Anyone collect DVD's? Anime or otherwise?

Recommended Posts

baldylox

I've always been an avid movie fan and back in my younger days I used to buy up VHS tapes like crazy. But after working in the audio/video industry for years and years, my tastes got more refined ( read that as I am an audio/video snob ) and I moved into DVD and BluRay.

I used to buy movies here and there when I was married but the collection really took off after I got divorced. For some reason I had money again! This is when I really got into anime DVD's. I got as many as I could and it was fun hunting down series and movies I wanted.

I started all this by just wanting some stuff to showcase my home audio/video system. It got out of hand for a bit tho. But now that I have my DD's to care for, the DVD collection has taken a serious blow to its growth rate. But I still add to it on occasion, mainly when I find things on sale.

So anyways, here is my collection as it stands now. First up, is all my live action movies.

And now some closeups:

HUGE pic for seeing titles:

HUGE pic. Please note the cases with handwritten labels. Those were water damaged and I had to reprint labels on my computer before they had all the fancy ones online like nowadays. They aren't bootlegs, just me being lazy.

My Matrix Collection:

Now that all the boring live action stuff is out of the way, lets head over to Anime Corner!

6094368849_155d9004d7_z.jpg

On the top shelves here are anime series. And yes, some of those are bootlegs. I was young and dumb at the time and thought "import" meant it was from Japan. Duh. So I am slowly weeding those out and replacing them with domestic prints. On the lower shelves are all my animated series like Disney stuff thats not anime.

HUGE pic:

Here is where I have all my boxsets and art boxes:

HUGE pic:

And here is the rest of the collection. Yes, a few more boots are in here but like I said, I am weeding those out slowly.

So that's where I stand as of now. Is there anyone else here who shares my sickness? LOL

All that anime! I wish I had that much.

My family collects movies and I've been slowly moving onto blurays because I got a player for my 16th.

We used to have all ours in three taaaaaall stacks about 3-4 feet high. They're currently in a dresser in our storage unit, alas.

I want that Code Geass set you have! I started watching CG when it was first translated.

Wow! That's quite the collection! I don't have nearly as many Hollywood films, actually, most of my live-action film collection is J-horror... But I think I have about as much anime. It's that darn Right Stuf bargain bin!

Baldy's house sure looks like a fun place to visit. Never lacking for something to watch, cute, outgoing girls, and a big sweet teddybear of a DD papa.

Thanks! I still have like 20 series up there that I have yet to watch. I need more time in a day! I'm also getting more anime on BR as it comes out. My first anime BR was "Sword of Stranger" and it was awesome. Such clarity and detail in that one.

So you like that season one boxset I have for Geass? That's the artbox that was released for season one. It only came with one disc I think and some random pamphlets. But its a cool box for sure.

That's quite the anime collection!!! I wish I could have the huge amount, let alone the time to watch it all.

Thanks! It's taken years to get so much but I love having it. It's fun to track it down and then watch it. But trust me, I *don't* have time to watch it all! I sure wish I did tho because my backlog of anime I haven't seen yet is pretty big.

Thanks! If you've got a similar anime collection to mine, you need to post pics! I'd love to see it! And I so totally agree with you about that darn RS Bargain Bin! Sooo many good deals to be had! Ahhh!!!

That is *SO NICE* of you to say Suzuna! I'm flattered..... and blushing. =3

Ooooh~ I wish they would release Utena on BluRay, it'd be amazing. My first BluRay was Advent Children Complete, I love all the detail they added.

Code Geass is a good example of my space saving trick: buying 2- and 4-disc cases and repacking series.

Did this with Kaleido Star, Ah My Goddess OVA/Movie/ TV season 1 & 2, etc. Some shows got stuffed into one 4-disc case, like both seasons of Ikki Tousen (with the Kanu covers on the front ).

I try to keep everything in alpabeticil order, which can be a real pain when a new disc shows up, and even moreso with BD/DVD combo packs... I kind of get the movie combo sets, but if I'm buying Sice and Wolf season 2 on Blu-ray, I don't need the DVD version too. Then again, I own 2 copies of F/SN and the Indy and Star Wars trilogies on DVD...

Nice stuff Galvatim! You have some great series in there and way more Blu-Rei's than I have. I like how you have them 2 rows deep to save room. And the display is setup well too with all the figures up there. If I ever get to move into a bigger place, I want to do something similar by having figures mixed in with the DVD's and some manga too.

Thanks for sharing!

Thanks! You've got some great stuff I'd love to have myself, though, Like Record of Lodoss War TV, and that Neo mini-bust. Mostly to befuddle visitors who will wonder where I got a mini-bust of myself...

Haha, I only have two BDs worthy of being called Blu-Reis though! (Eva 1.11 and 2.22) I've actually run out of space for anything new right now... I'll have to either down pack some series or sell some DVDs. I want to sell my BSG and Lost DVD seasons and get the Battlestar Galatica Blu-ray box... I used to rent a lot, till the Hollywood Video near work closed. I also used to do trade-ins on DVDs and games, but the one local trade-in chain here stopped buying anime singles a couple years ago.

