Best doll stand?

Recommended Posts

SweetWitchy

Asking for a friend who has a DDdy III doll (Haruka) and he wants a stand. We were looking at the Volks ones, but there were complaints of it being to flimsy. So we are also looking at the Cool Cat ones, but are there any other options? Maybe cheaper, or local? Or other companies? What's the best stand you guys use?

Thanks in advance~

The best stand is a bit of a vague concept because of different peoples preferences, even within volks there is selection for different needs.

The basic clear plastic Dollfie dream branded stand is a bit iffish, no personal experience, but it is a tad too modular for my tastes, thus apparently prone to breaking.

But within volks'es selection you still have plenty of good and working alternatives in the SD-size series, mainly either with a vooden or steel base, saddle or waist type. The saddle type is most likely preferred since its more discrete to display with.

Other manufactures include for instance Selens, which is a bit quirky to get a hold of (having to use a proxy last time I checked... three years ago), but provides bases in either clear acrylic, steel, and wood. with either a saddle, or thigh-grip hook. The Wooden one's come with an added bonus of a thread insert in the bottom to mount on a standard tripod attachment, if you are into forced perspective photography, just just dont want your girl standing on the ground.

A lighter version of the a tripod mountable can be found at dollfieworld (i think it was them) thats made out of clear acrylic, and is probably a lot easier to get than the selens stuff.

I will add from experience though, that the Dollfie World saddle stand is really nice, but it fits DDII/DDIII/DDS better than DDdy. A DDdy can use it, but she won't be quite as stable since her butt is bigger and so won't fit as far down into the saddle part.

For me, since that was the case, and I never got around to buying a different stand, I just generally don't use stands at all. But that's just me.

I've heard good things about the Coolcat stands, and they're both easy to get and less expensive. Perhaps someone else can chime in as to whether a DDdy booty fits their saddle stands, since I don't have one?

I prefer the CoolCat stands myself, but I haven't tried their DDy version. The main drawback they have is that you need to use the DDS stand for the shorter dolls, though some folks have said a hacksaw can fix that issue :3

I have mostly thigh stands, but saddle stands are great if you know your girl will wear mostly skirts.

My next project is making some cheap non-adjustable wooden stands, we'll see how that goes

Anyone know the difference between the type I and type II stands Coolcat has for DD? Is one better than the other?

Hi,

It looks like the type I stand has a split in the stand that goes down lower than the type ii stand I presume that means you could open the leg holder wider but am not sure.

I have a thigh holding stand type ii and a saddle stand from cool cat. They both have advantages and disadvantages. The thigh stand is good if your doll is wearing shorts or jeans but can interfere if she is wearing a skirt or dress particularly if it is tighter fitting. Also be careful if she is wearing thigh high dark stockings for long periods in this stand, even with a body stocking on due to the tightness of the stand it can cause staining, speaking from experience.

The saddle stand has better stability in my opinion and looks good with skirts as it is central. However it does not look good with shorts etc as the saddle will be on full display.

The clear plastic on the base on both of the stands is nice and weighty to prevent falls however it does scratch quite easily and the scratches can be seen easily in sunlight, again this is speaking from experience. Hope it helps a bit.

I have a stand question! >v

I'm looking for a stand that would be able to hold up a DDIII without her feet on the ground. Basically, I'd love to have something that could hold my girl up so I could take photos of her doing midair action shots, and I saw that Volks has a clear stand for DD that looks similar to the stands that figmas from GoodSmile come with. I thought maybe that would be a good bet, but after reading the first few posts on here (assuming that's the one you guys were referencing in the first couple of comments) it sounds like it would be too flimsy for that...? It'd really be nice to hear from someone who actually owns it whether or not it could get the job done. >v> But aside from that, is there a stand that anyone could recommend that would be able to hold up a DD for action shots?

I've seen pictures posted on 4chan showing someone using one of these clear volks stands having his MDD girl in a mid-air pose, so it should be possible.

I personally own one of these stands as well, and they feel reasonably sturdy and keep my one girl (MDD) in place. I like that it's adjustable so I can keep the stand clenched to any place I want, like the leg or waist or whatever. There's more options available for different poses.

I also own one of the older saddle type stands with a wooden base from volks for another girl (DD L). While it's sturdier and looks classier, it's more awkward and makes posing the girl a bit more limited.

Thanks a bunch! I feel much more confident about getting one now.
