Your Girls' Clothing Tastes?

Recommended Posts

DoomKitty

Do your girls choose their clothing, or do you make them wear what you want? How do they choose? If you have multiple girls, do they all have different styles? Do they trade clothing ever? For example, I don't have a DD (yet!) but my YoSD will ONLY wear Dollheart! Spoiled. Feel free to post pictures! I love a fashion show!

I tend to choose the styles I want my resin dolls to wear, and am planning to do the same with my DD girl once she arrives. I'm leaning towards Mori style for my doll--I think it is so pretty!

I've had dolls tell me what they wanted to wear in the past, but Annie seems happy in the buff... but we can't have that, so I'm going through the trials known as "what the hell should I buy you to wear!?" The only thing she keeps insisting on is a quality pair of blue jeans! Spoiled girl.

One thing I will recommend for *anyone*: when you're shopping for doll clothes, look for stuff that comes in more than one piece so you can mix and match. Mix and matching is freakin' magic, man.

Agatha's rather particular; she likes Victorian influenced and/or steampunk stuff, and prefers her stuff to not be revealing. With her DDDy figure it seems at first glance that would be a tough bill to fit, but with SD16 girl, SD13 boy, and even some porcelain doll stuff, I've managed to build quite a wardrobe for her.

Nanoha's harder to shop for, partially because she's *less* overtly picky. Agatha I can look at size and at at the outfit, and know instantly if it's her cup of tea--very clear-cut. Nanoha I end up waffling over a lot, because the only real guidelines for her are "cute and classy", so it's difficult to narrow things down between two or more candidates that fit the bill.

Miku's not here yet, but getting clothing for her kind of worries me. Not because of her SS bust, though that is something I'm trying to keep in mind. Oh no. Problem with her is that if I've got her pegged right, she'll wear *anything*. Yukatas, lolita, Renaissance, modern, retro, classy, trashy, skimpy leather things, chain mail bikinis, punk, goth, scifi, birthday suit--so long as it fits physically she'll try wearing it. I'm kind of hoping that my guess here is wrong, because otherwise I'm in high danger of spending way too much money.

Homura's not a DD (going to be an Obi50), but I'll throw her info in here anyway. There's sadly not much that will fit an Obitsu50cm body for sure, namely Azone and Parabox, and they don't make all that much that suits Homura's more pragmatically badass and slightly traumatized persona. It'll take me some time to find what will fit her off-label, so in the meantime I'll probably be making her a lot of stuff once she's all together. I've got a feeling I'll be learning more than I ever wanted to about working with leather. XD

In this household, sanity is considered a tresspasser.

Hmm....

Seeing as how Varakitsu is a Canadian arctic fox spirit I do try to keep her fashion in the "elegant" or classy zone. I may struggle in doing so, I do still keep trying to get her in that zone. Not sure how well though. Trying to shy away from any Japanese fashion (kimonos, yukata, and the like) but I wouldn't mind if she wore such on festive or rare occassions. Aiming more to the Canadian and European type elegant fashion because of her foxy and region influence. Also do try to add that red & white theme for that Canadian flag touch, or just white for the arctic fox touch. More to come with both.

I have to also agree on the mixing-and-matching advice mentioned above. The more goods you can mix up the better the results.

My girls definitely have their preferences, but I find that I have to intervene a bit, especially with Yuriko.

If she could get away with it, half of the time she'd be running around topless, or at least with just a bra, simply because she finds "excessive" clothing uncomfortable and hot. I manage to keep some kind of shirt on her, though, by making sure it's something she'd want to show off, like a Sprout shirt or something similar. Also, she likes shorter skirts, but still has trouble paying attention to how she sits and moves in them, so I've recently made the deal with her that she can wear the skirts as short as she'd like, as long as she's willing to wear tights under them, otherwise it's back to knee-length and longer. Yuriko will NOT wear any shoes that aren't comfortable. Pretty much, with her, it's tennis/basketball shoes or nothing.

