Wrist Joint Problem!

Recommended Posts

Howdy!

Today something not so grand happened with me and my unfinished DD.

Here's my situation:

I bought a DDII body in November from the Marketplace. The body didn't include hands since the seller could not find them, but I did not mind since I was able to talk the price down a bit and figured I'd buy the hands from Volks USA later. The body arrived, and I've been happy with her until today when I decided it was finally time to go buy those hands. Much to my horror, I realized that it is not just the hands that are missing, but the internal frame for the wrists as well.

Below is a photo from Volks' site of the part that I'm missing and my girl's empty stub.

For whatever reason, finding this out made me really upset(and that doesn't happen often haha). I had already paid so much for the body, and thought I was only a $20 pair of hands and faceup away from finally having my girl. But seeing that such a simple yet important part was missing really tore apart my optimism. I had to turn off the computer and take a nap before I could even go about finding a way to fix this XD

So now that I've picked myself up, I'd like to ask some questions to see how I can get my girl together!

I checked Volks' site, and of course, they do not sell internal frame pieces separately. They do sell replacement body parts, but those listed in the DDII section are without the frame. Would it be possible for me to buy DDIII or DDS arms and take the wrist joints from those? I don't need the shoulders to fit. Just the wrists. Does anyone who owns DDII and DDIII/DDS girls know if that would work?

And whether I can use other wrists, or have to look for DDII ones, I will gladly buy from anyone who can sell them to me. I'll create a proper post in the Looking For section for that though

Thank you for reading about my problem. Any help would be GREATLY appreciated since I don't think I can calm down until I get this solved XD

Unfortunately Volks never sold the internal parts for the DDII body. Definitely put up a "WTB" thread up and see if there is anyone who possibly has a body they are selling for parts.

As for using the wrist joints from a DDIII I went ahead and took pictures with the help of Yuri (Saber Lily) who is on a DDII body to show the differences.

On the left is the DDII Wrist Joint & on the right is the DDIII Wrist Joint. The design between the two of them is very different.

Yuri has both joints in to show how they look~

As you can see the DDIII Wrist Joint on the right fits, but it sticks out since it won't go in any farther due to the length of the peg. And even though it fits it is in no way secure as it does move around.

Here are both arms side by side. On the left is the DDIII arm and on the right is the DDII arm. The width of the peg on the DDIII is the same, but the length is much shorter. If you're unable to find the DDII Wrist Joints from someone you could just buy DDIII arms as people have said you can use them with the DDII body:

Yuri & I hope we've been of some help to you! Do hope you can get your DDH-06 girl done soon

As Innocentsake said, the wrist joints were never sold separately and you got ripped off a bit in the sale since now you will have to jump through hoops to try to get a pair of wrist joints.

Options -

- make a WTB thread here or figure.fm and hopefully someone with some defective/ stained arms will be willing to sell you the wrist joint

- buy a whole new set of DD3 arms from Volks (at $100 a pair, this is not a cheap option) and sand down the wrist pegs. The wrist armature of the DD3 fits into the DD2, but it is too long.

- buy a set of swiveling/ improved motion wrist joints from Wersaze (YJA seller). This Taobao seller has them here - http://item.taobao.com/item.htm?id=20690292980 but you can also order directly from Wersaze however I think that this is only half of the wrist and doesn't come with the piece that fits into the arm.

The thing is even if you sand down the pegs of the DDIII wrists they will fit, but will be loose (as they already are in their whole form). It's because the DDIII doesn't have that small ring around the peg that makes it pop into place inside the arm. Also it seems like the peg on the DDII wrist joint might be slightly thicker by just a bit~ Plus people have said that DDIII arms work with the DDII body so no need to sand anything down

Yeah that part only improves the movement of the wrist. It doesn't come with the peg part that needs to slide into the arm.

Can you contact the person you bought from and see if they can find the hand pieces for you?

Every now and then I see people selling DD bodies without the hands and it boggles my mind. Even if it was a DD3 without hands, you'd have to buy a set of arms + hands which would be pretty pricey.

A pair of arms are quite pricely, the joints are worth a lot of money. Like others have mentioned, you are out of luck and should definitely as the sellers for the wrists. The deal was no hands, but should include the wrists as they are technically a part of the arms.

