FFXIV Lalafell - Kyaru

Hello everyone!

I'm very new to the doll scene and am looking for advice for bringing my Taru/Lalafell Kyaru to life in doll form! I'm pretty settled on likely using a 50cm body even though it'd make her seem taller than what she is. But what I mainly need help with is the head!

 

I like the style of the DDH-04 (That smile!) and DDH-06 but I'm not sure if I'm even looking at the right stuff or if those would be big enough. Even a little oversize would be ok by me since my character is rather short so her head is relatively larger than her body. So I just don't know about sizing and then what kind of eyes (and size) and all those other tidbit details :< I'm not too certain on any of the acronyms or lingo either.

I was recommended by Kymera to come over to these forums for assistance :3 please let me know if I'm doing anything wrong -- again I'm super new to this but want my doll to be perfect.

 

Anyway on to reference pics! Oh wait I don't have enough privileges yet! That's her in my icon for now, and until I have enough posting rights, you can Google "Kyarutaru" and you'll find my various drawings and even some screenshots of her.

 

She's an auburn haired girl with green eyes and pointed ears. Usually wears hair in pigtails and her nose is a darker color than the rest of her pale skin. She would stand about 3'11" but in her race she is a full adult. Her job is that of a White Mage or healer, but casual clothes would be a skirt/one piece dress -- just something cute.

I haven't really looked too much into wigs just yet but I'm assuming the 8-9" range would be correct..

Saw a few on For My Doll in the Sweet Carrot color that may be cute. Anything from that carroty color to more of a realistic auburn works fine, so long as I can tentatively make it into fat pigtails and put little bows or ribbon on Or would that effect be easier to achieve with a short wig + extensions as the pigtails? Also a new realm I've never touched, so thoughts welcome :>

 

After extensively looking stuff up today and browsing the forums I'm feeling a little more confident that I'll be able to make this happen ^^.

You're definitely on the right track. I think 04 would be perfect for Kyaru. You could even mod her to have the elf ears, if you wanted with air dry apoxie clay (apoxie sculpt or milliput).

 

Auburn/carrot is a pretty common color. What you could look for is a wig with clip-on pig tails, since the tails are usually really thick and full looking. I know Leeke world has a clip-on style. You could look at Luts. I think they have some also.

Welp! What I ended up doing in the meantime was ordering a DDS Mayu ^_^ She's got the exact face and eyes I need and will help get me started without the complication of a newbie like me trying to assemble everything! I had originally considered getting a Tokyo Doll body for her for the seamless look, but this will be half the cost and less of a damage risk since I've been told those were rather fragile and unrepairable.

 

I ordered a few wigs from another site, and while they aren't exactly like Kyaru's, they'll be super cute on her until I can make exactly what I need.

 

No outfits just yet aside from default slip robe -- I may have to commission someone to make me a white mage robe! ^^ And I'll likely sculpt some pointed ears on her once I feel comfortable

 

Very excited! She will be my first doll and I'll be thrilled to see her once I have her looking more like my Kyaru-chan
