Merle's new face up

The weather was nice today and I really wanted to paint so I decided to repaint Merle on a whim.

I'm happier with the eyebrow and the over all lash shape, though I wish I hadn't gone so far with the outer lash shape. I need more practice with thin lines. I'm always so shaky

Your girl makes me giggle every time I see her, she's just so adorable!

I agree that it is a challenge/frustration getting your hands to hold still as you wield a paintbrush. I've done a few faceups of my own DD now and I've gotten better, but it still irritates me. It just takes practice and a lot more heads for me since the practice ones never want to be wiped off. That's what happened with my Naiomi who actually stole Yuriko's original head, and it happened again with my most recent girl Lorelai (an 02) who stole someone else's head.

If that isn't a concern, there were a couple things I learned over time that really helped immensely with the fine lines.

Thin whatever paint you are working with. Even if you use superfine brushes, if the paint is thick you can't get anything but fat paint lines. I didn't want to do this at first because I thought it would make it more difficult, but quite the opposite happened and painting the way I was intending became SO much easier.

Use watercolor pencils for the basic draft (drawn directly on the head, after sealing.) For me this really helped a ton in making sure my lines were where they were supposed to be so when I go to paint over them I can already see where the paint should be going. Although this doesn't directly affect the thickness of the lines, it does eliminate quite a lot of the "Oops, the brush went too far" moments.

Thanks for the tips I try to thin the paint a little, but I think I need to thin it a lot more. I'm just so impatient when I paint, I want her face done asap! I'm glad she makes you giggle, I never thought having an angry girl would be so fun!

I love seeing pics of angry girls, but I don't think I could handle one myself. The closest I have is Rainie, and she's just a loudmouth.
