Ice storm!

We don't usually get much wintery weather down here in SC other than some colder than normal temps but yesterday and today showed us that winter was definitely here. We got ourselves a nice sized ice storm that dropped a mix of sleet, snow and freezing rain and basically shut down the Charleston area all day.

 

Since I had the day off due to weather, I spent it puttering around the house for most of the morning. It hadn't snowed here overnight so I was a bit displeased about that since I had wanted some snow to take pics of my girls playing in it. But luckily, we got a few flurries midday that quickly turned to ice on the ground. It wasn't the fluffy snow I wanted but it certainly made Kino happy when I told her we were going outside.

 

Manami also wanted to go out but she really wasn't dressed for it. More on that later... first I wanted to share pics of Kino enjoying herself out in the yard and finding things she'd never seen before. It's not really a story, just observations from Kino on what she saw outside.

Well, it's not *actually* snow but it'll do for now.

It's ice crystals dear. The snow hit the ground and froze. Some of that is also where freezing rain hit the ground and froze into little ice chunks.

"What are those long thingies over there?"

 

Those are icicles. Water froze when it hit the bushes and kept adding to the water that fell before.

We did get a pretty thick layer of ice on everything. I'm glad I parked my car inside the garage!

After we got some hot chocolate, Manami decided she wanted to go out too. But as I predicted, things didn't go well.

Thank you! Even tho she was all attitude today, she's still adorable. And yeah, this ice storm is nothing compared to what the North gets but for us, it wasn't any fun at all.

I wanted to take Annie out to take some photos in the ice and little bit of snow, but it was too cold for me to go out all bundled up, much less her without any winter clothes at all! Tomorrow begins day 3 of the icepocalypse...

I'm glad you like Kino's photos, getting these pics wasn't easy as she was all over the place out there! She's normally my quiet and shy girl but seeing all the ice and such really woke her up. Even tho she would LOVE to play in some real snow, I fear sending her to anyone because once she arrives, NO ONE would ever send her back to me! She's TOO CUTE!

Oh yes, these two are about as far apart as you can get! Thank you about Kino! She was so different form her usual quiet self.... I was amazed at how excited she was. And yes, even tho that silly Manami was NOT dressed for the weather, she sure did look awesome!

Yep, it has NOT been fun here over the past 2 days but today was a bit better, even tho it was still butt-ass cold out. And I know what you mean about it being too cold out there for you, I had to bundle up by wearing my one piece Carhardt setup. That thing is super heavy but super warm so me being outside for about 45 minutes taking this pics didn't affect me much. If I hadn't had that outfit, there's no way I would have gone outside for those pics!

Ha ha ha! That's about what I said to myself too! I've been working in the cold temps for a few days but when the ice storm hit, they sent us home and gave us Wednesday off. So at first I was like there's no way I'm going out in that if I don't have to work! But then I decided that if I didn't get SOME pictures of the girls out in it, I'd regret it.... so out I went!

 

I'm glad you liked the girls and their reactions tho. At first I figured Manami would have been all sorts of excited about the ice but as you saw, she's getting less and less impressed with stuff like that and she seems to be more about being comfy instead. Hmm... sounds like her Papa just a tad....

Thanks so much! I'm glad you enjoyed Kino and the photos! But I don't think Manami's outfit can really be considered proper "winter" attire.... there wasn't much there! Next time she'll listen to me and dress more warmly.

I know she wasn't and I had told her SEVERAL times to get on some pants of leggings. But as usual, my little hard headed princess has to do things HER way and find out it wasn't the best way to do it. It really sucks that we didn't get the snow they said we would be getting. I was all ready for some good snow photos!

 

Thanks about the girls! You of all people should know that Manami is all about the form over function when it comes to clothing. If she's not looking hot, she won't bother wearing anything.
