Update: 23/06 Lilac - a doll project

Hi everyone!

 

Finally i found the courage to create this topic about the work in progress of the creation of my first doll. This is an overall concept about her, she won't be based on a existing anime/manga/movie character (even if in case i find a bit of money i would like to create a custom cosplay doll ) but mostly an original character which, i'm sure, will "build" her own personality alone going on with more pieces of her look arrive.

 

Some of the "sure points" about her are that she will be beautiful, violet eyes, grey or orange/red hair, and i would like her to be a kind of hybrid between the anime look usually DD have and a more realistical/SD look , i dunno if i will be up to the task but i'll try very hard to achieve what i have in mind for her

 

I will underline parts i have at home or at least bought (actually at home i have only the body that's why i don't have work in progress shots actually )

 

Lilac Yuki

 

Name: Her name is Lilac /Yuki, for now but i think will remain Lilac and maybe Yuki as second name.

Body: Dollfie Dream II, white-skin, M bust

Head: DDH-06 , white skin, eyeholes opened.

Eyes: still choosing, i have bought both, 22mm Volks animetic type J Violet (Sumire) AND 22mm violet/red realistical eyes from ebay (https://db.tt/5l2uUYZR ) , quite possibly the eyes will be paired with black eyelashes

Face up: will made by me (as soon as i put my hands on the head i'm waiting to arrive)

Hair: Grey long wig, curly or straight (if straight i want it to be very long) , my wig-of-choice (if i can enter in the group order , needing money at the moment) is this model by Leeke , Royal Gray http://www.leekeworld.com/En/Product/p_view.asp?it_code=503&B_catalog_num=21 , and a long Orange/red wig , i don't remember the brand

Outfit: Probably something between gothic lolita, elegant and oriental style, 100% handmade , because i like the idea of the customization of the doll and also i'm broke and i'll sew mostly every dress myself, if i can

Shoes: Same style as the Outfit, so probably gothic lolita boots or shoes or something elegant/retro

 

This will be the image references, is a partly copy/paste partly drawing , i made with photoshop some nights ago to see the overall look of the DDH-6 with eyelashes and animetic eyes and realistical ones (before buying realistical eyes) , i've used the blank DDH-6 WS image from Volks.jp shop , the Leeke wig image and the eyes adapting dimensions and position of each piece, drawing over all this collage a kind-of draft of the faceup i will create (hopefully it should be better the face up than the draft since i'm bad drawing digitally but i'm very comfortable with traditional medias, but i don't have time to draw a sketch) .

UPDATE 14/5/2014

 

Finally the DDH-06 head arrived and after some esitations (well, a lot) i started painting the head.

 

After a coat of MSC and sketching the idea with a watercolour pencil i started painting eyelashes and eyebrows , so so far this is the outcome of my first ever face-up , obviously is the first layer of paint :

 

 

 

 

UPDATE 22/5/2014

 

Got to finish the face-up of my litttle precious

 

After a coat of MSC to seal the previous layer i painted her lips and added a little of blush, coat of MSC and gloss and voilà, finally the girl it's finished (now we will wait for the second couple of eyes to come home )

From the look of how the photos ended the realistic ones look really deep and intriguing; the animetic look somewhat mysterious. Both look good I suppose in the end it is how you wish to finish her I know it's hard getting the eyes to show up on picture as they look in person, there is always some gremlin lighting that pops up. I can see her outfit having purple/lavender flowers with her name....maybe one on each shoe either on the strap or toe area. Maybe even one on the dress or a ribbon Just tossing ideas out there, maybe some of which you already have in mind. Good luck!

Yeah i'm still in doubt about the 2 types of eyes (however i've bought both so i'll see in person which i will like mostly)

Thank you for the suggestions about the look, i'm still thinking about outfits and sorts, at least i'm sure i will create for her a kimono or a chinese-kimono like robe or /and a Wa-lolita dress since probably Lilac will debut in a doll-convention on September along with Clara and Alba (Pharaviel's girls) , but something with lilac flower it's pretty intriguing , maybe i can project and create some ornament for her hair or kimono for the occasion

Since Pharaviel asked me i took some photos of Lilac (even if the face-up is not finished) with eyes and wig (the first combo of the 2 i have in mind, the only one i have at home now also) to see how she looks

I have to say that i'm a bit picky, so i didn't liked the idea to own (to see and appreciate others' dolls is another thing) a doll with a too manga /too simple/too standard face up , i like to be mine, and reflect somehow my tastes, so i figured out this look, and when the second set of eyes will arrive (they will be like in this image i created

 

i'll try to add fake eyelashes on the upper edge of the eyehole and see if i can get her to have a more hybrid manga-realistical look, we'll see how she will turn out

 

But apart from my ideas i can assure you i was scared to death when the time to start to paint arrived !

 

I never did a face up before and i was terrified to ruin her forever in some way (and , to add to the fear, i'm almost sure that a bird tried to steal Lilac head while she was outside leaving the first coat of MSC to dry when i was going to bring her inside i hear a loud sound and i found the head had fallen from when i placed her , some of the things i placed under her where on the floor 2 meters away and no one of my cats was outside neither there was wind so i bet on a bird (or a ghost XD ) , because in my house strange things happens more often than i would like

Finally realistical eyes arrived some days ago and last sunday i managed to put fake eyelashes on and try new eyes, now we're waiting for the royal gray wig from Leeke, hoping to try it soon

 

Unfortunately seems like i'll have to adjust a bit the face up since placing eyelashes ruined a little corner of one eye's face up (i'll wait tonight to do it since there's too much hot today ) .

 

 

 

Updating my project: Lilac version 2.0 finally assembled (now we'll need to dress her properly with plenty of outfits ) !! I'm so happy to see her finally finished, it's like i imagined her to be, she's gorgeous in her Royal Grey Leeke wig i ordered thanks to Caouldroness group order and with her realistic eyes It was a long wait , with also the little accident of the face up slightly damaged, but finally she is there , with all of her accessories at the right place , couldn't be more happy for now
