Which Volks Saddle Stand?

Recommended Posts

I'm trying to decide between the VOLKS Metal Doll Stand Ctype(Center)for SD/Saddle stand type and the VOLKS Metal Doll Stand C-type for SD / Saddle stand type. What are the pros and what are the cons for both of these?

Pros: Both are very sturdy thanks to the solid metal build with very well gloss finished. Volks stands are among those having very subtle profile with extremely thin base.

Cons: No. They are for different purposes, as far as I understand.

If you are looking for a beautiful display stand, Saddle Center type might be the one because everything will look more symmetrical. But then it will be mostly visible from any angles. If you are looking for a stand that can be easily hidden in photo shoot (whether you try to hide it with camera angle or remove it in post process) go with Waist A type so you can position the loop the other way and the doll won't need to stand on the base.

Saddle C type is a bit in the middle of these 2 so I don't see many reasons to go with it.

And last but not least, both Saddle type only work well with dresses (pants will look weird) while waist type, you can be more flexible hiding it under the top or jackets unless your doll is doing bikini

I was wondering this exact same thing about stands. So nogo17 you prefer the waist stand over the saddle? I only need one for displaying dolls on shelf and for some reason thought that the saddle type would be more stable.

Thank you so much! That was extremely helpful. Since I want one for display purposes and one for photographs it looks like I'll be buying two stands now.

For me side hold stands are my least favorite option. They can be kinda bad if your doll has long hair, gets tangled in the stand, and they can be harder to get in and out if you like picking em up often. As Nogo said saddle stands don't like as nice if your girl's not wearing a skirt, in which case I prefer thigh hold stands. If thigh hold stands have a downside its that all the ones I can think of off hand have small thick bases that limit posing options.

As far as the 2 Volks saddle stands, I have some of both and don't see too much difference in them. Center type could limit posing if you wanted to put their legs directly underneath them such as having one foot in front of the other or something along those lines. On the other hand, center post stands have the doll more centered on the base and they are little cheaper.

I just saw this thread http://www.dollfiedreams.com/viewtopic.php?f=17&t=5835 I going to get my husband to help me make something like this.

This one is nice and has a very subtle profile. The only thing I worry is that acrylic won't be as heavy as metal thus less stable. And clear acrylic is very prone to scratch if you are not careful. But if you can have it at minimum cost, very worth trying!

Thigh hold type are surely the least stable one but Volks doesn't have that one I think. The one I was talking about was the A waist. I don't see with a single pole design like this, it can get in the way of the hair. Though all my girls don't have wigs that are long enough to touch the loop so I'm not 100% sure.

And my idea was that while the loop is supposed to face towards the base, you can face it the other way so your girls basically stand on the floor. The stand is heavy enough to hold the girl that way. C saddle center or C saddle side can't really give you this option. That is the only difference between the 2 types that matters most to me.

Yes, Saddle type are always the most stable option because it limits the doll movement the most. Saddle type with center design are even more stable because it is very well balanced. Stability, Saddle should score 11 out of 10, but Waist will still do 9/10 for me ^^.