Sohie is not nearly as much of a problem, she's a bit more refined and reserved, both in her manners and her clothing preferences. She likes her skirts almost knee-length and wouldn't be caught dead without her tights on. She seems to VERY strongly prefer longer sleeves, as well. She's certainly not shy or overly modest, but she does pay quite a bit more attention to how she presents herself, particularly to outsiders. She also seems to prefer dressier shoes. They have to have at least a little shine.

Miku will be the cosplay Goddess, willing to wear just about ANYTHING and everything for her fans, although once she gets out of the spotlight and into the comfort of her own home, I see sweatpants, baggy shirts, and slippers.

Tamayuki, since he is an MDD boy, likes to wear boy clothes. He also finds that he often has to say "I like boy clothes because I'm a boy." His sisters, namely Yuriko and Naiomi, are either in denial of that fact, or find him too cute not to keep shoving him in girl clothes. He does not really help this problem when he likes helping me with sewing projects that are mostly girl clothes, and his kimono is a long sleeve furisode (reserved for eligible yet unmarried young girls.) He also has wanted bleepens era clothing since the beginning, much to the protests of his friend Dolly who protest that it isn't boy clothes because its not manly enough. Tama often also wants to cosplay as his favorite idol, Mitsukuni (Hunny) Haninozuka, and points out everything he wants whenever we watch Ouran.

Naiomi is lovely, but a big prude. She voices her opinion rather loudly if I make her wear skirts that are shorter than below the knee, most of the time she prefers ankle length skirts. She's got a body with all the right curves but does whatever she can to hide them. If she had more time she would sew herself a wardrobe of 1940s & 1950s fashion. However contrary to all this, she loves the theater and all the costumes. If someone can convince her that a skimpier outfit is accurate for some particular theme or era, she will wear it without hardly a complaint if she is in a good mood.

Rainie is a no-nonsense tomboy and will pitch the biggest fit you've ever heard if you try to put her into something that has more fabric than she deems practical. I did that once because Tamayuki flat out refused, and I have no inclination to do it again. Ever. T-shirts, pants, shorts, and miniskirts make up most of what she will wear. She has often requested all of the girl Pokemon trainer outfits, especially one with jean overall shorts.

Ringo is best described as fairytale lolita, but she isn't strictly just that. She would have me redesign any cute toddler dresses to fit her if she approves of it (she is 13.) If she wears a skirt, it has to have a petticoat and she won't wear underwear unless it is pantaloons. She's all about the ruffles, lace and poof that Rainie can't stand. As innocent as Ringo seems, she is so very devious and ruthless in making sure she is as cute as possible.

Ralph is more or less as about as normal as you can get, clothing wise at least. He's totally a casual boy who refuses to grow his hair out. He seems to take a particular interest in hats.

Bree... wears whatever she puts on. Is it clothes? It is if someone shoves her in some before she wanders off. If she actually ends up fully clothed varies a lot. The rule with her seems to be if she finds it and can put it on, it must be clothing. Some days I expect to see her wandering around with her limbs sticking out of a ripped paper bag, or a chunk of bubble wrap. And don't get me started on buckets and hats.

Dakota thinks that she's pretty easy going with her outfits: they just have to be sexy. I have tried to get her to wear some things that would fit in this category, and was nearly thrown out of the room. Apparently it also has to be often skimpy, but not skanky, but she also gets finicky that they have to often be red, white, and blue, or combinations of them. I think once Naiomi introduces her to the Rockabilly style that there are certain aspects of it that Dakota will take to, especially since it is often related to the pinup style.

Miss Lottie is my Victorian girl and so far has taken to it like a duck to water. I'm not sure how much of the time she will eventually stick to that because the other girls in the house wouldn't allow it, but it definitely is her dominant style.

