battrastard Posted March 30, 2014 Anyone have ideas or hints on how to access Flickr's new format? I can't figure out how to upload pics here now.. (just as I was finally getting to Tanas new part of her story, too!! *bastidges!!!*) "Madness takes it's toll, Please have exact change!"
waha Posted March 30, 2014 They've hidden it pretty well, on the black photo sidebar, and they're using silly icons for everything.
battrastard Posted March 30, 2014 They've hidden it pretty well, on the black photo sidebar, and they're using silly icons for everything. But, what do I do? Is this a "copy/paste" feature? Do I click on the thumbtack, or the url? I be ignorant, I guess? "Madness takes it's toll, Please have exact change!"
Galvatim Posted March 30, 2014 Click the thumb tack to get the bbc code, then copy/paste that on to your post here. I'm getting pretty annoyed by Flickr's constant need to fix things that aren't broken, but they feel the need to go after the Facebook crowd, apparently. battrastard Posted March 30, 2014 Ah, ok, thx, guys, I'm a bit too fed up with it right now, but I'll try again tomorrow.. Appreciate the fast replies!! "Madness takes it's toll, Please have exact change!"
baldylox Posted March 30, 2014 Trust me, it isn't just you who is having trouble with this crappy new setup they've decided to force on us. They tried to do this last year and people were *SO* irate, Flickr pulled it and went back to the older version to escape the users wrath. But now it seems that just like other large websites who've gotten too big for their britches ( Ebay ) Flickr has decided that it doesn't care what it's users like or want and it will do whatever it feels is "good" for us. The new single photo page is beyond horrendous to use. The white on black setup is hard to see or read and all the totally different buttons and icons are unlabeled, making it a difficult task to figure things out easily. What especially draws my ire is the way they make you have to change the image size EVERY TIME you want to post a pic in a thread here. Gone are when you could set it ONCE and then it stay that way for every photo you link to. Now you have to select what type link to use and THEN what size photo to use. It's like the Flickr guys sat around and said " Let's figure a way to make this as stupid as possible and take 3 times as long to use! That'll be awesome!" If you can't tell, I'm extremely pissed off about the forced change and if there were a viable site to load pics to like Flickr, I'd delete all my stuff from Flickr and move there. Sadly, just like Ebay, there's nowhere else to go that won't charge you an arm and a leg. So staying at Flickr is my only choice for now. Morons.... Billy I gave up counting the girls I own, they keep multiplying and won't stop.
ArcticKitsune Posted March 30, 2014 I was trying to figure this out yesterday night when I wanted to post images on Dolls of Ottawa and hesitantly on here. I'm going to be honest and say that the new lay-out pisses me the right off when the old way worked perfectly fine. They should have kept it as is, and stuck in beta where actual feedback was given to them. Now the code I see to grab the images has been simplified and horrified at the same time. It's now putting me off from wanting to share any images anywhere.... -> You click the image -> The rectangle with the arrow in the top right corner -> Thumb tack -> Copy & paste it wherever you want. It's missing the title text under the image which I've gotten used to >_>. I guess the changed it so you can right-click and open in a new tab or window. It's also at a default 500x375. That size part I don't mind...It's the new habit and the screwing around YouTube style that's now setting me off. I'm going to stay with Flickr because it is the best sharing site I came across. That, and Tumblr. If I leave then I'm simply shooting myself in the foot with fun at stake. The proud master of a foxy (DD) Varakitsu, Renge, & Caster; Kon!~ Kon! battrastard Posted March 30, 2014 Ok, gave your suggestions a shot and had success!! Added a pic to my post on Photo Randoms. Thanks, everyone! "Madness takes it's toll, Please have exact change!"
