Volks New DD Service at Akiba DollPoint: (D'Coord)

Recommended Posts

SakuraSylph

So, in the early summer edition of Volks News that came out today, an interesting tidbit was teased in a small article near the back of the issue.

Volks will be offering a brand new DD-related service at their Akihabara location, starting on 7/20! There was a silhouette of Miku with a giant "?" superimposed on her face, along with the text teaser. And that's all we know for now. Let the speculation begin as to what that could be. My hope: FCS, as I keep telling Volks to do that on all their feedback surveys.

Background: For the last three years, the doll section of Volks Akihabara has been on the 3F of their Hobby Tengoku building. Starting in the middle of June, Volks is closing that whole doll floor down and moving it permanently over to the 8F of the New Radio Kaikan building. The move will take about a month, which means there will be no doll section in Akihabara from 6/16-7/19. The "home of DDs" will open in its new location on 8F as Volks DollPoint Akihabara on 7/20. It was not said why the move is taking place. To coincide with the new opening, there will be Akiba DD Fest on the 20th and 21st, and the store itself will begin offering a new DD service in-store.

EDIT: Now that Volks News 59 is out, this is no longer a tease. We know the service will be called D'Coord, and it will be finished DD coordinate models made using the Akiba DollPoint limited items: DDH-08, DDH-09, and the Dream Wigs.

Like express face-up?

Interesting! FCS for DDs does have pretty high demand, so that is a possibility. At very least I hope there's a DD Doctor--because haven't the doll doctors in the past been for the SDs primarily?

In this household, sanity is considered a tresspasser.

That's interesting. The Akiba DD Fest sounds like a good time for another Afterschool Akihabara DD to be released, like maybe the rumored tan Alna?

Yeah, the dolly doctors have always been SD-specific. Could be a DD doctor!

Or maybe satorgaeri for re-painting default faceups if a doll is damaged or previously wiped. That'd be another interesting service. Though, I think that'd have to be a more minor one, not the big announcement, since maybe few customers would need that refaceup service.

Ohh a DD full choice system could be fun! Pick your head, body type, skin colour, bust size & hands~<3 Not as many options as SD though... And it'd only be available in store like other FCS service ^^;

I'm secretly hoping for a rerelease of Akira! Or maybe a MDD Akihabara girl!

Living with: MDD H01, DDSB Yayoi Takatsuki, DDP Akira, DDS Nia Teppelin

ooo so this must be the reason why DDs are restricted from Tenshi-no-Sato in Kyoto now...

Pretty much. They're making Sato the SD-exclusive home store and they're making DollPoint the DD-exclusive home store.

Please let it be an FCS! It will be so much better to make custom dolls now. I doubt you can say to volks "Paint it like (insert character name here) please!" though. I think I remember reading somewhere they were adding an online FCS service (?) I really can't remember though. But if they are and if this announcent is FCS related, we'll see online options for both brands.

At home; DDH-07 'Medea',

Saving for; A body and Saber Lily ^_^

Waiting for:

DDs have been overdue for their own full choice system! And of course that means FCS-only headsculpts. I certainly hope that is what the news is anyway.

pretty much doubtful and just thinking aloud, but it would be cool if the dolls that won the voting rounds have their blank heads put in the fcs

Rise - Rise // Rise #2 - Rise // Ritsuko - 2B // Momo - M.O.M.O. // Nayuki -Mikuru // Romi - 09 // Makoto - Sailor Jupiter // Mikasa - DD07 (WIP)
Waiting on: DDH-25 for custom Akechi 🥰

Ah, you're probably thinking of VolksUSA who is advertising an online FCS for US Super Dollfie customers. Volks Japan hasn't said anything about online FCS. But then again an online version is less needed here, since there are actual showrooms you can visit all over the country. So it might be a US-only thing, now that they got rid of TnS LA's physical location.

^Extremely cool ... but, I agree, a very unlikely possibility.

Okay, so now that VN59 is out, we know what the new service is that Volks was teasing!

It is called "D'Coord". (this is a pun on the French phrase "d'accord" {agree} and the Volks phrase "coordinate model")

This service is DD Coordinate Model dolls for sale that feature the new Akiba DollPoint limited items - DDH-08, DDH-09, the hime-cut Dream Wig, and the wave Dream Wig - as part of the design.

If you aren't familiar with Coordinate Models, it's something that Volks has offered for their Super Dollfies for a while, but never for DDs until now. With a Coordinate Model, Volks creates a fully-finished complete doll out of a head (painted of course), and coordinated wig, outfit, and shoes (hence the name). You can only buy these in person at stores. So, if you've not been to a Volks store, it's understandable that you may never have heard of them before!

We still don't know as of today how the dolls will be priced, what the outfits will be specifically, or how many will be available. More info might come out on the Dreamy DD Blog as DollPoint gets closer to opening.

Do you get to choose body type and bust size too? That'd be really cool. I actually like the wigs they're offering with this (I'm not usually much for Volks wigs)

You might insofar as there could, for example, be a DDS finished set and a DD3 finished set, and you can pick which doll you want out of the two. The info so far suggests that there will be a variety of finished dolls you can pick from, and if you want to customize later then that's up to you. If it's anything like the SD side, they'll be making a variety of coordinate models using all kinds of different outfits, new ones all the time.

I'm looking forward to seeing more info come out about the service to see if comparing it to the SD one is accurate or not.

I wonder if the staff in Akiba dollpoint can talk some basic english? I hope that they can cause I'm also likely going there this year and see those lovely DD coordination but afraid there will be a mistake since I can't talk Japanese beside arigatou lol

They should be able to. Akiba is a huge tourist area. Remember to show your passport as much as possible to get the tax exemption!

I only went to Volks in Osaka, so I can't specifically comment on Akiba, but you should at least be able to make a list of the item codes you want in your set (DDH-09, DDIII, M-bust for example) and point at eyes/wigs. Most people have at least rudimentary English and can figure it out. Most places (restaurants and stores that required more communication) had English-translated menus or cards where you could show them what you wanted.
