Voice Synthesizer: Vocaloid, UTAU, Etc

Personally, I LOVE listening to Gumi's synthesized voice, and I'm curious as to how many members here listen to Vocaloid, UTAU, and/or any other voice synthesizer out there? If so, please share your favorite songs by posting a link to a YouTube video of the song(s).

Oh, nice stuff. I do listen to a lot of vocaloid but mostly Hatsune Miku. I really do like the sound of Gumi though. Very nice. thanks for sharing.

No problem, James. Hatsune Miku was the first voice synthesizer that I listened to. Although I don't listen to her as much as I did in the past, I think her voice is very unique.

Gumi has a great voice! Her pronunciation seems to be better than Miku's.

Great question, but I don't have an answer for it. There are so many developers to choose from (eg. Crypton Future Media - Hatsune Miku, INTERNET Co. - Megpoid Gumi, Zero-G, AH-Software, PowerFX, etc). Should Volks favor any of these developer and choose one's work(s) over another? I highly doubt it. Well, if Volks ever decide to make a Vocaloid DD it would most likely be Hatsune Miku, the most successful one.

IIRC, VOCALOID is owned by Yamaha, so they'd choose which one became DDs. The Crypton-developed VOCALOIDS have a better chance than say, Gakupo or Gumi.

I agree with you. The mascots developed by Crypton Future Media will have a higher chance of becoming DD/MDD than other mascots from other developers. Hatasune Miku is very popular.

 

SONiKA looks like Gumi when she's drawn as a chibi and other chibi-like cartoons, but she looks totally different in other arts (e.g. mature, aggressive stance, portrayed as sexy and dangerous, portrayed in 3D arts, etc). Each person portrayed their vocaloids so differently from other people that it's hard not to notice the difference.

Gumi's voice has little to no white noise, and her tone is a little higher.

 

Although not exactly the same, both SONiKA and Gumi DO sound similar.

I can imagine Rin as a MDD (not as a DDS), but the MDD body doesn't pose as well as the DDS body. The DDS body is out of the question, because it doesn't match Rin's body dimension. If only there's a MDD2 body...

 

I listened to Green Green ~Midorimushi~ during my last post when I was trying to find the difference between Gumi's and SONiKA's voice. I noticed Gumi's voice right away when she sings on her own, and I have to admit that it was kind of hard trying to find SONiKA's voice when both Gumi and SONiKA sing together. After a few tries, I finally noticed SONiKA's voice in the duet. I just have to look for the slightly high white noises >.<

 

Green Green ~Midorimushi~ is quite pleasing to listen to. I think it's very erotic!

In Sorry to You - Gumi, Gumi does resemble Reimu. I LOVE Gumi's green round eyes. They are so lovely. Gumi in this video is just so adorable.

Ooooh, thanks for linking that one--very catchy! I like the After Effects 3D layers use in the video itself, too. It's become a common thing in Vocaloid videos in the past year, but I think that's largely because it's so effective.

 

 

I admit, I am a Vocaloid fan. . . .Well, alright, more like a Vocaloid addict. I just checked my iTunes; when I put in the word "vocaloid" in the search, it comes up with 20 hours/1.7 gigabytes of music. ^^; And that's not including the Macne girls (I don't have any Utauoid songs currently). I'd say it was a problem if I wasn't getting the songs for free via Nicosound!

 

Miku is probably my favorite Vocaloid, given how she pretty much dominates my Vocaloid listings. Rin and Luka are probably tied for second. Lately I've been getting into Nekomura Iroha too; I don't know what it is about her voice that appeals to me so much, or why it wasn't until recently that I started picking songs of hers up.

 

As for songs, according to the iTunes play count my favorites include:

 

Kagamine Rin: "炉心融解: Meltdown"

Hatsune Miku: "Moon"

 

And that's skipping some of the really well known songs like "Ievan Polkka", "Melody.exe", and "Love is War"! I could keep digging up Vocaloid songs all day, seriously. XD

 

I also have an odd fondness for the Macne Garageband/Reason plugin girls, Macne Nana and Macne Coco. Nana is my favorite of the two, despite (or maybe even because of) her kind of reedy voice. The Macnes aren't as smooth as the Vocaloids, probably because 1) they plug into another program rather than having their own specialized editor and 2) many people are using the Garageband versions instead of Reason, and the former apparently gives far less fine control over phrasing than the latter. But something about that robotic sound really has a charm to me at times. (It does still making finding good songs difficult however, as it can often be *too* clipped when in the hands of a noob.)

 

 

I also have this odd fondness for Nana's character design. I've toyed with the idea of making Agatha a Nana cosplay, but it's kind of low priority right now because I have yet to find a wig that would really fit the bill. (The way I see it I have some flexibility in what fabrics to use for the outfit, but the wig has to be pretty close to be convincing.)

I actually now have Project Diva 2nd on my PSP and it is SO MUCH FUN. Will totally give you carpal tunnel if you play too long, but lots of fun.

No problem! I like the *After Effects* 3D layers too. I think it's very well animated, and the colors used are so dynamic!

I have loved Hatsune Miku for a long time but I just discovered SeeU as well, and I really enjoy listening to her songs. There is something about SeeU's voice I can't get enough of!

I do like SeeU's voice itself, but looking at how sparse her Vocaloid Wiki entry is it's a little early for me personally to consider hunting much of her stuff down. It usually takes a few months for people to get used to any one voicebank's quirks and to start making really awesome stuff with it, so I'm going to wait a little longer personally to give them that time. But I'll admit I'm looking forward to when there's tons of her songs for me to choose from!
