Mai Kawasumi from Kanon

Hello!

I think about it for a loooong time and I'm finally working more seriously on this custom. Kanon (or the more recent anime version: Kanon 2006) is one of my favourites anime and I love Mai Kawasumi's character. That's why I want to make her as a DD. :3

I'm not sure on what works better so please, if you can, say what do you think about, tell me if you have any suggestions. I'm open.

Head: DD Yuki Nagato

Body: DD M-Bust Normal Skin

Oh, Mai was one of my favorites when I watched the 2006 Kanon. In a way she kind of seems like a predecessor for Akemi Homura--the stoic vigilante, only Mai doesn't have even a quarter of Homura's angst. XD

 

Nagato would be a pretty good match, I think, though you'll need some patience to catch her since she doesn't seem to come up often. I also think that an 02 with the right faceup could be a decent match. Also, maybe a Sendou Erika/Feena could work with a frownier faceup.

I did some research. Yuki N. is so difficult to find :s DDH02 or Feena. Didn' t think at these heads but they fits too ! A little preference for Yuki but will be a nice choice !

Yup! Which is kind of funny, since my other favorite was Ayu. XD Kind of wish there was a scene or two of her bugging Mai, but with the way the plot panned out that just didn't happen. I guess your DD Mai could end up meeting another Ayu-esque DD though! Which makes it kind of too bad you're not in Ecchi-zona, because it'd be fun to have Mai "meet" my Agatha, Kymaera's ditzy Yuki, or AnimatorAR's Charlotte, tentacles and all. (Guess you'll have to get to your own local meet and instill some shenanigans.)

 

Yeah, it's a little tricky when it's a limited you're after. On the one hand it's hard to commit to the long hunt when you could get a standard girl sooner, but on the other hand you want to get it just right. Guess it comes down to whichever head you're most in love with, and go with that.

Interesting concept - I have never seen any Kanon styled Dollfie Dreams before.

 

I watched this series quite a while ago and am a fan of Makoto (her arc made me cry so much! )

 

I think that a Yuki N. head would be perfect due to the characters having that same early Kyoani art style (speaking of the 2006 remake of Kanon) but it would be super hard to get hold of plus very expensive! I do think that the SQ Lab Sylvia makes a good fit too.

 

With regards to the uniform - to me it looks like it would be tricky to make especially with all the piping... However if you are skilled with sewing and drafting patterns then it shouldn't be a problem. My skills are pretty limited so I'd probably try to do it myself but not be satisfied with the results.

 

You may be able to find a 1:3 scale plastic model kit of a similar sword that you could modify. I think I saw some of those on hobbylink Japan's site once.

 

Anyway good luck with creating her and I look forward to seeing your progress.

Me too, but I saw a not-finished project of Ayu on the forum (don't know if the person continue wanting to do her now). So sad, Kanon is a beautiful anime!

 

Makoto is one of my favourites! (Her story make me always cry when I see Kanon...)

 

I see one recently on yja but can't get her without layaway... Without DollfieWorld (if Nathalie accept), don't know any proxy which accept layaway for an ask like this ;_;

 

Never sew but I'm thinking on it. I saw a Mai's outfit on taobao but finally think it is not perfect :/

Oh man, congratulations!

 

Ooh. Wigs. Dark purple and proper ponytails (instead of bobs with clip-on tails) are a little tricky to find, but they do exist. Enabling powers, ACTIVATE!

 

Dollce does have a pretty dang nice match: http://doll.shop-pro.jp/?pid=31844023 However, it's out of stock currently (though I think they'll restock it?), and they do need a proxy sadly.

 

Cancan has a ponytail style that matches the style, but the colors available are a lot of close-but-not-quite ones: a navy blue that's not quite purple, a purple that's too light, and the wine which is the right value but a hair too red, at least to my eye. Wigs2Dolls has a lot more fantasy color options, but their DD size ones don't have quite a perfect style match--the inverse of the CanCan problem. http://www.wigs2dolls.com/bjd/en/product-120-129-detail.htm would need straightening and the ponytail would need to be raised. http://www.wigs2dolls.com/bjd/en/product-14-24-detail.htm has twintails, which could probably be consolidated into one thick tail--the reason I'm listing this one is because it has a good "ponytail hairline" already going for it that you can see by the ears. http://www.wigs2dolls.com/bjd/en/product-14-24-detail.htm is a little funky, but the tail is decently high. And http://www.wigs2dolls.com/bjd/en/product-31-9-detail.htm is another twintail you could probably restyle. Colors you'd want to consider are all under "fancy", and personally Deep Purple and Midnight Blue look like good candidates to me.

 

I suspect there are more, but here's at least a starting point.

In my opinion, midnight blue is better. On cancan-series, I saw this one : http://www.cancan-jseries.net/product_info.php?cPath=29_308&products_id=2469&osCsid=ff50ff5ebe48020691e3f9973e4f9b0f . But it is difficult to see how long it is on a DD.

On dollce, I see some pretty matches but the color seems to be too light? :/