Ellie seems to be more picky about her clothing color than specific styles. So far it has to be mostly robin's egg blue. I kept tossing clothes at her to see what she liked and she snatched up Naiomi's petticoat to use as a skirt, and fell in love with one of the cap sleeve shirts I made (although she complained the shirt was too short.) It made me laugh when she said that she feels naked without calf-high socks on. The other day I sat down with her to see what clothing she would want to have made for her instead of trying to scavenge through everyone else's wardrobes. I was a little surprised when she said that she wants country clothes, and shirts with flowers on them. It is nice to have a girl who is uncomplicated.

I think I should consider it a good thing that my job is to design them clothes...

Naw what a cute thread XD

My blondie Rina wears typical white, frilly, lace-y cute clothings! Sometimes in pink too!

Sayaka who is my tsundere girl like blue clothings, light blue! But for now I have dress her up in all pastel colors (she's really cute in that but hate me for doing her "cute")

Mizuho is my mature girl, she like classy, white blouses and like the "teacher" style if you know what I mean..

But to be honest..all my girls often wear only nice underwear because I prefer them in that

Sometimes I wonder if it's waste of money buying "real" clothing for them cause I can buy nicer underwear x'D

But I guess I have to let them wear proper clothings when I go to convention/doll meet with them ;_;

Heh, since I have a bunch of girls, I also have a bunch of different styles that they enjoy. I won't list all my girls out here but I'll just make some comments about the main styles of clothing they like.

Most of my girls really love casual clothing. Skirts, simple shirts and socks are the regular dress code around the house. Also, long shirts that resemble a dress are popular as are sleep shirts and panties.

Most of my DDdy girls enjoy wearing sexy clothing with a few of them LOVING to show off as often as possible. So I tend to have lots of low cut tops for them as well as short skirts and pretty lingerie.

Some of the girls don't like to show off so I also need to have some long sleeve shirts as well as long dresses or pants. Sweaters and long stockings are also a must for these girls.

And of course I have Sprout.... who refuses to wear any colors other than white or VERY light pastels like pink or blue. Any bright colors she is averse to and will NOT wear at all. So finding things for her is a real pain sometimes. She's my only girl that has these color preferences, all my others will wear just about any color. Pink is, of course, a fave of most of them tho.

So those are my girls main preferences. It's all across the board so I basically have to find every genre of clothing styles to keep my girls happy!

I'm glad I could be a part of making your day.

I really appreciate your topic because even for me it can be notoriously hard to really pin down who wears what. After I posted here I made boards on Pinterest for all my DD kids to help me have visuals for what everyone likes because it can be hard for me to put esoteric concepts into words. Some are much easier to define than others. Ringo isn't too hard much of the time, but when I was looking at Lolita dresses she very unhappily started yelling at me (I think its the first time!) It took me a second to realize I had purposely ignored a yellow dress because I don't like yellow. I had greatly offended my little princess because I forgot that pastel yellow is her favorite color. Yeesh, such little details to remember all the time...

Sometimes I envy the people who's DD will wear whatever they are given. Other times I'm glad that I've got so many projects to look forward to.

Actually, I'd never considered myself to be one of the barometers of popularity around here, I feel like I hardly post at all (and almost never pictures... I really need to get a bunch of my more recent shots edited and posted, grr...) I'd put far more weight into the fact that Poofiemus posted... She always felt like a lot more of an icon around here than me.

Anyways, I thought this topic was great as it helped me figure out quite a bit more about Sohie. There's a lot I've been trying to pin down about her since she arrived and thinking about how to reply to this post REALLY helped a LOT, so thank you very much.

I'm loving this post as I have often wondered what othere do in this regard.

I have 2 girls, my custom doll Anzu wears casual cute outfits she has quite a few summer dresses I have made for her with cute tiny prints of strawberries, kittens etc. She also wears maid outfits quite often as she is a waitress in a French style desert cafe. She likes to stay well covered and won't wear anything to revealing.

