Silly Australian, what are you doing!?

FreelancerAlphaOneDashOne

Hello all, just signed up to this forum and want to prove that Australia does actually exist *and* has people in it.

I first learnt about VOLKS after being exposed to the Snow Miku in a purchase enthusiast thread on a board whose name shall not be mentioned. I thought she was absolutely beautiful, so I started stumbling around the internet looking for more. Sadly I never got to preorder Miku, mainly due to a complete lack of understanding on how to actually order one, as I cannot speak or read a single word of Japanese. I was so happy when I was introduced to the VOLKS international store, finally able to confidently do my shopping without worrying about mistakes.

Don't own any dolls yet, but am intending on buying one in the near future. Interested in getting one of the standard DD models to begin with, have fallen in love with Aoi 2nd version, however she seems to be currently out of stock on the website I'm looking at. Fortunately she is listed as "will be restocked", so hopefully the website is not lying to me.

I am ultranoob when it comes to dolls and only barely capable of even buying things online, so it will be a very arduous process for me to get my hands on what I want.

For anyone curious, I'm a heavy vehicle tyre fitter by trade. Trucks, tractors/farm machinery, industrial and mining equipment, excavators, forklifts, anything with a rubber tyre on it, I've worked on. Rather strange profession for a man who likes dolls, huh?

Thanks for reading, looking forward to you holding my hand as I work my way through Dollfie ownership.

You're coming to Australia? Why would anyone willingly come here with all the stuff that can, will, and wants to, kill and eat you?!? You're crazy mate.

I'm in a small country town called Adelaide out in the great Saltbush Plains beyond No-Man's land east of the Great Dividing Range. Out this end we get lots of snakes and spiders and sharks and octopus and jellyfish and dingos and drop bears and emus and kangaroos and snails and fish too. (Yes, even the fish and snails are poisonous, and yes, a fully grown male Kangaroo does have enough power to seriously injure you or even kill you if you can't get medical treatment in time. An Emu probably won't kill you but they can cut you open pretty good.)

Anyway, a bid of advice: Make sure to shake out your shoes before wearing them. Make sure to shake out your breakfast cereal before eating it. Make sure to shake out your toilet paper roll before using it and also check under the seat for poisonspiders before sitting down. And no, I'm not joking. If you're lucky it'll get squished under the seat but if your seat has overhangs, they love hiding up in there waiting for a toosh to sink their fangs into.

Besides all of that, hope you enjoy your time in Australia.

Is there any way to know if/when something will come back into stock? As I mentioned earlier, I'm quite in love with Aoi V2 and intend on waiting for her to become available again. I'm not even going to try to custom build/paint/etc a doll for my first go, so a pre-made standard is the way to go.

G'day mate Welcome aboard and as I usually say, welcome to the dark side Dollfie Dreams have a mysterious tendency to multiply!

I think you're exaggerating a bit about Australia being unknown

I'm in a small country town called Adelaide out in the great Saltbush Plains beyond No-Man's land east of the Great Dividing Range.

I thought Adelaide was close to the sea in the south-east corner of South Australia. Are there more than one town called Adelaide? Sounds like you're in the middle of the outback. My knowledge of the Australian geography is a bit lacking though:)

On the contrary! I'm sure you'll soon find out that you're not the only "rough" guy with a "soft" side in the DD community. I know of at least one more DD owner somewhat similiar to you; he's a truck driver in the US if my memory serves me right. Can't remember his name though

May have slightly exaggerated the deadliness of some of the stuff out here... but I have been bitten a few times by a few things in my years. Working on farm equipment, you see all sorts of funny critters.

One that sticks in my mind is an apple farmer with a large tractor, drove down an aisle between rows of trees one day, and ran right through a web of golden orb-weaver spiders. Ended up with the entire web stuck to the nosecone with 10-15 adult spiders and countless spiderlings caught up in it. Absolutely beautiful spiders they are, anyone without a phobia of spiders should have a look. I've always had a fascination with spiders, and often get in trouble at work for wasting time playing with the ones I find through my jobs.

Nah, I'm in "the" Adelaide. Not sure if it gets called this elsewhere but here we refer to it as an overgrown country town. It's city sized, but has town-sized infrastructure and services, making for an interesting combination, especially if you need to get around somewhere fast or need education, medical treatment or other government services. Except for unemployment benefits. We have plenty of social security offices.

Adelaide is also full of country people which can make life difficult if you're not exactly the same as they are. I have to keep my interests to myself, sadly. Especially in the line of work I do, the blokes tend to be a bit "football meat pies kangaroos and Holden cars".

Well, I have my own house so I can at least have them on display here. I have all my other anime-related paraphernalia on display at the moment including a 1/3 Azone Kaname Madoka, which I adore, standing in her cabinet in the lounge room.

It's not all bad though, I have a bunch of real good friends I found in the anime/Japanese culture circles, there is an anime club here too.. I just don't let people from work come to my house. Who cares what normals think anyway? By its' very definition a normal's opinion is worth nothing.

You're not the only Aussie around here; there seems to be quite a few.

I am new to this place, and to dollfies. Recently got my first girl (no real pics due to her outfit pending) but already have my second in construction, and a third on a pre-order of sorts (upcoming split). I've well and truly fallen for them. >.<

Beware what faces you.

Oh my goodness, THIS CRACKED ME UP. x'D I just recently saw a little comic about all the crazy and deadly critters Australia has; at the end of it, the little stick figure guy was looking at a clock and the caption said "What time is it?" And in the next panel an enormous spider popped out from behind it and attacked him and the caption said "Clock spider time." LOL. I love seeing or hearing anything about Australia stuff; it's just so ridiculous that it's funny. xD

Anyway, welcome to the world of DD! :'D

Sorry for late post just noticed this I was an auto mechanic/ machinists for 14 years and custom figure maker for 5 years. I know for our work background it could seem not as a good fit compared to dolls and retail/fashion (no offense meant towards the generalization of those who may work in these fields and doll collecting). But in the end we like what we like and it makes us feel good to be a part of something constructive. Plus in the end you have someone you can create and chat with, without feeling misunderstood (insert crazy hermit laugh). I'd rather be addicted to dolls then something unhealthy

Another guy bidding you welcome! Aoi modeling a red dress was the DD that caused me to start and now ...well...they seem to keep showing up here. I have the red dress, but I still need to get Aoi...I think she's not going to be happy with me for taking so long to bring her home. Anyway, I hope you connect with yours soon. Check some of the used market sites, and I think you'll find some affordable options.

There are... other people in Adelaide?

SHOCKING TRUTH.

If you wanna catch up some time, feel free to send me a message. I know of at least two other guys who own dolls, one has a girl from Love Live I think (not up to speed on it myself, I just heard the title) and the other has a DDS Mayu.

In other news as of last Thursday I'm no longer in the tyre industry... so finding my sweetheart is on the backburner and finding a job takes priority.

Hello from another Aussie DD noob (although not new to 1/6 - 1/3 scale dolls in fashion doll & ABJD form)! Hooray for further proof that "Australia does actually exist"

Got to love those Giant Golden Orb Weaver webs. I'm in a lovely leafy suburban Sydney street here behind an old historic home and the orb weavers seem to love the area around my front yard - alway at pefect height to walk in to, and always so very very stong, sticky strands of web and had to get rid of once that webbing gets stuck in your hair Luckily, though, thanks to growing up with a dad obsessed with them, I love spiders and at least orb-weavers are perfectly harmless - even if the females can be exceptionally large. Haven't yet ended up with one in my hair yet, though, only on my arm. ^^
