Volks USA Website Relaunch site preview May 1st 2014

Received an email from Volks USA today about a preview of the new site on May 1st. There will be a lottery for some one-off SD's, and you can register on the site. See pics from email below:

Preview, huh? Kind of weird for the web world, but okay. I'm going to hazard a guess we'll be seeing the preview mostly of the front end stuff, and that the one-off lottery and account registration will likely be the only look at functionality.

 

Shame the only proposed one-off is SD; I likes mah vinyl.

So does this mean we can enter the lottery for the Rin and Ranko DD's

I was surprised when I got the email. I'm thinking the site may be finished sooner than later. (Wont hold my breath ) The SD one-off's sound fun, but I only have eyes for SD Beldandy I'm hoping we can poke around the site, and maybe get a glimpse of the search feature.

They only mention the lottery for the SD one-offs, this appears to be a special event for the website preview. If they are like the other Idol Master DD's, they wont be available in the US

Oh.. That's right the Idolmaster girls aren't available in the us

At least it indicates that we'll see further limited lotteries through Volks USA, I was fearing that Volks international would be the only option for the foreseeable future.

Yeah. Not having the option of USA this Dolpa is going to suck for the resin fans, but for DD fans it's kind of serendipitous that the release USA won't cover is one they wouldn't get the license for anyway.

 

(I've been reading screenshots of bad anime fansubs all night, and now I can barely remember how proper grammar is supposed to work. Does what I said make sense to anyone but me? )

Oooh, nice! Wonder if that addition was enabled by them switching cart systems? Can't think of any other reason for them to wait this long before adding Paypal.

I suspect that it was. The old Yahoo store front they were using had some limitations, and I suspect credit card acceptance only via merchant account was one of them. It really is about time for that checkout software to get upgraded!

 

In other related news, the old Tenshi no Sumika LA member cards are going to become obsolete. The database is going away, as we knows.. VolksUSA also said they aren't planning to issue new member cards in the foreseeable future. What's on the ad picture is just a visual representation of the new online store account you'll need to create when the reopening happens.

OMG! I'm so happy (and a bit nervous) now that it will be even easier to throw my money at them! I've ordered through Int. a couple of times because I could use PayPal!

 

Sometimes it takes very little to make me happy.

VolksUSA also said they aren't planning to issue new member cards in the foreseeable future. What's on the ad picture is just a visual representation of the new online store account you'll need to create when the reopening happens.

 

I don't think that's really a big loss--the US cards never really did anything. Apparently the Japanese cards let you get cool rewards, but Stateside it's like Wolfcastle's goggles: they do nothing!

They worked great as a bookmark!

I'm just speculating here of course but it's possible that the only database going away is the customer/order one. The outfit database could still be there when they relaunch.

Yeah, nothing's been lost here versus the previous status quo, except I guess for new people who might have thought having a physical member-card was cool. The TnS LA member card looked spiffier than the Volks Japan cards do. Because the LA store was a doll-one only, they were able to put the Sumika logo and an SD on the card. But the Volks Japan cards cover purchases in all their various hobby lines, so there's no doll printed on them: it's just the VS logo in solid colors. Functional and easy to find amongst the stack of points cards in your typical Japanese wallet, but kinda boring-looking.

 

I was hoping that the new store would launch a new member card program complete with points for the USA branch. If you look at the announcement in that light, then it becomes a little bit sadder that member cards are being discontinued. I guess the only thing we lost was an opportunity to gain ^_^;;.

I'm definitely sad at the loss of the cards. I guess I liked having it pop up in my wallet from time to time. It would be nice then instead if they do some sort of frequent buyer points for the International site, but I won't get my hopes up.

Since all their customer/member data is gonna be wiped clean, that means we can still use all the same information from our original accounts, right? (username, password, etc.) I know some places wouldn't let you use the same thing twice, but this is kind of different since they're totally renewing the website. >w>

Yes, the old accounts are completely wiped so you can use the same info as before.

I think if they were to lotto off DDs, they would have announced it with the SDs.

There is to hoping! But the chances seem slim since they've mentioned they don't have to do anymore limited DD lottos via Volks USA.

Awww I was looking forward to the preview I had been checking periodically since about 10am California time but obviously it never updated. Hopefully "until further notice" doesn't turn out to be in July or something

I kind of wanted to check out the one off SD's too, just to see what was available. Oh well
