Wintergrey Posted April 2, 2014 G'day. Another Australian joining the forums. Friends of mine have been collecting BJDs for almost a decade now. I knew right from the first time I saw one I would end up owning (at least) one. Every time I visited Japan and wandered through Volks I could feel the day growing closer. This time I could resist no longer. So I bought a DDI Rei Ayanami and named her Su-Nande. I'd post a a picture of her but apparently I'm too new to link to one. I rescued her from a Mandrake store in Osaka where she was naked, hairless and doing a Twin Peaks impersonation ("She's dead. Wraaapped in plaaaasstic") until I waved enough Japanese currency at the staff to let me free her. I bought her some winter clothes and a spare long purple wig for her modesty that night. Next morning the lady at Volks was extremely helpful in finding her the right size maid outfit. Couldn't find her a correctly sized assault rifle though. We left Japan in a hurry and I ended up having to help her get properly dressed in Kuala Lumpur airport. As I struggled with doing up her bra I looked up to see everyone in the entire airport waiting lounge staring at me. Eventually she was clothed and strangers started walking over to ask questions. Most of the questions were "What are you going to use her for?" Since "IDK but she sure is pretty" didn't really seem like a good answer I went with "I'm a photographer and I use her in force-perspective shots with real women for a surrealist effect". Having a small mountain of camera equipment with me gave me some credibility in this.
Guest Aurea Posted April 2, 2014 First of welcome to the Dollfie Brigade. If you was unaware your wallet is already empty and in the hands of your girl So I bought a DDI Rei Ayanami and named her Su-Nande. I seriously had a good laugh here, haven't thought of that show in ages. My response at any of those points would have been possibly: "My girlfriend gets upset with passengers so she asks to be placed in here to avoid any issues". (jk) Serious note would probably just irk me since most people tend to think the worst, especially if you are a male. I love collecting things and would have responded on that line tbh. Luckily anxiety keeps me away from people and these situations Enjoy your stay here!

Ayuuya Posted April 3, 2014 ^^ Welcome ~ Oh man, your adventure in Japan sounds amazing. It makes me want to go venture into a Mandarake to seek out dollfies in need of rescue~ It seems you handled the other passengers questions well. I probably have said something along the lines of "Because she's pretty....?" -- But only if I had the courage to take any doll out of their carrier long enough for other people to see :'D
Wintergrey Posted April 3, 2014 If you do decide to go on an adoption-holiday (which I highly recommend as Japan is amazing) search in Kyoto and Osaka. The second hand prices were more than double in Tokyo.
Ayuuya Posted April 4, 2014 Oh man, I've never been to Osaka before... Now I have yet another reason to go there * A*~ Thank you so much for the tip ♥
Wintergrey Posted April 4, 2014 How can you never have been to Osaka?!? That's the best city in Japan! Seriously, over several journeys I've toured most of it and there's nothing better than getting off a train, realising that you're back in Osaka, standing on the "correct" side of an escalator and feeling like you've made it home. Osaka mecha mecha sugoi.
