Quick outing with Saber and Delia

Havent had the chance to take too many outside pictures since the last outings, and decided to take a quick opportunity to capture some of the frosted trees outside in my yard.

 

Using a stand on tripod this time again, since A) my yard is basicly a moss covered grass swamp thus not exactly doll friendly, and B) Laying on it in -16C weather to take proper angle shots isnt my first priority at the moment...

 

Anyways, hope you like them, starting with saber trying to recapture some of the nice posure from a few years back when she was photographed in her own armor infront of this willow:

I really like how the cinnamon gold wig pops up in this light.

The I still like the triple white (Well, white-white-semi white) combo, although its not quite photography friendly in winter, for obvious reasons.

I think the Saber one that's zoomed in is my favorite of the batch.

Such nice photos! Saber looks great out there in the snow and ice but Delia looks AMAZING in her outfit! I just love the style and colors of it on her! That was a great choice.

Thank you. Mm.. it is a nice outfit, I was hoping to get the actual black version (since its based on Maetels outfit from Galaxy express 999) of it as a contrasting pair, but unfortunately the auction seller hasnt made more of them this year.

 

The frosted trees are pretty neat this year, Id like to take more of this type arond town, but chances are a bit slim since Id have to go out in the morning (when the street lights actually add to the effect, oddly enough) but I need to work at that time.

Thank you, It was a bit difficult to figure out how much of the willow I wanted in the background, infact I have to admit in the one she's reaching out she is blending into the scenery a bit too well, but going in too close, and I thaught id loose the detail of the tree... problems to solve with more experience I guess.

 

In general it was also a bit more difficult to setup this year, since I had cut the willow down last year after it had gotten too big. now it was a bit more challenging to keep the neighbouring stuff out of frame or behind it.

Thank you, Delia has had this on since the christmas bash, but its the first time taking either outside. I was really hoping for this kind of weather to take the photos, so it all worked out nicely in the end, despite the trees being actually bushes beside my house.. heh.

Nikon D3200, 35mm prime, in full manual mode.

Elements 2.0, mainly for cropping and downsizing the photos. Minor level adjustment on the first delia picture, due to it being in a wrong white balance setting.

I suppose it depends on the advice...

 

I dont want to get too defensive, because I cant say that I perfectly know what im doing, but I am aware of some trademark problems that I've developed. White balance, possible ISO setting causing grain, not shooting in raw format, etc...

 

For these shots the biggest problem is probably still light since the sun was setting very blandly, so the colors dont really pop as a result, the delia ones were taken in a shadow added to this I suppose.

 

Software wise I dont really believe in post production editing, that goes beond cropping, resizing, and occasional level editing, unless I have a catastrophic balance problem with a 25 picture photostory I try to avoid bigger fixes.

 

Id like to think my problems with my photos are more between me and my camera, and dont want software to solve them.

 

Slightly silly romanticism.. but thats how I roll i suppose... heh.

Absolutely no bad feelings taken about your offer -- so apologies if I also came out as a bit of a stereotypical stubborn finn.

 

just wanted to make sure, that you knew, that I already knew there were problems, but im not too bothered about showing my mistakes if there was something else nice in the photo.. heh.

 

But I actually do appreciate your offer, since I am still learning about photography at this relatively late age, and the photography section on this board has been a big help to get most initial problems sorted.

 

Im still surprised at how little can affect the need to dial in new settings with the camera.. but requires more practice.

They still periodically put up various outfits, but unfortunately its been over a year ago since they sold a similar styled santa outfit, and about two since the last one like this... but maybe one day there will be white and black maetel dresses for offer again.
