22mm vs 24mm Eyes?

Recommended Posts

I haven't seen this particular topic addressed (if it has been, please point me in the right direction!). Which size eyes fit DD better, 22mm or 24mm eyes? VolksUSA recommends 24mm on their site but would 22mm do as well? Is there any picture comparisons posted somewhere?

It really depends on the head you choose. Some heads are better with 22mm and others with 24mm. Since the eyes holes are different sized on a lot of the heads.

I think most heads fit 22mm very well. However, 06 and Mariko are great with 24mm.

It depends on the head, and also on personal preference. A majority of my girls wear 22mm, and only two of them, my 06 and my 01, have 24mm. The 06 has very large eyeholes, and with the 01, she is meant to be young so I gave her bigger eyes.

Extremely generally speaking, more whites to the eye = more mature, and less = younger. But that's an extreme generalization since it also depends a lot on the head and the eye style. Too much eye white can also look yandere sometimes.

That really depends on which head it is and what style you like.

I myself prefer anime-styles with smaller eyes and normally use 22mm or 20mm eyes.

The safest bet if you're unsure about your own girl is 22mm, because it fits most of the heads. But there are some Volks heads that fits better in 20mm, like Rise and some older heads.

Like what others said, it depends on the head, and personal preference.

But, here is one thing I can tell you based on my experiences and observations: Bigger eyes can sometimes make the doll looks younger, while smaller eyes can make the doll a little more mature looking.

Take for my custom DDH-03 (Standard DD Yukino head.) girl Hizuru:

She has the 20 mm eyes, and if you compare DD Yukino (Who has 22 mm eyes) to my Hizuru, Hizuru probably looks more, if not, just slightly mature there. This is just my observation, so others may disagree and I am fine with that.

However, its not always the case because Mariko has big eyes, but she is still mature looking, so it is very possible to make mature dolls with large eyes. So, just be creative, and experiment. Always the best!

Thank you, everyone. Now to decide on color!
