chibiponi Posted February 22, 2014 I got curious and decided to ask if anyone around here also enjoys using Linux. ^^ I've used it off and on since about 2001, but in the past couple of years one distro or another has served as my main OS entirely or at least on a laptop. What are your favorites? My main favorite is Mint (with Cinnamon), then Xubuntu (running that on a c720 Chromebook at the moment).
AntElitist Posted February 23, 2014 I used to run the usual Ubuntu, until I realized I can't live without Windows. The sadness. I guess using Android counts. LOL.
pharaviel Posted February 23, 2014 Used it for a couple of years, but later went to Mac
glassjaw Posted February 27, 2014 Opensuse, mint, fedora, backtrack, redhat, played dabble different vendor os's distros, but on linux I only used it for my home web server running apache, since its free. basically that's all there is to it. the gui is nice and best of all free, though software is very limited. When it comes to OS I prefer Linux than Mac, and I'm in IT so basically most vendors I used are oriented in Microsoft, so definately, Windows guy, but if Windows is non-existence I'm more inclined to use Linux. chibiponi Posted March 15, 2014 I try to stay away from Windows as much as possible. XD I'm avoiding 8 like the plague. I don't care much for Macs either, to be honest. I'm staying more and more on Linux-based systems these days. I game a lot, but more are starting to move that way thanks to Valve's work on SteamOS and general awareness of the platform increasing. And thanks to stuff like Crossover (and WINE if you're not willing to pay for that), I can get about 95% of the stuff I play and use working to suit my needs if it's not available natively. The stuff that doesn't work are usually things I don't care that much about so it's not a deal-breaker for me. So I basically live, work, and play almost entirely on Linux now. ^^
AntElitist Posted March 19, 2014 My degree's Final Year Project seems like it requires me to work with custom Linux nodes, so I guess maybe I will take this time to get back to familiarize myself with Linux.

Nice! I didn't get to do anything that fancy for my final project way back when - but I still got to work with Linux, I ended up making an arcade cabinet using it as a base. ^^ I wanted to make Linux administration the focus of my major but I couldn't get the support I needed. Oh well. At least now I can play with it and fix it when it breaks. XD

What are you working on right now with the nodes, if you don't mind me asking? if you mean my project scope, it is to create a network tesbed using emulab, and then take network benchmark, and attempt to improve it
chibiponi Posted April 10, 2014 That's cool! ^^ I wish we had access to something like that during my networking courses. What Linux distro are you using with it?
