asianed Posted June 18, 2014 I was lucky enough recently to get a Chii made by Volks. Based on her condition, it looks like she spent most of the last 11 years in the box! All of her outfit and accessories still looked like they were brand new. Even her hair spools were still sealed in heat sealed packaging! Based on my research, only 200 were made and she was only sold at DollPa 9 (May 2003) and not at the after event. If her head looks familiar, that's because the same mold was used later on for the DDH-01 head! It's almost as if this is where it all began! Chii's first photoshoot has a little assistance from Belldandy, the other Volks resin in my family. baldylox Posted June 18, 2014 Yay!!! So nice to see pics of Chii! After seeing her in person, I can understand why you had her as a grail doll.... she's just so amazingly cute! I really didn't know about her being the model for the DD 01 head tho. But once I saw her up close, it's very clear the two are related. All I could see while looking at Chii was Manami. LOL I'll have to go check out the post to see what Chii and Bell were talking about. Maybe Bell needed more storage for her laptop and needed to hook up to Chii for disc space? Congrats again on getting her, now she'll be spoiled rotten instead of being cooped up in her box forever. Billy I gave up counting the girls I own, they keep multiplying and won't stop. waha Posted June 19, 2014 Weren't the first DDs to be released Mirai and Candy?
foo Posted June 19, 2014 Weren't the first DDs to be released Mirai and Candy? Perhaps, but I'm guessing Chii gave them the idea to make a line for anime style dolls. It is really cool to see the ancestor of DDH01 like, that, and that it's Chii. I think I read about it before somewhere, but thanks for sharing the photo story! It's great that she came into the hands of a collector like you ^^ (also thanks to the first owner for preserving her properly)
Suzuna Posted June 19, 2014 I remember reading on DoA that she's the model for DDh01 as well, and members suggesting for people who wanted Chii but couldn't get her to get a DDh01! But that's amazing, she looks like she's in mint condition. I hope to see lots of pictures of her!
asianed Posted June 19, 2014 Weren't the first DDs to be released Mirai and Candy? They were, however Chii predates both (though only by a few months). The Chii head mold later went on to be used for the DDH-01 head, which Volks still makes today! Looking at it another way, Chii was one of the earliest Anime-style dolls that Volks made. This may have paved the way for future licensing partnerships and many of the character dolls we have today!

Not only is her faceup original, but she has no signs of yellowing in the resin, all of her stringing is still tight, and all of her accessories were still sealed! If she wasn't new, then whoever did her repackage did an amazing job!
miamurray Posted July 1, 2014 OMG! You have both of my grail dolls! They're beautiful! I can't believe you found a Chii in that great of shape!! I'm attempting to custom two DDs as Chii and Belldandy. Hopefully I can pull it off. The Chii is coming along, but Bell is going to take some serious creativity. Anyhoo, I love your girls!!!! Hello Dollies! XD
Ravendruid Posted July 2, 2014 She looks fantastic. So, the prototype of my favorite head sculpt happens to be one of my all time favorite anime characters, who'd have guessed. I've wanted Belldandy since she was released, but had no idea about this Chii. I'm pretty sure that if I ever have the chance to get them, these are the only two resins I will ever get, myself. Thank you for showing off these pics. Daddy of: Yuriko, Sohi, Miku and SK's many kids
deadlegato Posted July 3, 2014 You are one lucky dog to have found her at all, let alone in that fabulous of condition. I know Volks started out making resin kits and then moved onto BJDs, I'm just not sure if Chii was what convinced them dolls were a good future market or not. It's a reasonable theory.
