A Few More Newbie Questions

Recommended Posts

Reynardine

I've been reading the old threads and getting a lot of info from them, but I did have a few more specific questions.

1. Yellowing: is that an issue with Dollfie Dreams? I've got a good-sized collection of resin BJDs that I am very careful with and they spend a lot of time in their boxes. One reason I wanted a Dollfie Dream is that I wanted a doll that I could keep sitting out on my desk!

2. I've read about the staining issue and some ways to combat that. Is it much of a problem with lighter-colored clothes, though? (My girl would be wearing pink/pastels!)

3. Is there much to worry about if they get knocked over? We have cats that like to knock things over. Resin dolls can get easily chipped. The vinyl seems like it would be more resilient, but is the supporting skeleton very delicate?

4. Volks Dress items: I've bought limited clothes from Volks USA before, but they were MSD-sized, so not much competition there. I saw a set from a collection (I think it was last November's) that would be perfect and I think it will probably show up at Volks USA in a month or so. Do the outfits sell out immediately?

Thanks for your advice!

1. Yellowing is not an issue with DD's.

2. Staining is a big issue with dark clothing. Brilliant colors like red and blue can stain too. It depends on how well the dye is set and it is hit and miss with different outfits and manufacturers. Staining can come from cloth, threads, faux leather, etc. Washing clothes with detergent helps. I hear machine wash inside a washing bag works best. I haven't tried but I imagine machine washing 4 times would get most of the excess dye out, similar to black human clothes. Wearing light colored protective layers between the skin and dark clothes is the best way to prevent staining.

3. Hard to break unless dropped from high heights and hitting hard floor. If you have carpet its probably pretty safe. Scratching of the face is the main danger.

1. Yellowing have only been a problem on one or two of the older white skin dolls(Nia is the one I know of)

2. White underclothes, bodystockings and white lining protects from staining. But it usually pretty heavy coloured clothes that stain. A also believe that it is clothes with natural material such as cotton that stains easier, since the dying process is a bit different than synthetic material.

3. Sometimes you can get unlucky if the fall is heavy enough that you break some internal part. But mostly it's fine, I've had one of my girls fall two times without breaking anything(and she always land on the arcade cabinet, so it's a heavy surface). The face up can be chipped if you're unlucky, that's probably more common than breaking.

4. Dolpa clothes for DDs sell out really fast, especially the one's with a pretty commonly liked style. It's called a click-war for a reason. But that's because there's both DD and SD13 owners competing about the clothes. Those are the two most common doll sizes from Volks. DDdy clothes usually don't sell that fast.
