The first step...questions ^^"

Hello everyone,

I think I settled with the idea of making my first Dollfie Dream a custom SAO Yui, with a DDH-06 head.

But after deciding this, a few questions came up:

1. Which body to choose?

 

Especially if I would get a Asuna later, to go with her.

I would really like that she is more or less in scale with Asuna.

And even after searching for body comparision pictures,

I think I have only a limited understanding of how it may look in the end 'in real'.

Maybe someone could assist me with a few pictures of MDD/DDS/DDS in comparision to each other? (highwise)

I also would like to see how a DDH-06 head may look on those bodies, if its possible.

 

2. Are the faceup/makeup supplies I need for paint a DD head the same as for resin BJDs?

I have all those supplies at hand (had a few resin heads here for faceup practise ^^),

but heard that pastels, for example, would stain the vinyl...something else I have to think of, that works different?

(and if pastels stain the dolls...how the blushing is done? ^^"...lol, I feel like a total noob here...)

 

3. Eyes...?

Yes, eyes...I am a bit of a perfectionist in some points and would like to know if its possible to make the

eyes for DDs by myself? ^^"

(Saw something about a 'eye kit' on taobao, but couldnt figure out more or how it could work )

Hi there, what I can tell you is that most of the information you want is here on the forum in the various threads. When I first started with DD I spent hours and hours going through all the threads, not saying you should do that, but it sure helped About the pastels, having mostly customized BJD's myself I can say that you do need to be very careful with the pastels on Dolfie Dream vinyl, just a very small amount does it because it's not as easy to wipe off as it is on resin. Customizers are using pastels for blush just be very sparing.

The rest will take just more digging I guess.

Since Asuna (the Volks limited one, anyway) is a DDIII at 57cm, I would choose the MDD for Yui, at 43.5cm. The MDD is more childlike, if that's what you'd want. As a DDS, Yui would be 54.5cm, and her figure would be very similar to Asuna's.

Thanks alot for your input galatia. I really appreciate it.

I also took the time to look for obitsu bodies, since they seem to have a range in between,

which would be pretty perfect together with Asuna.^^

(I am only not so fond of their knees)

 

On the other hand, I found the most beautiful DDS Yui Hirasawa which looked exactly like the Yui from SAO (except she had white hair). Q_Q

If I can't get Asuna, I may go for a DDH-06 head on the DDS body or if I am lucky in finding a Yui Hirasawa head, I go for this one on the DDS.

She looked just too precious and the scale wouldnt bother then.

Personally, I barely notice the height difference between DD and DDS. My brain knows there is one, but it's so subtle that it's easy to forget. There's a good comparison here: viewtopic.php?f=21&t=3791 (scroll down a lot until you get to the DSC_6763 photo).

 

I have a DDH-06 on a DDS and it's a good fit, the head doesn't look too big or too small. I'm a huge fan of the DDS body, I've currently got four DDS girls and three DD girls (no MDD or DDdy). It's a little more petite, so I find I'm able to use a wider variety of clothes on them. I have a ton of pants that fit DDS but not DD.

I know scalewise the DDS wouldnt fit SAO Yui, but I am positive that the body features are not as 'adult' as the ones from the DD body and that it could work great in a 'standalone project'. ^^

So far I heard only good things about the DDS body and I am sure I get one in the future anyway.
