (Since volks seems to like limited alternative dresses) could be his "boyfriend" 's outfit. I'm not saying anyone is wrong, I'm just curious as to why? I have to say though that she totally stuffs her bow. Arkinlae Posted April 29, 2014 A Ghibli doll would be amazing to see no matter who they did (though my personal faves would be Nausicaa/Sophie and if they were ever to do a male Howl). I think Ghibli does seem to have it's own style that stands out from other anime so they would look very unique. It would be very hard to resist wanting to get one too.
