finnleo Posted January 29, 2015 Hei! Hyvää päivää! Mitä kuuluu? I just noticed you are in Finland! Been there several times. Mostly Turku and it's environs - including Muumimaailma. I was a the Tangomarkkinat in Seinajoki in 2004-6. Great country. Listed you as a friend here on the DD boards. Hope you don't mind. Straying a bit off topic, but.. mm, its not perfect, but I suppose there are worse places to live. Moomin-world I havent been to personally, and I've always considered the Tango-fair to be more of a mature people's venue, eventhough I do like to listen to the odd accordion rhymed tango every now and then. Neither place really suited for a 30-something to be at by himself.. heh. Your chair looks amazing love the quilting and the colour of the fabric Thank you, even though the final look all ended up more or less as a happy accident. Wow! You're so talented. The divan is so realistic and detailed and it looks like it's made for humans. Ihan simona suomalaisia täällä! patient maybe, talented is up for debate... and the swede's still outnumber us. jeko Posted February 26, 2015 That is one fine looking divan! Will you paint the legs or frame with some darker wood stain colors or is this the final form? Incredible work, nonetheless. : )
finnleo Posted February 27, 2015 Thank you very many. Considering its been more or less in its final shape for almost a year now, id say no. The thought of darkening the legs with stain and clear coat did cross my mind at some point, and its still possible, but now I've gotten used to it pretty much as is, and being pine, it does actually get a little darker as it ages. SisterKyoya Posted April 27, 2015 As I already previewed, the pillows for this would consist of foam, and synthetic fluffy material (not sure what its called, since a translator spits out plain cotton...) In case you were wondering, in the US the 'synthetic fluffy material' is called batting. There is cotton batting but generally batting is made out of a poly/plastic material. I'm pretty sure that it is just poly fiberfill stuffing rolled and slightly melted into sheets. I am totally gobsmacked at how lovely your project turned out! Plus it was super awesome seeing the whole process. In woodworking I've known about biscuit joints for a long time, and I've heard of peg joining but I didn't really know how it worked. Thank you very much for the simple explanation! How sturdy are the joints? ~Sister Kyoya Forum Blog: Badger Pocket Tales (Family story from the beginning) | { Old Family story reboot: Start Here! } Follow me on Twitter, Flickr & Instagram
finnleo Posted April 28, 2015 As far as sturdiness goes I have not yet been tempted to do a absolute structure failure test. But its been around for almost a year now, and been very prominent in photo sets without issues. Its quite uncannily light to pick up, but there are no wobbles, or bending so far, not even in the stump front leg which I wasn't terribly sure about.