My other doll is Asuka limited character doll. I like to keep her true to her character I have made the school uniform and her yellow dress. She also wears a lot of red and black to fit in with her plugsuit colour theme. Wish volks would have made her a plugsuit as there is no way I could ever make one!

For the most part, my girls dictate what they will or won't wear based on their personality. I tried dictating what they would wear at first, but quickly gave up on that once they yelled at me.

My first girl Ayano has a DDdy body, and I thought she would be a sexy girl. But it turned out she prefers elegant ladylike clothing, with mostly knee length skirts. She'll sometimes wear other things, mostly in cases like on vacation if it's a lot hotter there, or for Halloween.

My twins Eliana and Selena only wear white and black respectively. That's partly chosen by me based on the backstory I created for them, but they also look good in it.

Most of my other girls will wear whatever, usually casual clothes, a lot of skirts. Individually they have color preferences though. Kotone prefers black and other dark colors like purple. She also is the most tomboyish of my girls, and is therefore more likely to wear pants than the others. Ichigo likes reds and peaches, and her sister Akira likes mostly pinks but also reds. Mitsuki and Lydia don't have specific color preferences, their only stipulation is that it must be cute. And Kate has just joined us, so I'm not fully sure about her clothing choices yet beyond that she is very adult, and not afraid to show off.

What a cute thread!

I personally go through different phases.. I had the Marie Antoinette phase.. which I dressed all of my kids in Rococo outfits.. I went through a Mohair phase too.. yep.. all of them where in Mohair wigs... then a Jpunk phase.. and as you imagine.. its all phases.. currently they are all in wide variety of outfits. My girls and boys are a representation of me so they dress however I would like to represent myself! Its a really wonderful way for me to express myself. That and they make great models for my art projects!

My girls are pretty various in their styles.

Kiyo - likes to wear casual clothing, but also seems to keep ending up in sexy outfits. She loves white outfits and lacy things.

Hikaru - Loves Mori style and desert style clothing, but does like pleated skirts. Her favorite colors are army green and khaki.

Nikko - Likes Gothic Lolita style clothing more than anything. She loves grays, blacks and creams.

Shouldn't you say that she likes.... nothing? It seems that every time she's at a meetup, she winds up either missing pants or a top. I think she's very close to being a nudist or something!

Roslyns' first outfit was chosen by me, just so that she'd have something to wear on arrival. Everything else has been chosen by both of us (well mainly by Ros) after spending countless nights browsing Cool cat, Nightfall and various other stores.

One DD L I own that looks a bit like a mean Saber. She looks only right in slightly formal and mature clothing. Right now she is in a tight fitting chinese/korean dress with a fur boa. I've tried to put her in a lolita styled dress and also one that sort of looks like a maid dress. She just looked off. It's as if she needed something that looked mature and authoritative.

I also have a MDD that looks a bit sad. She's in a real fancy western styled dress and looks fine in it. I'll probably only buy elaborate western outfits for her in the future.

if you have one or two daughters, clothing is easy to try, could try different style and then choose the better one or more proper one. but if you have more than 5, the topic maybe become complex! I am tracked in this problem now OTL.....

What would you do then, plan ahead of time or something? Do you just sell clothes that aren't a good match if they don't work out?

I have two dollfies right now and am trying hard to not get more. If I do though, I'd probably encounter the same thing that you're describing.

Well, my only DD loves EVERYTHING xD

But she has a terrible weakness for steampunk outfits (even if her bust doesn't fit 100%). She also likes lolita style but also has a few Angell studio full sets like the red royal gown or the black sexy butterfly kimono. She owns +10 cosplays and several types of school uniforms.

About casual clothes (70% of her wardrobe) she likes to show less skin because she almost never leaves home without her anti-stains body suit so she likes to wear clothing which covers entirely the bodysuit.

About her future sister (in case I win the lottery) Shiburin will do an extensive clothing and wig test for searching her own style.
