Eyes project with movable iris from つらら Studio

Recommended Posts

nogo171

With my broken Japanese knowledge, I was able to extract little info from this interesting new project posted on null_ento san on Flickr. Basically they plan to produce new type of eyes with movable iris in order to easily create different gaze directions. It is now extremely inconvenient to do this because you will need to take off the wig and remove the head cap to reposition the eyes. In door shoots would bad enough let alone outdoor ones.

I can't yet to find out how they are doing this but from their blog but it seems to be in production as soon as this spring. Definitely would love to get one pair, probably from yahoo auction, with a ten times markup? (if only I can attend one of the Dolpa ... highly doubt that they'll offer online)

This is actually an old invention.

There was one type of kit that dates quite a few years back still occasionally on offer on yahoo japan, that the person that runs the Fetish room blog (sounds, and occasionally is iffish, but seems to know their stuff) demoed on a Saber if I recall correct that used normal volks 20/22mm eyes that you could move around.

At the moment couldnt find the kit on yahoo to link for pictures, but the principle was relatively simple.

a fully spherical eye (either two eye halves put together, or one with the included round backpiece), in a tube, and the eyes were held in place by a spring that attached to the back of the tube, but essentially you could move the eye around, change color if you had used two eye halves for the setup.

though, I guess this could be a different way of doing it alltogether.

EDIT: Found the fetish room thingy for it, its by Earhearts rubbish factory, and have to include a nudity warning at the end of it:

That is really cool idea! I would love to have that! A couple of my girls always have their eyes positioned looking to the side, It would be really awesome if I could change them around whenever I wanted.

I wonder why this isn't more popular?

I can only really talk about the Earhearts one... but I suppose the core of the problem is, what it actually is, A bit of a gimmick.

Its a fun feature, but its not necessary, and setting it up could be a possible hastle, and the earhearts design also lets the eye rotate, and getting it lined up might be another problem to consider.

Which I guess is my excuse for not getting a set in these five years.. heh.

Also the earhearts one was more or less made for volks eyes, in a specific size which at the moment they do have quite a nice selection to pick from, but five years ago, when that demo-post was made not that much, so that could have been a intrest limiting factor.

Interesting how it appears to move without needing to remove the headcap and wig. I'm really curious as to how it works. My first thought was, "Magnets???"

I think that is such a cute idea! I am terrible at getting the eyes to line up though, so I'd love something to make sure they move together. I don't want my Rika looking like Derpy Hooves all the time. D:

But heeeey, a little off-topic here! That sweater-jacket outfit is adorable! I super need to find something like that now for Rika.

Everybody's going on about the mechanism, and here I am pining over that opalescent texture in the irises. I wanna know what material they used to get that!

I will admit the mechanism looks cool, and could be especially nice on Agatha with her smaller irises/larger whites, so I'll be keeping tabs on this in case someone gets it and can show us all how it works.

I don't think there is anything special with the materials, maybe just metallic. Bringing the eyes out in photoshoot heavily relies on lighting, not just only the eyes themselves I believe. But people from this studio do offer beautiful eyes at Dolpa so they might have their secret recipe lol

You are in luck now, and probably for a while. It is still available at Volks from last week with no quantity limit meaning there are still heaps of them

Haha I know that it should have been there before. With such innovation in Japan, can't believe it took this long for them to alter such removable part of dollfies lol. I remember reading this new type only offers

horizontal movements. So maybe a bit better and easier with alignment?

I wonder why this isn't more popular?

You are right about the part that it was a bit of a gimmick. I don't see this new one will become widely popular either. It is most only useful for portrait photo with proper lighting setup. And the mechanic does seem simple with seeing 2 photos next to each other in the above samples. But who know there was probably 30 minutes gap between those 2 shots just for eyes aligning. Neverthless, if it comes in a kit with interchangeable eyes, or at least a kit with their own eyes line up, I definitely go for at least one (sorry Volks, not a big fan of your eyes line up :p)

I'm not that interested in movable iris but those eyes, wow ! (plus I'm getting a Marisa and they suit her so well !) Do you happen to have a link to share where one can inquire about normal eyes maybe ? Thanks so much in advance .

I believe they are one of the frequent Dolpa attendants. Their booth in last Dolpa was the 5th picture in this blog from Danny http://www.dannychoo.com/en/post/27121/Dolpa+30+Dealer+s+Booth.html. He also posted a link to their blog. Apart from that, absolutely no info regarding online sales.

And I've never came across yahoo auction sales either!! Probably have to try one of the proxy service that has people attending Dolpa if you really want to get a hold of them, SnS on here, or Natalie from DW?