Thank you to all of you! You've been extremely helpful. Especially Innocent Sake's comparison photos since I posted on other places about my problem, and no one gave a definitive answer about the wrist parts actually being different. Glad to know that now!

The seller was selling the body as part of his leaving the hobby sale. I checked his page, and he has not logged back on in a couple months, so I'm not too optimistic about that going anywhere.

I've just emailed Wersaze to see if he sells the wrist with the internal frame part. I don't have high hopes that he does, but might as well give it a try!

And if the Wersaze route does not work out, I'll proceed with a WTB thread for wrists or even inexpensive arms.

And in the end if none of that works out. I'll fork over 77 precious dollars for arms for my even more precious girl XD. At least DDIII arms have improvements, so it wouldn't be a total waste.

It makes sense now why nobody else had bought the body. =_=' Seems that years of owning figmas made me assume that the wrist was part of the hand. But what happened happened, and just knowing now that there is a solution makes me feel a lot better!

Glad that the pictures were of help! Any word from Wersaze? If you have the seller's e-mail you could always shoot them an e-mail since they haven't logged onto their profile (guessing Facebook?). At least if all else fails you can still get her some new arms

First of all, I want to say that this makes me really upset and sad I can't believe the seller would do that to you and I'm really sorry it happened.

Second, I'm reasonable sure I can offer a solution. At least I can offer an idea. Since Wersaze sells the attachment for hand piece, I think the other half can be cast in resin reasonably easily.

The part that goes directly into the hand is the part that Warsaze sells that would replace the default one. The other part is the one I would be able to cast. This is the technique I was looking to use.

http://www.instructables.com/id/Worlds-easiest-silicone-mold/?ALLSTEPS

Making a two part mold and then casting it in clear or white resin. And since you won't see most of that part of the skeleton (it is almost completely hidden) it wouldn't be much of an eyesore. Alternatively, you could dye the resin or paint it after.

I could make the mold no problem, I can get a tube of silicone easily enough and I'm pretty sure I can find some dish soap The resin would be the most difficult part (I'm not really sure what casting resin sells for...) but I think this is a reasonable way to get the pieces.

Also, I was looking into 60cm Obitsu wrist pieces. They're pretty cheap but I have no idea if they would fit. They look like they might but I'm not sure. Maybe ask around and if anyone has a DDII body and a 60cm Obitsu they could try it out for you.

For the record, I tried Obitsu 50 wrist joint on DDII, and it didn't fit. It went in a little, but the Obitsu wrist is too long, and it gets thicker near the ball joint. It might work if you're willing to heavily mod it, though.

For the other record, I don't think recasting that wrist part in resin would work either, for the following reason: Silicon molds shrink. Depending on the quality of your resin and silicone, the piece that would come out would be too small for the socket. :c You'd have to build the piece up after casting to get it to fit in the socket again. I suspect, anyways, the shrinking may be minimal enough to make for a viable solution. If there's no other option, I would consider resin casting a last resort.

Hmmm I wonder if you built the piece up with some clay to make it bigger when it was cast so then even when it shrunk the piece would still be roughly the same size? You could then just take the clay off the joint. I doubt it would cause any issues as long as you used a neutral colour clay that didn't dry and was non toxic.

I know casting wouldn't be an ideal solution but I think there is a way it must be able to work.

With a few test casts to figure out exactly how much shrinkage you would get, sure, I could see that working. Resin isn't cheap though, which is why I would consider it a last resort, is all.

Aww don't be upset with the seller. They had good feedback and didn't seem like a scammer at all. I have the feeling that neither of us noticed there was anything wrong until...now XD

Unless it's proven otherwise, I'm treating it as an honest mistake ^^'

As for casting, it is an interesting idea, but sounds a little tedious since judging by other comments, there are a lot of things to consider. If I can't find wrists from anyone, I really don't mind buying DDIII arms. But thank you for looking into it!

Nothing from Wersaze yet. I wouldn't be surprised if he had a big question mark over his head after reading my email XD

*smacks head* Oh my gosh XD You just reminded me that I still have the sellers email from Paypal! I emailed them earlier tonight and went ahead and left a message on their profile here. Thanks again haha!

Update~

I was able to get in touch with the seller, but no luck because the only wrist parts they have are for DDIII.

So back to looking for arms!