Anna-neko Posted March 30, 2014 the new layout is like something Myspace would make in early 2000s, yet on my laptop it still shows the old layout! if you switch languages from English to anything else, the site's layout is still the previous one that can be navigated so much easier.... mangaemi Posted March 30, 2014 My only guess is they are trying to discourage people using Flickr as an image dump that they then post to other sites (I know, seems bat crazy to me!) The recent change is alot like instagram now. On there you can't really share photos easily at all - glob forbid link somewhere else or even download your own photos. I'm not a fan either of Flickr doing this html hide-n-seek BS... and esp for those that don't know how to use html to resize their images, just seems silly that they'd change the layout. But I guess since they're free, can't complain I guess... but I'm going to anyway... sleepywolf Posted March 30, 2014 Meh! I thought flickr had dropped that black layout. Sometime last year they asked if I wanted to try the new, black, beta layout but I said no thanks. I'm still using the old white layout. Sure hope they're not going to force the new layout on everyone. My only guess is they are trying to discourage people using Flickr as an image dump that they then post to other sites (I know, seems bat crazy to me!) That's probably not as crazy as it sounds. I could be wrong but I've allways been of the impression that flickr was marketed as an online photo album, not a picture sharing site like photobucket or imageshack. foo Posted March 31, 2014 I like it much better than before actually. You can see all the thumbnails of the sets/groups that the photo's part of without having to click the title of each one, you don't have to scroll down to tell if someone added tags to the image, and you can see all the exif data without having to go to another page. You can also see all the comments of a photo without having to scroll the photo off the page. There are definitely problems (that misleading X in the corner, why??) and the share popup could use some obvious improvement. The only thing that's better about the old one is that it was refined over time, otherwise I really didn't like it. I'd rather they just work on improving the problems with this one. /foo runs for cover

You can also see all the comments of a photo without having to scroll the photo off the page. Its interesting you point this out, because so far (judging from comments) most seem to prefer scrolling down to read comments. It was easier on the eyes with black text on white background, and slightly less cramped letters.... The camera icons are bigger than the comments! Thats just ridiculous Also notes are almost a tacked-on afterthought. Where one had to scroll down for tags before, but only hover-over image to read notes - now its "oh yeah.. lets play hide-and-seek with some random notes text and see if you can figure out which part of the image this now belongs to... maybe" Aside from that, a lot of issues seem to be ...well.. almost like a kid writing up code to look like other more successful sites, but doesn't actually understand whats behind it and fakes it. Like in certain parts its like Flickr wants to do a popup lightbox thing that Facebook has, but isn't quite sure how to cram this code there so it only looks like it.... but as all the forced reloading afterwards shows, it actually Isn't That At All
Poofiemus Posted March 31, 2014 Yeah, I can agree there are a couple things they *le gasp* actually got right. Namely: that side-by-side layout; it's pretty efficient, considering how often desktop users browse in landscape. But there are a lot of things that I think are a bit wrong. Number one is that white-on-black scheme. (I guess they wanted it to feel more "theatrical", but instead it's just annoying and hard to read.) Number two is all those icons without labels or decent tooltips. And number three is that corresponding set, group, and/or photostream galleries don't scroll anymore. That was one of the internal Flickr navigations that I used all the time. Now I have to go back to whatever photostream, search, group, or set I was using and fish through to find out where I left off, and on larger streams and sets that can take ages! In this household, sanity is considered a tresspasser.
Gamma Ray Posted April 1, 2014 Switch the language to Spanish or something. At least it gets rid of the new photo display. It doesn't bring back the classic version of the site, but it's better than the new version.
ArcticKitsune Posted April 16, 2014 Apparently Flickr changed up the embed code to be in between the old and new. Now when you embed you get the new style with a half-assed old one with just text on the right side of the image with a hidden link or two. P1250715 by SubTrance, on Flickr I'll still say that I don't like it. It's a slight improvements, just messy. Go back to the old way, or keep it to the new one. Now I have to get used to this style of embed. The proud master of a foxy (DD) Varakitsu, Renge, & Caster; Kon!~ Kon!
Bouncing_Tigger Posted May 25, 2014 This is the first time I've tried to use the new site...and I think it is way more confusing than the old one. Has anyone figured out how you get rid of that text garbage on the side? I tried deleting it, but then the whole picture disappeared!!
Suzuna Posted June 5, 2014 To embed an image? Just right click your image and say "get image url", take that, then paste it here and do all your coding here. I really hate the new flickr layout too. Yahoo has a history of mucking up their sites though, so I'm not surprised.