And don't get me going on my manga collection... I have three of those Manga boxes, and that's nowhere near enough...

I love Advent Children Complete! Both of the Final Fantasy movies look awesome on BD!

Anyone else excited about the release of the Star Wars trilogy on Bluray next month? I know it's got even more "special additions" and the prequels are in there too, but it'll still be a fun set!

Agreed! Are you still single, Baldy?

Both you and Galvatim have great collections. Mine is dwarves by yours! I should take pics and post them here just for fun though.

Remember VHS tapes? Before TV was available to buy? I remember having ever single original Star Trek episode obsessively taped from TV, commercials and all, on something like 20 VHS tapes. All of that has been replaced by 3 remastered DVDs!

I remember taping Sailor Moon when I was a kid! We also destroyed our copy of Labyrinth from watching it too much.

O the joy of VHS!!! My first anime i owned was taped off the sci-fi network when they used to show one anime a week on sunday mornings at 2 am. and i believe that anime was one of the tenchi muyo movies. And my first 2 animes i bought on VHS was Wrath of the Ninja and Vampire Hunter D.

Yes I am! If any ladies are interested in coming down to Casa de Baldy, please let me know. We're very welcoming here.

PLEASE share pics! Who cares if your collection may not be as large? Any collections are welcome to be posted here. I wasn't wanting to just showoff mine or anything, I just wanted people to see how crazy my collection has become over the years and hope others had similar things to share. I enjoy seeing everyones collections, large or small. It's not quantity, its quality!

VHS? What's that? You do know I was around before VHS or Betamax right? LOL

I also used to tape entire series and try to keep them on tape. When Cartoon Network first started up Toonami in the afternoons, I was taping DBZ and Sailormoon along with other shows. I think I still have the whole series of Witch Hunter Robin on tape that I taped off cable years ago. I also think I have all of Scryed and half of the first Fullmetal Alchemist series somewhere too. Ha ha! So yeah, I recall setting my VCR for shows all the time and leaving the cable box "on" so I wouldn't miss an episode. But if the power blinked or I forgot to put in a fresh tape, MAN would I be pissed about it. Thank goodness for DVR's!

Man oh man! So many movies!

Most of ours are tucked away in a giant bin under the coffee table and our blurays are stacked out in the open (as well as our blu-ray anime). Our movie collection is dwarfed by all the boxes everywhere in our living room! >_< We have some re-organizing to do and then I can probably get a good shot off of our movie collection.

We also collect video games but we traded in a bunch for a Nintendo 3DS a while back so it shrank back a little bit (certainly not a problem with all the new releases we've been interested in!)

Very very impressive shots Billy and Tim! There's definitely no way to end up bored at your houses!

Ha ha! Thanks PF! If you are into any sort of pop culture at all, I seriously doubt you could be bored at Tim's place or mine. Heck, I know I'd love to visit ANY board members place. Being able to listen to stories of how things started or how a certain item was obtained is always fascinating to me. For me, the social aspects of the hobbies I enjoy are just as fun as the collection itself.

At the last doll meet I had at my house, we sat around and talked trash about anime for almost 2 hours. It was so much fun to hear who liked what and why and how they got into it. Stuff like that is way fun.

And my blu ray player would be here. :3 I miss watching my movies.

I don't know if you know this, but I'm kind of a big deal. I have many leather-bound books and my apartment smells of rich mahogany.

I like learning what gets people into their hobbies and I like comparing tastes with others - the differences are what make us special so it's fun to learn from someone else's point of view. ^_^

Love the collections so far.

I know the feeling, PlasticFantastic, all of my DVDs are stuck in packing boxes. One of these days I'm going to get it all up on shelves. I do have a mostly complete list of my anime collection on ANN. It's a combination of two people's collections and we've both been collecting for over 10 years now. It's gotten a bit out of hand, so we've had to slow down since we're running out of space, but old hobbies die hard.

I love looking at other people's collections, it's neat to see what people collect and how they display their collections. Can't wait to see more pictures!

Yes, you do need to see it! Especially if you like Yuki.

Yep, RS. It was $25. I have the RS membership discount though.

It's Blu-ray, but in a standard DVD case! Why do Bandai and Funimation do this? I get the whole DVD/BD combo packs with mainstream and kids' movies, but not with Haruhi, Spice & Wolf, etc. I'm not gonna watch a DVD when the (supposedly) superior Blu-ray is right there! I guess I can use the DVDs as loaner copies... I don't download the digital copies anymore either, since why would I want to watch a movie on my dinky iPod screen?

These are perfect though, if you have a job like mine where you sit at your desk all day... I always just plug the ipod in and run a movie (or a season of Supernatural) and listen to it as background noise while I work XD
