Because One Expensive Hobby is not Enough! (Intro)

Hello! I just signed up here not too long ago, but I've been an admirer for a while now! (Please forgive me if I make a mistake! I am still learning so much. Thank you in advance! ; u ; )

I've known about Dollfie Dream dolls, but I think the first two dolls that really grabbed my attention were Millhiore and Mariko sensei. They both came out at around the same time if I recall correctly and I instantly fell in love with their design.

I remember thinking to myself, "You're already into J-fashion, cosplay, figure collecting, anime, and manga... your wallet can't take much more abuse!" Haha. I never learn.

I kind of gave up on the idea of owning one for a while. It was just one of those things that I was interested in, really admired, but would never really ever get into myself. (But I guess most hobbies start out that way, yeah?) xD

I think it was a combination of tumblr, myfigurecollection, figure.fm, flickr, etc. that finally pushed me overboard by looking at all of the inspiring photos. There are a few users on here (who I don't know their names) who greatly inspired me! I have seen their photos on other blogs, sites, etc. and was delighted to see that they are members here as well. (I wish I knew their names! ; A ; )

Anyways! My passion will always be lolita fashion, but I decided that it was time that I got my very own doll. I had been looking at resin BJDs, but after reading and doing some research, I decided that I would prefer a vinyl doll. I immediately thought of the two dolls that really made me want to get a doll in the first place. I had already been casually looking to see if anyone was selling these two, but never had any luck. (I wish I would have signed up for this site as well as DoA sooner, it might make my search a little easier. But that's okay! One day!)

I just recently found Mariko and purchased her through DollyTeria. However, I am still waiting for them to confirm that they have her and send me an invoice. The suspense is killing me. lol

I really hope everything works out... My heart is set on her and I already bought a Volks outfit for Mariko and I am trying to get another outfit from the same seller... haha (Volks Raspberry Chocolate Cake Dress Set. If you know where to buy one, send me a PM?)

Wish me luck! I will let everyone know how it goes. Does anyone have any experience good or bad with this website or perhaps a similar site? Care to share you experiences? I am familiar with Closet Child, but have never ordered from them or DollyTeria. Also, does anyone have any advice for me in general since I'm just starting out? Anything I should know/have/buy before/if Mariko comes home?

Thank you for reading! I'm very grateful to be a part of this community and I look forward to making new friends!

Welcome! Mariko is super pretty, I have one myself. I fell for her the moment I saw her. ^_^ I do not have experience with DollyTeria, so I cannot help you there... However I hope it goes well.

I'm not sure what wig you have picked out for her, or if you are using the one she comes with, but a wig cap is useful. Some wigs can stain them. It's not (usually) the "hair" itself, but the actual part that holds the wig together that will stain them. Dark colored wig caps tend to stain the easiest, while lighter colors MAY not stain at all. Also a body stocking may be something you will want to have if you plan on putting her in dark clothing. It will prevent staining on her body. Volks and Cool Cat sell body stockings and wig caps.

These links may help you find protective wear for her:

Thank you so much for the warm welcome!

Yes, I agree. I also love how easy she is to customize and looks good in just about anything. She's very versatile which I feel is good for someone just starting out.

Your family is so amazing...(you're one of the people I mentioned above that has inspired me so much. I love how you coordinate your girls and how natural they look. The lighting, the choice of wigs and color schemes for your dolls are so cohesive and...! ^///_///^; Anyways, sorry! I hope I didn't weird you out.)

I will definitely check that out. I had read about that and along with my purchase of Mariko, also bought two new wigs but they didn't have any wig caps in stock. Thank you for reminding me!

I'm glad to see you posted your thread too, I was looking for it after you posted in mine! ^^ Welcome!

It sounds like you're already off to a good start. I think Mariko will have a great home with you!

You mentioned that you're into lolita fashion, are there any specific styles you like best? I used to wear lolita a lot myself (mostly gothic, kuro, and casual, and aristocrat if that counts, I know it doesn't for some people) but stopped when I got into dolls since I don't have the money to be in two expensive hobbies at once. XD

I was a little hesitant at first, but I just started to write and found myself not able to stop once I started. xD Thank you for the welcome! It truly does mean a lot to me. (I always think I did something wrong when no one responds haha)

I have two outfits ordered for Mariko, and will be placing an order with Volks for the body stocking and head cap...and maaaaybe some accessories once I get paid this week. I am still waiting for a confirmation email from Dolly Teria. ; ~ ; I really hope everything works out.

I also am a big fan of cyristinecreations on Etsy so I definitely want to order from her as well.

I mostly wear sweet, but on occasion will wear creepy-cute and classic. Aww! Sometimes it can be really hard to choose just one hobby if you have many different interests. I completely understand! I am selling off a lot of my figures, games and anime merch in order to help out with this purchase.

Update! I just got my confirmation email!!

The wigs I ordered along with Mariko are in different shop locations so they have to consolidate the order before shipping, and then invoice me with the final shipping charge. It will take a little longer, but it's going to be so worth the wait!

Yaaaaay! Haha, sorry! I'm just super excited and relieved! xD

Going to Disney today with my boyfriend and some friends so this is definitely an awesome start to my day!

Hello. I am also new here, but likewise have admired DDs for some time. After spending quite a few thousand dollars on figures, I finally took the plunge in to Dollfies. They're just too gorgeous to resist!

I look forward to seeing what you end up doing with your girls! I'm interested to see other people new to the hobby like myself, to see what kind of directions we all take. I imagine there will be quite a lot of variation, which is part of the fun of it all. ^^

Hello! It's nice to meet someone else who was also a figure enthusiast that decided to convert to Dollfies. xD I have sold many of my scale figures, but I I still have my nendos. They are so cute! Haha.

Thank you! Likewise! So far I want to make a lot of chocolate themed outfits for her. (Thanks Angelic Pretty! Haha)

Yes! It is always so inspiring and fun to see what other people come up with. It's honestly one of my favorite aspects of this hobby. (The creativity and customization) I look forward to seeing pictures! Let me know when you post some! I need a new camera so that I can take a lot of pics when she finally arrives. I just paid for her yesterday and I'm waiting for that tracking number! Thank goodness EMS shipping is super fast. I can't wait!!
